(23-24八年级上·山东淄博·期中)My father never hugged (拥抱) or kissed me when I was a child. And he never said “I love you” to me, either. But whenever I felt sad or lonely, he was always there.
When I was in high school, my father set up a food stand (摊位) on the street near my school. Every day my classmates and I would pass his food stand. But I never talked to him in front of his food stand.
One night, I couldn’t stand it anymore and shouted, “Could you stop selling your stupid noodles? I don’t need a father who sells noodles on the street!” At that moment, my father tried to say something but he didn’t. His eyes were filled with tears (眼泪) (哭). My mom later told me that dad sold noodles to save money for my college education. Today I still feel sorry for that night.
Dad’s love is different. When I got home from college, dad was always there meeting me and seeing me off at the railway station quietly. When I was away from home, he never called me, and that’s how my dad shows his love to me.
1.What did the writer’s dad do when he was a high school student?

Do you feel sad or lonely at the end of a day? Many of us look for ways to make ourselves feel better, perhaps by exercising, cooking or reading. But experts (专家) say keeping a diary can improve our health.
“Just write down your thoughts and feelings and then you will understand them more clearly,” said Julia Samuel, an expert who helps people with their mental (精神的) health problems. “Talking to your diary by writing things down can be as good as talking to another person when you feel bad.” Keeping a diary is also good for people’s physical (身体的) health. Do you laugh every day? Most people do. Scientists say that people laugh about 17 times a day on average (平均). That is lots of laughter.
In India, there are hundreds of laughter clubs. They aren’t a place for people to watch interesting shows. They’re a place for people to practice laughing. People get together every morning. First, they put their hands on their heads. Then they pretend (假装) to laugh. But after a short time, everyone is laughing naturally. They say they feel good after laughing together.
Scientists believe that laughter is good for us. Why do they think so? For one thing, laughter is good exercise. When we laugh, we exercise many muscles (肌肉) in our body. Scientists say that one hundred laughs is the same as ten minutes of running. For another, when we laugh, we also breathe deeply (深呼吸). This helps us relax. That’s good for us, too.
Why do we laugh? That’s a hard question to answer. We know that people laugh more often in a group. They don’t laugh very often when there is no one with them. Many scientists believe that we use laughter to connect (把……联系起来) with other people. Laughter helps us feel part of a group.

How do you feel about exams? If you’re anxious (焦虑的) about your exams, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Every year many young people sit exams and most of them will face some anxiety before the big day.
Eating the right food can feed your brain and keep you active. Nutritional therapist Kerry Torrens recommends making breakfast the most important meal of the day. She recommends eating energy, like oats (燕麦) and eggs to help improve memory as we age. And she also advises drinking lots of water. Some research says students who take water into the exam hall may even improve their grades.
A good night’s sleep will always help you work and think better the next day. If you get good sleep, you can remember the information you have revised better. And it’s good to wind down before bedtime too—no watching TV or chatting on social media!
Another good way to reduce your stress is to learn to free your mind. Lisa Artis from the Sleep Council, says when your mind can’t take in any more information, you need to stop. It’s good to take breaks or reward yourself, like a cake or a quick run around the block.
And don’t forget that there are some people who will always be more anxious than you: your parents! They’re there to support you but they’ll also be worrying about you and the final results. So maybe sometimes you need to give them some advice—take it easy, everything will be OK!

2.What can’t you do to have a good night’s sleep before bedtime?

(24-25八年级上·黑龙江绥化·期中)Do you have sleeping problems? Is it hard for you to remember or pay attention in class? Do you easily get angry? If your answer is yes, you may be under stress. Stress is a normal physical response (反应) to things that make people feel worried. In China, 70 percent of the 2,000 students about to take the college or high school entrance examination are under high stress, according to a recent survey by Wuhan University.
Sometimes stress is good for people. It pushes people to do their best, like while getting ready before a big competition or exam. However, too much or long-term stress makes people feel a stress overload (负荷过多), and affects people’s health.
When you feel stressed, there are some ways you can deal with it. Learning to solve small problems in everyday life is helpful. It can help build confidence (自信) to move on to life’s bigger ones. Try saying positive things to yourself, like “I will do the best that I can,” or “I can manage this if I take one step at a time.” That encourages you to work toward your goal. It is also important to relax sometimes, for example by getting a good night’s sleep, doing exercise or taking a bath. But if you are under high stress and can’t handle (承受) it by yourself, it is also good to ask parents or friends for help. Everyone has stress. Don’t be too shy to tell others that you are having a hard time. They may comfort you or give you some useful advice. You may feel better just from sharing your problems with them.

Some people even say that laughter is the best medicine. If a man is ill, laughter can help him get well. What do you think?
