There is nothing ordinary about this little boy's adorable experience with his musical heroes.5-year-old Taylor Hooper was just one of the 35,0000 people who were attending the Foo Fighters concert in Belfast, Norther Ireland last week. Not only is the American rock group his favorite band, it was also his first ever concert.
Taylor's mother, Nikki Hooper, says that she and her husband have always been huge fans of the Foo Fighters. In addition to traveling far and wide to see their shows, they even named their son after the drummer, Taylor Hawkins. So when the band played in their home city, they decided it was finally time for their son to see their beloved rock and rockers in concert.
“He's been listening to them since he was born — mainly because his dad and I are super fans.” Mrs Hooper told BBC. “We called the event organizers and they said it would be no problem, but that we should know it would be a loud music event, so we got Taylor some special headphones. When we got there everyone was so welcoming to him.”
Throughout the show, the audience continuously made Taylor and his parents move closer to the stage. Furthermore, Mrs. Hooper helped her son stand out from the crowd by making him a sign that said he was a 5-year-old attending his first concert.
When Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl finally saw the sign and read it aloud into the microphone, the crowd began chanting for them to bring the youngster onto the stage. That's exactly what he did. When the stage managers brought the boy to the stage, Grohl asked Taylor to show the crowd how to dance.
The small boy then danced to the whole song, making him an “Inter net wonder”. Taylor didn't just walk away from the show with memories, either;the band also invited him backstage to give him a number of gifts, including a pair of Taylor Hawkins's drumsticks.
24. What is Foo Fighters in the passage?
A. I's a music show. B. It's a music band. C. It's a pop song. D. It's a music fan.
25. We can learn from Paragraph 3 that_______.
A. the organizers refused to let the child watch the show
B. there was nothing wrong for the child to watch the show
C. the organizers suggested the kid take care of the loud noise
D. the child felt so scared that he didn't want to go to the stage
26. How did 5-year-old Taylor Hooper cause people's attention?
A. By shouting loudly. B. By running to the singers.
C. By holding a sign showing his age. D. By dancing to the whole song.
27. How did Taylor feel about his first ever concert?
A. Worried. B. Scared. C. Sorry. D. Pleased.
【答案】24. B 25. C 26. C 27. D

【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“The small boy then danced to the whole song, making him an “Inter net wonder”. Does your local high school have a student newspaper? Only 1 in 8 of New York’s public high schools has student newspapers- and many of those are published just a few times a year.
Rebecca Dwarka, an 18-yeax-old senior who works for her student paper said, “Nowadays nearly nobody wants to actually sit down and read a whole article about the news, This makes ’a whole article’ sound a little like a long sentence in lonely places.”
I am not nostalgic (怀旧的) about high school student newspapers. I put out what was then called a personal magazine with a group of friends because we wanted to write about peace, war and rock and roll without school officials warming us not to make jokes of this or that.
School newspapers are in decline because students now find out what happened on social networking websites. This is a little discouraging because it proves that for millions of Americans, journalism is becoming a do-it-yourself thing. Every citizen can be a reporter.
When something happens, we look for social media messages. They have become the means by which citizens and reporters can prove, deny(否认), pass on stories and express opinions without the press’s challenging, researching or delaying the messages
But truly good journalism is a craft, not just a blog post. It requires observing something carefully and it uses an eye for detail to help illuminate(阐明) a larger view. And even journalism that expresses an opinion tries to be fair. If school newspapers begin to disappear, I hope there are other ways for students to learn that.
28. What can we infer from Rebecca’s words?
A. School newspapers are becoming unpopular.
B. Long sentences are becoming popular in lonely places.
C. School newspapers are the slowest way of spreading.
D. Students like reading detailed articles.
29. What does the author think of social media messages?
A. They make journalism become a craft.
B. They represent the power of small voices.
C. They are coming without careful research.
D. They are usually discouraging for readers.
30. What should good journalism do according to the author?
A. Express an opinion in a fair way.
B. Ignore some details.
C. Spread a message quickly.
D. Act as blog posts in modern times.
31. Which might be the most suitable title for the passage?
A. Social media or newspapers?
B. High School Newspapers- an Endangered Species
C. Everyone can Become a Reporter at Present
D. Social Networking Brings about New Journalism
【答案】28. A 29. C 30. A 31. B

Antarctica (南极洲) is the coldest, windiest, highest and driest continent (大陆) on the planet. The lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth was -94.7℃in eastern Antarctica in 2010. The continent experiences regular Katabatic winds, reaching 300 km per hour. There is little rainfall and the air is very dry. Indeed, the Polar Plateau (极地高原) is regarded as a desert which experiences similar rainfall levels to the Sahara Desert.
It is the fifth-largest continent and is almost 1.5 times the size of the United States. Its coastline covers about 18,000 km. About 98% of the continent is covered in a thick continental ice sheet and the remaining 2% is rock.
Antarctica has six months of daylight followed by six months of darkness. It contains 70% of the planet’s freshwater and 90% of the world’s ice.
Strong winds and wild storm shave been closely connected with Antarctica since its discovery and continue to be a main challenge for modern explorers. Most of the early diaries and tales of exploration of Antarctica are filled with stories of how the weather was man’s biggest enemy on the continent. Nature’s power is seldom seen as ferocious as it is in Antarctica, making it one of the most difficult places to live on Earth.
The first people to reach the South Pole were from the Norwegian-led expedition (探险队) of Roald Amundsen on December 14,1911. One month later, Robert, Scott’s British expedition also reached 90 South but all members unluckily died on their return journey.
Before this, the thought over the existence of a “southern land” was not confirmed until the early 1820s. At this time, British and American business operators and British and Russian national expeditions began exploring the Antarctic Peninsula area and other areas south of the Antarctic Circle. In 1840, it was believed that Antarctica is indeed a continent and not just a group of islands.
32. What can we know about Antarctica from paragraph 1?
A. It is covered by sand. B. It hardly rains there.
C. The air there is wet. D. The average temperature there was high.
33. What does the underlined word “ferocious” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Strong. B. Gentle. C. Common. D. Amazing.
34. Which expedition first arrived at the South Pole?
A. Norwegian. B. British. C. American. D. Russian.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Antarctica: A Dream Place B. Antarctica: A Challenging Place
C. Antarctica: A Plateau D. Antarctica: Expedition’s New Goal
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. A 35. B

【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Antarctica (南极洲) is the coldest, windiest, highest and driest continent(大陆) on the planet. The lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth was -94.7℃in eastern Antarctica in 2010. When learning to deal with embarrassment, the first big thing that will help you is to realize that embarrassing moments are in the past. These things have already occurred and there is nothing that you can do to change them. It might have been tough to get through those moments, but you’re here now and everything is okay.
●Talk to someone about how you’re feeling.
If you’re struggling with feelings of embarrassment, then you should try to talk to people that you trust.____38____You’ll likely find that these people will put things into perspective and you’ll feel much better.

●Get out there and try again.
The fear of embarrassment should not hold you back from getting out there to try again. If you want to move past embarrassment for good, then the best way to do that is not to let it stop you from living your life. This could mean doing the same thing that embarrassed you in the past. 第二节 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Today's test score will decide who has topped the class, so be ready,” announced Miss Natasha in the classroom.
Miss Natasha got everyone's test papers, cleared her throat to announce the results and distributed the test papers among the students. Everyone was nervous about their scores that would be announced soon.
Ali and Bob have been competitors since class one and each year either one of the two came first in the class. This year, there was tough competition between both of them, and they eagerly awaited the results.
“Peter, 18,”announced Miss Natasha as she handed him his paper,“Eric, 16, Ali, 20, Bob, 19 ... and lastly Alia, 15.”
When Miss Natasha had distributed the test papers in class, everyone found out that Ali beat Bob by one mark and topped the class. Everyone congratulated him and Ali was happy as he accepted everyone's congratulations.
As Ali was about to put his paper in his bag, he noticed that by mistake Miss Natasha had given him two marks for an incorrect answer. He was shocked. He rechecked his answers and realized that all his answers were correct except for that one. Now if he informed Miss Natasha about it, he would not only lose two marks but also his first position.
Considering the situation, he remained quiet and went home. But all day he kept thinking about it. Should he or shouldn't he tell Miss Natasha about it? He thought that it had been already done, and no one would notice if he didn't tell anyone, but then another thought crossed his mind. If he didn't tell the teacher about it and stayed the position-holder in class, he wouldn't rightfully take the position as it clearly belonged to Bob.
This situation put Ali in a hard position. His parents always taught him to do the right thing, but doing the right thing here meant he would lose his first position. He remembered how everyone cheered for him and congratulated him in class.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

“My son, you are a brave and honest boy so just do what you think is right,”his mum continued.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 He knew that by informing the teacher about it, he would lose it all. As he fought with his thoughts, his mum asked him,“What's the matter?”“Mum, what if doing the right thing would mean you would lose something?”he asked in reply.“Son, if it is the right thing to do, then I am sure you will be rewarded for it. A wrong thing may seem attractive at first, but if it is wrong, it will hurt us someday,” his mum said.
“My son, you are a brave and honest boy so just do what you think is right,”his mum continued. The next day in class, Miss Natasha announced,“Today Ali has done what only a few of us would have the courage to do. He came to me and told me that I had mistakenly given him two marks and he was right about it, so the first position goes to Bob, not Ali.” Everyone, even Bob, was surprised by this development. After the class, Bob asked Ali,“Why did you do that?”Ali simply replied,“Because it was the right thing to do.

A. They make journalism become a craft.
B. They represent the power of small voices.
C. They are coming without careful research.
D. They are usually discouraging for readers.
30. What should good journalism do according to the author?
A. Express an opinion in a fair way.
B. Ignore some details.
C. Spread a message quickly.
D. Act as blog posts in modern times.
31. Which might be the most suitable title for the passage?
A. Social media or newspapers?
B. High School Newspapers- an Endangered Species
C. Everyone can Become a Reporter at Present
D. Social Networking Brings about New Journalism

A It is covered by sand. B. It hardly rains there.
C. The air there is wet. D. The average temperature there was high.
33. What does the underlined word “ferocious” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Strong. B. Gentle. C. Common. D. Amazing.
34. Which expedition first arrived at the South Pole?
A. Norwegian. B. British. C. American. D. Russian.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Antarctica: A Dream Place B. Antarctica: A Challenging Place
C. Antarctica: A Plateau D. Antarctica: Expedition’s New Goal

注意:1. 续写词数应为150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
He knew that by informing the teacher about it, he would lose it all.
