B A university lecturer in Linyi, Shandong province, has shone a light on the difficulties of food delivery drivers by taking on the role himself for a month and sharing his trials and sufferings online. Last December, Xing Bin, a lecturer at the College of Literature at Linyi University, was so eager to know about what life and work must be like for a delivery driver, so he decided to sign up and be one from December to January this year. The gig economy (临时工), for better or worse, has exploded in China in recent years, and though many members of the workforce choose to work in the gig economy because of its flexibility (灵活性), others prefer full-time employment. During the month, Xing worked more than 10 hours and took 30,000 steps a day. He lost 6 kilograms and earned a total of 7,000 yuan. On average, he earned 10 yuan each hour, and 20 yuan at most. “ I was delivering food from early morning till late at night for around 13 hours a day. When I had classes, I delivered food for two hours early in the morning, and after dinner I continued delivering until one or two in the morning,” Xing said. “Before, if I got a call from a delivery worker, I might delay answering it. But now I will always answer it immediately because I know they might be riding an electric bike while making the call, which is very dangerous,” said Xing, adding that he now understands the difficulties of delivery workers better and realizes how hard they work to make a living. “During that month, I tasted the bitterness and the happiness of this job with my heart. I delivered over 2,000 orders, and three of the people who ordered impressed me a lot.” he said. 24. Why did Xing try the job of a delivery driver? A. Out of curiosity. B. Owing to its high pay. C. Because of its flexibility. D. For its low career requirements. 25. What is the purpose of using numbers in paragraph 3? A. To introduce Xing’s experiences. B. To praise delivery workers’ spirits. C. To describe delivery workers’ hardships. D. To show delivery workers’ achievements. 26. What may the passage talk about next? A. Requirements for the job. B. Memories of Xing’s experiences. C. Xing’s calling for more respect. D. The online reaction to his posts. 27. What can we learn from Xing’s story? A. No pains, no gains. B. Save for a rainy day. C. Easier said than done. D. Knowledge starts with practice. C A century ago, kids were transported to school by all kinds of random vehicles. Because there were no national standards, it was up to states or individual school districts to hire buses, trucks and even horse-drawn wagons to convey kids to and from school. Frank Cyr didn’t like this system. Back in the 1930s, Cyr was a professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, and an advocate for rural education. Cyr traveled the country conducting a study of school transportation. “In many cases, standards have been set up by more or less hit-and-miss methods,” reported Cyr in a New York Times article. He decided that something needed to be done to keep America’s schoolkids safe. So in 1939, Cyr organized a conference in New York City dedicated to improving and standardizing the American school bus. He invited educators, transportation officials from 48 states and bus manufacturers to design a newer, safer school bus. At the meeting, Cyr hung up 50 paint samples on the walls of the conference room and formed a special committee to pick a winner. They chose the symbolic yellow-orange color that was originally known as “National School Bus Chrome”. Cyr wasn’t a scientist or a safety expert, but he instinctively made the connection between bright colors, visibility and vehicle safety. “Based upon the standards of 1939, yellow was a very intelligent choice,” says Dr. Stephen Solomon, a retired optometrist (验光师) and founder of Visibility in Motion, which does consulting for emergency services providers. “The colors that are most easily seen by the human eye are the yellows — the yellow-green to yellow to greenish-yellow,” says Solomon. “That’s at the peak of the visibility range.” Solomon explains that color vision is determined by photoreceptor cells in the retina (视网膜) called cones (视锥细胞). There are three types of cones, each tuned to detect different wavelengths of light: red, green and blue. Yellow light stimulates both the red and green cones at the same time, which is why the eye is most sensitive to colors in the yellow range. 28. What does the underlined word “hit-and-miss” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Random. B. Similar. C. Effective. D. Special. 29. What do we learn about the 1939 meeting? A. Many schoolkids were invited. B. A prize was chosen to award a winner. C. Cyr was appointed as a transportation official. D. The color yellow was selected for school buses. 30. Why is yellow a distinct color for the eye? A. It has different wavelengths. B. It determines photoreceptor cells. C. It affects two cones at the same time. D. It covers the most visibility range. 31. What can be a suitable title of this text? A. Why Are School Buses Yellow? B. Cyr: Father of School Buses C. 1939: a Year of School Bus Standards D. What Vehicles Are Safe for Kids? D The Mona Lisa is the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting of a woman with a mysterious smile. This week, the woman parted her lips to whisper an ancient secret. Scientists using X-rays to examine the chemical structure of a small part of the painting discovered a technique Leonardo used in the work. An oil paint used for it was a special, new chemical mixture, which suggests that the Italian artist was in an experimental mood when he worked on the painting in the 16th century. “He loved to experiment, and each of his paintings is completely different technically,” said Victor Gonzalez, a chemist who has studied the chemical element of several works by Leonardo and other artists. The researchers found a rare lead compound (铅化合物) — plumbonacrite, in Leonardo’s first layer of paint. The discovery proved that da Vinci most likely used lead oxide to thicken and help dry his paint. The paint in the study is about the thickness of a human hair, lying in the top right area of the painting. The scientists looked into its atomic (原子的) structure using X-rays, moving particles at the speed of light, permitting researchers to look deeper into the paint structure. “Plumbonacrite is really a fingerprint of his recipe, as it’s the first time we can chemically confirm it,” Gonzalez said. Rembrandt, the Dutch master, may have employed a similar blend in his 17th-century paintings. Gonzalez and fellow researchers have also detected plumbonacrite in his art. It’s believed that Leonardo used lead oxide powder, which has an orange color, to thicken his oil paint and speed up drying. “What you will get is an oil that has a very nice golden color,” Gonzalez said. “It flows more like honey.” But the Mona Lisa — said by the Louvre to be a portrait (肖像) of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine silk businessman — There’s more to her gaze than meets the eye. “What we are saying is just a little brick in the knowledge,” Gonzalez said. 32. What technique did da Vinci potentially use in the Mona Lisa? A. The employment of tailored X-rays. B. The application of a rare lead compound. C. A special mixture of oil paints. D. The universal use of atomic structures. 33. What does the use of plumbonacrite suggest about Leonardo’s painting approach? A. Willingness to experiment. B. Giving priority to conventions. C. Technically identical output. D. Concentration on paint drying. 34. What is Gonzalez’s attitude towards the use of lead oxide powder? A. Dismissive. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Favorable. 35. What can we infer about the Mona Lisa from the last paragraph? A. It still holds secrets yet to be uncovered. B. It echoes the realities of the worldly life. C. It’s a perfect combination of old and new. D. It serves as the key to understanding Leonardo. It is an efficient way for you to make the most of mind mapping to create projects, plans and ideas. ____36____ Here are the four steps of mind mapping and how you can apply them in your life. ____37____ If we take the example of presenting something to an audience, ask yourself, “What exactly do I want to tell my audience?” and “What do I want them to leave knowing?” The clearer your question is, the better answers you will get. C. He lost 6 kilograms and earned a total of 7,000 yuan. On average, he earned 10 yuan each hour, and 20 yuan at most. ‘I was delivering food from early morning till late at night for around 13 hours a day. When I had classes, I delivered food for two hours early in the morning, and after dinner I continued delivering until one or two in the morning,’ Xing said.(在这个月里,邢一天工作10多个小时,走3万步。 根据最后一段中邢斌的话“During that month, I tasted the bitterness and the happiness of this job with my heart. A 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第一段“A century ago, kids were transported to school by all kinds of random vehicles. Because there were no national standards, it was up to states or individual school districts to hire buses, trucks and even horse-drawn wagons to convey kids to and from school.(一个世纪以前,孩子们被各种各样的交通工具送到学校。因为没有全国性的标准,所以要由各州或各个学区自己租用公共汽车、卡车,甚至马车来接送孩子上下学)”以及第二段“He decided that something needed to be done to keep America’s schoolkids safe.(他决定需要采取一些措施来保证美国学生的安全)”可知,在国家统一的校车标准出来前,各地的校车标准都是不一样的,有的地方用这种方法比较好,有的地方用那种方法不太合适,因此hit-and-miss意为“不确定的、时好时坏的”,和A项意思相近。故选A项。 根据第三段“So in 1939, Cyr organized a conference in New York City dedicated to improving and standardizing the American school bus. He invited educators, transportation officials from 48 states and bus manufacturers to design a newer, safer school bus. At the meeting, Cyr hung up 50 paint samples on the walls of the conference room and formed a special committee to pick a winner. They chose the symbolic yellow-orange color that was originally known as “National School Bus Chrome”.(因此,在1939年,Cyr在纽约市组织了一次会议,致力于改善和标准化美国校车。他邀请了48个州的教育工作者、交通官员和校车制造商来设计一种更新、更安全的校车。在会议上,Cyr在会议室的墙上挂了50个油漆样品,并成立了一个特别委员会来挑选获胜者。他们选择了具有象征意义的黄橙色,最初被称为“国家校车铬”。)”可知,在1939年的会议上,黄色被选作校车的统一颜色。故选D项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“Solomon explains that color vision is determined by photoreceptor cells in the retina (视网膜) called cones (视锥细胞). There are three types of cones, each tuned to detect different wavelengths of light: red, green and blue. Yellow light stimulates both the red and green cones at the same time, which is why the eye is most sensitive to colors in the yellow range.(所罗门解释说,色觉是由视网膜上被称为视锥细胞的感光细胞决定的。有三种视锥细胞,每一种都能探测到不同波长的光:红色、绿色和蓝色。黄光同时刺激红色和绿色视锥细胞,这就是为什么眼睛对黄色范围内的颜色最敏感)”可知,黄色光能同时刺激红色和绿色视锥细胞,这就是眼睛对黄色光最为敏感的原因。故选C项。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“A century ago, kids were transported to school by all kinds of random vehicles. Because there were no national standards, it was up to states or individual school districts to hire buses, trucks and even horse-drawn wagons to convey kids to and from school.(一个世纪以前,孩子们被各种各样的交通工具送到学校。因为没有全国性的标准,所以要由各州或各个学区自己租用公共汽车、卡车,甚至马车来接送孩子上下学)”以及纵观全文可知,本文主要介绍校车颜色选择黄色的主要原因,所以A项“Why Are School Buses Yellow?(为什么校车是黄色的?)”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。 D The Mona Lisa is the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting of a woman with a mysterious smile. B 33. A 34. D 35. 根据原文第二段内容“An oil paint used for it was a special, new chemical mixture, which suggests that the Italian artist was in an experimental mood when he worked on the painting in the 16th century.(.用于这幅画的颜料是一种特殊的新型化学混合物,这表明这位意大利艺术家在 16 世纪创作这幅画时有着探索创新的意愿。)”和第三段的“  The researchers found a rare lead compound ( 铅化合物 ) — plumbonacrite, in Leonardo’s first layer of paint. The discovery proved that da Vinci most likely used lead oxide to thicken and help dry his paint.(研究人员在列奥纳多的第一层颜料中发现了一种罕见的铅化合物 —— 铅白铅矿(plumbonacrite)。 根据文章第三段“He loved to experiment, and each of his paintings is completely different technically”(他喜欢实验,他的每一幅画在技术上都完全不同)可知,达・芬奇喜欢实验,故选A。 根据文章第五段““What you will get is an oil that has a very nice golden color,” Gonzalez said. “It flows more like honey.””(“你会得到一种非常漂亮的金色的油,”Gonzalez说,“它流动起来更像蜂蜜。”) 根据文章最后一段““What we are saying is just a little brick in the knowledge,” Gonzalez said.”(Gonzalez说:“我们所说的只是知识中的一小块。”) 故选A。 It is an efficient way for you to make the most of mind mapping to create projects, plans and ideas. Once you know your question, write that down in the middle of the page. Once you have your question written down, let yourself go. Don’t try and edit yourself. No matter how crazy, wild, or stupid something may seem at first, get it down onto your mind map. ____38____ Editing yourself at an early stage will not produce your best ideas. After your initial brainstorm, giving yourself a few days will produce more ideas and expand others. A few days later, come back to your mind map and give yourself another hour or two with it. You will find you have a lot more ideas to add. Meanwhile, you may also see ideas that don’t work. ____39____ After this session, you will have a lot of ideas, answers, and steps. The next stage is where you make small changes about these ideas and start to structure the next step. You now need to decide in what order you will move forward. Once you have all your ideas and points numbered, you can then move those to your to do list and place them in the right order. You may find that as you begin working on your project, you may change your order round.____40____ A. You can remove ideas later. B. It doesn’t encourage you to go deeper with your ideas. C. You can leave them just in case they bring more ideas later. D. Your brain is likely to give you unrealistic or unclear answers. E. Before you start, think about what kind of mind map you want. F. But you will at least have a place to start by having an initial sequence. G. It gives you a visual means to brainstorm your ideas and the foundations of a structure. 36. G 37. E 38. A 39. C 40. Her transition (转变) to senior high school was originally met with great enthusiasm (热情). She would come home every day, sharing with us tales of her new experiences, her friends and the fun news of high school life. But as weeks went by, she became quieter and something seemed to be troubling her deeply. My husband and I realized something was wrong. but we decided to wait until she was ready to open up. One evening, I prepared her favorite jiaozi for supper, hoping it would cheer her up. However, that night, it was different. She seldom touched it, lost in thought. After the meal. we gathered in the living room. a space where our family had shared many heart-to-hearts. The air was heavy with unspoken words. My husband and I exchanged a quick look before I decided to break the silence. I gently brought up the subject, “Lin, you seemed worried lately. Is everything okay at school? You know you can always open up to me and your dad.” Lin looked up. her eyes reflecting a mix of frustration (沮丧) and hopelessness. “Mom, I’m really struggling with physics. No matter how hard I try. I couldn’t understand it a little bit. I feel so lost.” she admitted, with her voice trembling slightly. My heart sank as I saw the sadness in her eyes. Physics had always been a challenging subject for her, but this time it seemed to go beyond the usual difficulties. Then I reached out, holding her hand and trying to offer comfort and said, “High school is a big step. and it’s okay to take some time to adjust (调整). The most important thing is that you’ve been honest about how you’re feeling.” My husband cut in, “We can work through this together. step by step. Remember, we are always here for you.” Then we offered her some practical advice. Over the next few weeks. Lin followed the ways we discussed. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally came Lin’s final-term physics exam. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Over the next few weeks, Lin followed the ways we discussed. At school, she sought additional help from her physics teacher, who provided her with additional guidance. Lin also joined a study group with her classmates, where they solved difficult problems together and shared some study methods about physics. At home, my husband and I kept encouraging her and acknowledged every small victory in her understanding of physics. We could see her gradually but surely overcome her fear of physics. Finally came Lin’s final-term physics exam. The night before, she was understandably nervous, but there was a newfound confidence in her eyes. The day after the exam, Lin came home with a big smile. While she didn’t get the top score, she did much better than we expected. This achievement was more than just about the grade; it was about the journey she undertook to overcome her challenges. This small success brought not just relief but also a stronger bond in our family, united by our collective effort and belief in each other. 词汇激活 行为类 ①向某人寻求帮助:seek help from sb./turn to sb. for help ②继续:keep/go on ③克服:overcome/get over 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②高兴地:with a big smile/with pleasure 【点睛】 [高分句型1].
