Have you heard of inner painting (内画)? It’s a form of traditional art in China. Artists use special, fine brushes that can go into very small containers (容器) to create their paintings. With a history of over 200 years, there are different schools of inner painting. Beijing, Hebei, Shandong and Guangdong schools are four of them.
Li Shaoyue, from Zibo, Shandong Province, is the fifth-generation inheritor (继承人) of the Shandong school. She learned the skills from her father, Li Huitong, a master of traditional Chinese arts and crafts (手艺).
“I have seen my father do this since I was a child. He always works hard and tries to improve his skills,” Li said. She wanted to be an inner painter like her father because she knew fewer young people were willing to learn inner painting. “If it were to be discontinued here, it would be a great pity,” she added.
Li has worked as an inner painter for nine years. Over the years, she has finished a lot of works of art for sale and show. She thinks inner painting requires inheritance and development. Old artists usually choose themes of historical scenes and stories. However, Li would like to use something new and modern as the subject of her artwork. “Now, I’m sharing inner painting skills on social media platforms (平台) to make more people know about inner painting. I hope more young people will practice inner painting,” said Li.

A. Inner painting skills are easy to learn.

How many fathers usually come to the parent-teacher meetings of your class? Have you ever thought of a “dads only” parent-teacher meeting?
On August 24, a school in Hangzhou had a special meeting to which only dads were invited. The meeting hoped to “encourage dads to actively take part in family education”, reported Guangming Daily.
In the last few years, people have been talking about the fact that fathers are missing from family education. Most moms in China help their kids with homework, according to All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) and National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Why do dads miss the school meetings and even family education? Some fathers say that they are too busy with work to take time off or they think the moms are better at communicating with teachers. What genetics (基因) did your parents pass on to you? Was it their eye color or their height? It could be their characters or their musical talent. Or maybe it was their anxiety (焦虑) about math.
A US study found that genetics can decide children’s math skills and anxiety over math. It studied over 500 sets of twins and found that genetics has something to do with math anxiety. Over 10 years, the twins did math tests and filled out questions about their math anxiety. They found that fraternal twins (异卵双胞胎) had different skills and anxiety over math, Identical twins (同卵双胞胎) were similar. This shows genes can influence people’s anxiety over math.
Math anxiety has a stronger influence on a child’s abilities. It could bring the same feeling as being hurt in the body.
This anxiety means that students will not want to practice math as much as they could. Then, they become even worse at math. It only adds to their anxiety about it.
But if you are bad at math, don’t just look at your parents. Math anxiety is still rare (少见)— genetic reasons explained about 40 percent. The environment, including school and family, is also a reason. So in life, it’s important to know how to deal with anxiety.
50. Which question did the study try to answer?
A. Why is math a difficult subject?
B. What makes twins different?
C. Can genetics decide on children’s math anxiety?
D. Can parents pass on their character to their children?
51. What can we learn according to the article?
A. Genetics is the main reason for math anxiety.
B. Math anxiety can help students face problems.
C. Children with better abilities won’t be better at math.
D. Math anxiety makes students feel worse with math.
52. What might the next paragraph of the passage talk about?

Mr. Green had a son with bad habits. One day, he took his son to a wise old man to ask for help.
The wise man took the boy for a walk through garden. Stopping suddenly he asked the boy to pull out a small plant growing there. The boy held the plant between his thumb (拇指) and forefinger and pulled it out. The old man then asked him to pull out a little bigger plant. The boy pulled with his hand and the plant came out, roots and all.
“Now take this one out,” said the old man, pointing to an apple tree. The boy held the tree and tried to pull it out. But it would not move. “It’s impossible to pull it out,” said the boy.
“So it is with bad habits,” said the wise man. “When they are young, it is easy to pull them out. But when they grow bigger, they cannot be pulled out easily.”

39. What do we know about inner painting?
A. It has at least four schools. B. It has a history of 2,000 years.
C. It requires artists to draw in any container. D. It is enjoyed by more and more young people.
40. What does Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. What Li’s family is like. B. What Li did to develop inner painting.
C. Why Li wanted to be an inner painter. D. How Li developed an interest in painting.
41. Which of the following might Li Shaoyue agree with?
A. Inner painting skills are easy to learn.
B. Social media platforms are helpful in selling paintings.
C. Historical scenes and stories are necessary to inner painting.
D. Something new and modern should be added to inner painting.
42. Which can be the best title for the passage?
A. The future of inner painting

Also, some hold a traditional point that dads just make the money while going to school meetings feels like more of a mom’s job.
However, dads and moms both play important parts in their children’s education. When dads spend more time with their kids, the kids can do better in language and math, feel more confident and even make more friends. “Dads are also important in shaping young kids’ personalities (性格),” said Luo Xuepeng from Guangdong, a father of a 9-year-old boy. “A rational (理性的) and strong dad can help kids have good habits and become more lively,” he added.
