It got to the point that every word out of the bird’s mouth was obnoxious.

Technology is everywhere. We see it any place we go and, in fact, almost all of
us carry some piece of technology with us every time we leave the house. What I
always forget, though, is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we
want to help others.
There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic
devices(设备)lying around in it. Whenever I am at home, I am almost always using at
least one electronic device. If you walked into my living room on any given day, you
would find that, first, I have the television on. At the same time, I usually have my
laptop resting on my knee, or I will be using my mobile phone. Even when I'm not at
home I am always using my phone, and at work or in cafes, I sit down and connect to
the local wireless network on my laptop.
I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it
could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering.
The technology we carry about everywhere can have a great power to do good
for the world and to help others and recently I discovered just how much online
volunteering there is to do in the world. From using your language skills to do
translations, to developing and managing projects and helping with IT work, there is
so much that so many people can do to help people in their own countries and across
the world. The United Nations, in fact, has a huge page with "Volunteers Recruited"
on its website.
This work can support the poor and help charities who cannot pay for staff.
Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week-some even less. And the
support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in
need.
9.From Paragraph 2, what can we know about the writer?
A.The writer works in a cafe. B. The writer uses technology a lot.
C. The writer is a computer engineer. D. The writer likes modern music.
10.If a person wants to do online volunteering but has limited time, what should he
do?
A. Give up the idea.
B. Look for projects that require less time.
C. Try to make more time.
D. Choose other types of volunteering.
11.In the writer's opinion, what should people spend more time with technology?
A. working on computer programs B. keeping the Internet safe
C. inventing electronic products D. helping people in need
12.What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Website Design B. Internet Organizations
C. Online Volunteering D. Online Translation

There have been many great inventions or things that changed the way we live.
The first great invention was the one that is still very important today-the wheel(轮子).
This made it easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distance(距离).
For hundreds of years after that, there were few inventions that as much effect
(影响) as the wheel. Then in the early 1800s the world started to change. There was
little unknown land left in the world. People didn't have to explore (探索) much
anymore. They began to work instead to make life better.
In the second half of the 19th century many great inventions were made. Among
them were the camera, the light and radio. These all play a big part in our daily life
today.
The first part of the 20th century saw more great inventions, such as the
helicopter (直升飞机) in 1909, movies with sound in1926, the computer in 1928, jet
planes(喷气式飞机)in1930. This was also a time when a new material was first made.
Nylon (尼龙) came out in 1935. It changed the kind of clothes people wore.
The middle part of the 20th country brought new ways to help people get over
diseases(疾病).They worked very well. They made people healthier and allowed them
to live longer. By the 1960s most people could expect to live to be at least 60.
By this time most people in developed countries had a very good life. Of course
new
inventions continued to be made But man now had a desire(渴望)to explore again.
The earth was known to man but the stars were not. Man began looking for ways to
go into space. Russia made the first step. Then United States took a step. Since then
other countries, including China and Japan, have made their own steps into space. In
1969 man took his biggest step away from the earth. Americans first walked on the
moon. This is certainly just a beginning, though. New inventions will some day allow
us to do things we have never yet dreamed of.
13. What does this passage mainly talk about?
A.why cars were very important
B.when light was invented
C.which country made the first step into space
D.how invention affect people's daily life
14.According to the passage, when didn’t man have a desire to explore a lot?
A. at the beginning of 1800s B in the 1960s
C. since the 1900s D from the 1800s to 1960s
15. In the 1800s,what did people begin to work in order to make?
A.explorations B.their life better
C.discoveries D.a trip to space
16.What came out of five years earlier than Nylon?
A.radio B.camera
C.jet planes D. movies

Benefits of Personality Tests
Are you an “E” (extrovert) person or “I” (introvert) person? A personality
test called MBTI(人格类型量表) is very popular these days. Can knowing one’s
personality type by using the MBTI and other personality tests really help? They
may. 17
Better understand others
After taking a personality test and seeing our results, we can gain a better
understanding of all the different reactions in the same situation. 18 . No
personality type is “better” than any other — just different. Each reaction brings
something new and interesting to the table.
Know our likes and dislikes
Maybe we’ve always hated talking on the phone but never really understood
why. 19 . By using personality tests like the MBTI, we can learn more about
where we lie on the extroversion/introversion and thinking/feeling continuum(连
续体 ). This helps us better understand why we prefer certain things and dislike
others.
20
Learning more about our personality type can also help us discover new
ways to face challenges. Knowing what might work best for our personality type
can give us new ideas on how to solve problems, deal with stress, and manage our
work habits.
A.Hold on to ideas about who we are
B.Know which situations are ideal for us
C.Here are the benefits of personality tests
D.This is important because we all have different ways of seeing and interacting
with the world
E.Or perhaps we’ve always needed much time to think about a problem before
making a decision

When I was a kid, I was taught that animals knew everything the moment they
were born. Today, it’s known that many animals learn important skills from their
parents (usually their mothers).
Like humans, the first “food” other baby mammals(哺乳动物) get is their mothers’
milk. After a period of weeks or months, it’s time to eat meat. At first, adult animals
like wolves bring back killed animals, so babies can eat easily. As babies grow older,
their mothers bring back wounded animals, so the young can improve their killing
skills. At last, the young go out with their mothers to watch and take part in the hunt.
Sea lions catch fish and let them go in front of their young. They repeat this many
times until the young learn how to catch fish by themselves.
Baby orangutans(猩猩 ) stay with their mothers for eight years. Mothers teach
their young what foods to eat and where to find them depending on the season of the
year. There’s a lot to learn because orangutans eat leaves, flowers, different kinds of
insects and lots of fruits.
Baby elephants don’t know how to use their trunks(象鼻子) right after birth. At
first, they just swing them around and sometimes they even step on them. By
watching their mothers, they gradually learn how to use their trunks to feed, bathe and
cool themselves.
41.What food do baby mammals eat right after they are born?
42.How long do baby orangutans live with their mother?
43.How do sea lions teach their young to get food?
44.What does the passage mainly tell us?
