The teenager makes her fortune through her artwork, which she sells as NFTs(non-fungible tokens) online. Speaking with Today, her mom Latoya Hayes said when her daughter was at 9, she bought her a smartphone. “I could see how passionate(热情的) she was about her art and I wanted to support her in any way,” said Hayes. At first, Nyla would draw pictures of her family on her phone and only show them to her loved ones. She told Today that she was nervous that people wouldn’t like them or thought they were strange. Gradually, the teen has developed a unique style for her art — what she calls “long neckies”. These are always pictures of people, mostly women, drawn with an elongated(伸长的) neck. The idea started from a childhood love of brontosauruses(雷龙). “I didn’t know what to call it,” she explained, speaking of the dinosaurs. “So I just thought of them as ‘long neckies’.” “At first I just wanted to put two things that I love together, and there was a brontosaurus and women,” Nyla explained to Today. “I wanted to show how beautiful and strong women were, and I thought of the brontosaurus as that as well.” Nyla added, “I love drawing women from all around the world because I really like different cultures and different backgrounds.” “Honestly, when I first heard about NFTs, I really didn’t know about this. But I’ve been wanting to put my art out for a while, so it was a good chance to do it,” she told Today. Little did she know that the long neckies would be a hit. “I just thought it would be cool to put my art out there and show people that,” she said. “I was never expecting it to blow up like this.” 4. What did Nyla Hayes’ mother expect her to do with a smartphone? A. Learn from great artists. B. Find her own passion. C. Keep in contact with others. D. Try her art. 5. She didn’t want to share them with anyone. 6. Why did Nyla Hayes produce “long neckies”? A. She tried to show the beauty of women. B. She desired to follow her childhood dream. C. She wanted to combine different cultures. D. She was inspired by two things she loves. 7. What is people’s attitude towards Nyla Hayes’ artwork? A. Interested. B. Doubtful. C. Bored. D. Unclear. C As Alexandria Country Day School’s sixth-graders created small 3D printed villages to address homelessness, they learned lessons far beyond technology. “It Takes a Village” began as a project for a science class — inspired by life-size 3D printed homes built by Austin, Texas-based technology company Icon, whose aim is to make affordable housing accessible to everyone. The tech-focused project quickly developed into an exercise to bring about lasting change, said science teacher Alison McDonald. “When most people think of helping the homeless, they think of food and clothing drives,” said Juliet Galicia, 11. While necessary, those are temporary solutions. Even housing by itself is not a complete solution. In designing their leave-homelessness-behind neighborhoods, shelters, food stores and schools came first. But to build a sense of belonging and purpose, the communities also emphasised areas for frequent interaction among residents. “We wanted to include extras that would make it feel more like a real community,” said Luke Wazorko, 11. “They get it!” said Amber Fogarty, president of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, anon-profit organization dealing with homelessness in Austin, after learning about the sixth-graders’ project. “The biggest cause of long-term homelessness is a loss in family relationships,” she said. “Housing alone will never solve homelessness, but the community will. People need a place where they are known and loved.” Many companies around the world are experimenting with this technology. So far, only interior (内部的) and exterior walls are 3D printed. A team of three to four people complete that task using a computer app and monitoring the process. Roofing, doors, windows, and finishing still need carpenters (木工), electricians and painters. Designs are adaptable to individual preferences. Amber Fogarty said, “It’s a journey of discovery. We don’t know what the future holds for this new technology, but we’re excited about its innovative possibilities.” 8. What gave the sixth-graders the idea of starting the project? A. The technology of an organization. B. People’s need for affordable homes. C. 3D printed homes made by a company. D. Suggestions from their science teacher. 9. What can we infer about the project from Paragraph 3? A. It was too expensive for the homeless. B. It aimed to create a sense of community. C. It found a solution to housing problems. D. It hardly considered people’s daily needs. 10. What did Amber Fogarty think of the project? A. It showed that the homeless were cared for. B. It collected a lot of money for the homeless. C. It provided a chance for the homeless to work. D. It made people in the community accept the homeless. 11. What would be the best title for the text? A. 3D printed homes set a good example to future homes B. Homeless people receive plenty of help from organizations C. Showing kindness to the homeless is important in the community D. Students use 3D printing to create a community for the homeless D Environmental management work between Rogart and Lairg has successfully been finished recently by Network Rail, on top of protecting nearby nesting hen harriers (白尾鹞), a kind of bird of great European importance. The location of the work runs through the Strath Carnaig and Strath Fleet Moors SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and SPA (Special Protection Area). Both are special areas for supporting a population of breeding (繁殖) hen harriers. Work necessary for the safe operation of the railway needed to be done at the same time as the breeding season so the work could have disturbed breeding harriers. But Network Rail’s ecology team worked with the Highland Raptor Study Group to conduct surveys of the hen harriers along the line. “It was a pleasure to work with Network Rail this spring and summer carrying out surveys along the line between Rogart and Lairg,” said Brian Etheridge, from the Highland Raptor Study Group. “The priority was to look for breeding hen harriers, a threatened bird of prey (猛禽).” Once breeding harriers had been identified, Network Rail put in place unique working procedures to reduce the influence on the birds. Measures were put in place to minimize noise disturbance, through the use of battery-operated chainsaws (链锯), and time-limited working in any one area to keep noise to a minimum. Before any form of work could start, an additional survey was carried out to check on any nesting hen harriers in order to confirm whether the work was safe to continue. A camera was also fixed to monitor nesting locations during the work to check that there were no signs of disturbance. Thanks to the efforts of Network Rail three hen harrier chicks grew healthily in their nests near the worksite. Jonathan Callis Senior Asset Engineer for Network Rail said, “We are delighted that the care, professionalism and cooperation demonstrated by everyone who contributed to this project have resulted in such a successful result for the birds.” 12. What can we learn from Paragraph 1? A. The railway work has started recently. B. Hen harriers are protected species in Europe. C. The railway plays an important role in Europe. D. Rogart and Lairg are home to hen harriers in the wild. 13. What did the Highland Raptor Study Group do for Network Rail’s project? A. They surveyed the hen harriers nesting near the worksite. B. They designed a new kind of chainsaw for Network Rail. C. They often monitored the working procedures of Network Rail. D. They developed a way to change the breeding habits of hen harriers. 14. What does the underlined word “minimize” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Create. B. Suffer. C. Reduce. D. Expand. 15. How did Network Rail’s efforts turn out? A. They were a great success. B. They were limited and dangerous. C. They caused serious noise pollution. D. Each day, I locked myself in my room, crying. Several months later, I finally tried moving on with my life. One day I headed to a downtown restaurant. There, I noticed Claire for the first time. She kept begging passers-by for food, but they ignored her. Feeling sorry, I invited her to join me for lunch. She nodded happily and thanked me. “I’m alone. I need someone to keep me company, so forget it. You’re doing me a favor,” I said. Claire smiled. When eating in the restaurant, the little girl stated she ended up in the streets after her single mom died. I felt more sorry. As she finished eating, I asked, “Where will you go now?” She smiled awkwardly, answering, “I live under the old town bridge. It’s the only place that doesn’t seem windy or cold. There I can sleep more peacefully.” I was shocked. That bridge might fall anytime because of being worn and broken. Frightened, I couldn’t let Claire return to that dangerous bridge. I decided to let her stay at my house for the night. We chatted the whole night. It was the first time that I had felt so happy and relaxed since my husband left me. Then, while she was sleeping that night, I sat by her bed and just kept looking at her. I felt like adopting (收养) her and keeping her with me, but I feared Claire wouldn’t want the same. So, the next day, I called an orphanage (孤儿院) and told the orphanage director about Claire. She asked if I could take care of her for a week, after which she would take Claire away. I agreed. In fact, I was really happy at the prospect of spending time with Claire. That entire week, whenever I was with Claire, I forgot about all my unhappiness. We’d go grocery shopping together, I’d cook different dishes for her, and we drew a lot of pictures. Paragraph 1: Sadly, the week went by quickly, and the time for Claire to leave arrived. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I rushed to the orphanage and told her that I wanted to stay with her too. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1–5 ABBCC 6–10 ACCAB 11–15 BCAAB 16–20 CCBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024/2025学年度第一学期联盟校期末考试 高二年级英语试题 (总分150分,考试时间120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. 5. What can we learn about Nyla Hayes’ early drawings on the phone? A. She decided to sell them. B. She thought very highly of them. C. She didn’t have much confidence in them. D. A. Interested. B. Doubtful. C. Bored. D. Unclear. D 5. C 6. D 7. 根据文章第二段“Speaking with Today, her mom Latoya Hayes said when her daughter was at 9, she bought her a smartphone. “I could see how passionate (热情的)she was about her art and I wanted to support her in any way,” said Hayes.(在接受《今日》采访时,她的妈妈Latoya Hayes表示,当她女儿9岁时,她给她买了一部智能手机。“我能看出她对艺术的热情,我想以任何方式支持她”Hayes说)”可知,Nyla Hayes的母亲希望她用智能手机尝试她的艺术创作。故选D。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“She told Today that she was nervous that people wouldn’t like them or thought they were strange.(她告诉《今日》杂志,她担心人们不喜欢它们,或者认为它们很奇怪)”可知,Nyla Hayes对自己早期的绘画作品没有太多信心。 根据文章第四段““At first I just wanted to put two things that I love together, and there was a brontosaurus and women,” Nyla explained to Today. “I wanted to show how beautiful and strong women were, and I thought of the brontosaurus as that as well.”(“起初,我只是想把我喜欢的两样东西放在一起,是雷龙和女人,”Nyla向《今日》解释道。我想展示女人是多么的美丽和强壮,我也想到了雷龙。)”可知起初她画“长脖子”的原因是想把她喜欢的两样东西放在一起,然后想到了雷龙,所以她的灵感是来自于她喜欢的两样东西。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Little did she know that the long neckies would be a hit. “I just thought it would be cool to put my art out there and show people that,” she said. “I was never expecting it to blow up like this.”(她根本不知道“长脖子”会大受欢迎。她说:“我只是觉得把我作品拿出来展示给大家看会很酷。”“我从没想过它会这么受欢迎。”)”可知,人们对Nyla Hayes的艺术作品非常感兴趣。故选A。 C As Alexandria Country Day School’s sixth-graders created small 3D printed villages to address homelessness, they learned lessons far beyond technology. A It was too expensive for the homeless. Students use 3D printing to create a community for the homeless 【答案】8. C 9. B 10. A 11. 根据第二段““It Takes a Village” began as a project for a science class — inspired by life-size 3D printed homes built by Austin, Texas-based technology company Icon, whose aim is to make affordable housing accessible to everyone.(“需要一个村庄”最初是一个科学课程项目,灵感来自德克萨斯州奥斯汀市的科技公司Icon建造的真人大小的3D打印房屋,该公司的目标是让每个人都能买得起住房)”可知,一家公司制作的3D打印房屋让六年级学生有了开始这个项目的想法。 根据第三段“But to build a sense of belonging and purpose, the communities also emphasised areas for frequent interaction among residents. “We wanted to include extras that would make it feel more like a real community,” said Luke Wazorko, 11.(但为了建立归属感和使命感,社区还强调了居民之间频繁互动的区域。11岁的卢克·瓦佐科说:“我们想加入一些额外的东西,让它更像一个真正的社区。”)”可知,这个项目旨在创造一种社区意识。故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段““They get it!” said Amber Fogarty, president of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, anon-profit organization dealing with homelessness in Austin, after learning about the sixth-graders’ project. “The biggest cause of long-term homelessness is a loss in family relationships,” she said. “Housing alone will never solve homelessness, but the community will. People need a place where they are known and loved.”(“他们明白了!”在了解了六年级学生的项目后,负责处理奥斯汀无家可归问题的非营利组织“流动面包和鱼”的总裁安布尔·福格蒂说。“长期无家可归的最大原因是失去了家庭关系,”她说。“住房本身永远无法解决无家可归问题,但社区可以。人们需要一个被了解和被爱的地方。”)”可知,安布尔·福格蒂认为这个项目表明无家可归的人得到了照顾。故选A。 D。 D Environmental management work between Rogart and Lairg has successfully been finished recently by Network Rail, on top of protecting nearby nesting hen harriers (白尾鹞), a kind of bird of great European importance. Thanks to the efforts of Network Rail, three hen harrier chicks grew healthily in their nests near the worksite. D. They guaranteed the safety of workers. 12. B 13. A 14. C 15. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Sadly, the week went by quickly, and the time for Claire to leave arrived. After she left, I cried, feeling my soul being empty again. I entered her room and looked at the pictures she had drawn, remembering the time we had spent together. As I was packing them in a box, a sheet of paper fell on the floor. I picked it up. It was a picture of Claire and me, with a note reading, “I love staying with you.” I rushed to the orphanage and told her that I wanted to stay with her too. That was how I adopted her. When I brought Claire home, she hugged me tightly, asking whether she could call me Mom now. I immediately nodded as I hugged her back happily, saying, “I’m your mom. I’ll always be there for you.” From that day on, I never felt lonely. A child got her mom, and a lonely soul got a loving child. 词汇激活 行为类 ①收养:adopt/take in ②记得:remember/recall ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①孤独的:lonely/isolated ②开心地:happily/delightedly 【点睛】[高分句型1] I entered her room and looked at the pictures she had drawn, remembering the time we had spent together.(运用了现在分词作状语,省略了that的定语从句) [高分句型2]When I brought Claire home, she hugged me tightly, asking whether she could call me Mom now.(运用了when引导时间状语从句,现在分词作状语,whether引导宾语从句) 听力1–5 ABBCC 6–10 ACCAB 11–15 BCAAB 16–20 CCBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
