China is a nation of etiquette (礼仪). Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests.
When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks (小吃) like biscuits or candy. Someone in the family will also chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.
At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat (款待) their guests with a big meal. They always present more food than the guest can eat. On the table, the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprises a western guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for visitors, which won’t happen at western tables. The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. As you are done eating, the host usually says, “It seems that you didn’t eat much. Please have more. ” Although you tell them you are full, they still put more food in your bowl.

Strength training isn’t just for grown-ups; it’s great for kids, too! It helps make their muscles (肌肉), bones, and even the whole body stronger, and it’s totally safe. Old ideas said it might hurt kids or make them shorter, but that’s not true. In fact, kids who do strength training are less likely to get hurt than those playing soccer or basketball.
Strength training helps kids in lots of ways. It helps them enjoy activities for a longer time without getting tired. Plus, it’s good for their mood (心情) and makes them feel more confident. The cool part is that kids get stronger by learning to use their muscles better, not just by making their muscles bigger.
If your kid wants to start strength training, it’s important to learn from a good coach. They’ll teach your child how to do things right so they don’t get hurt. Avoid tough exercises in the beginning. Only when they get better can they use things like resistance bands (弹力带) to make it harder.
Strength training should be fun. Kids should explore a variety of exercises and pick the ones they like. A good plan is to train two or three times a week, giving their body time to rest in between. At first, they might do fewer exercises to focus on doing them right, but as they improve, they can do more to keep getting stronger.

When I was a young boy, every summer, Mom, Dad, my brothers and I would climb into our old car and drive for 7 hours over long mountain roads to visit Mom’s relatives in Tennessee. We always stayed in Grandma’s house there with her, Uncle Rich and Aunt Charlotte. It was a fun time with days full of excitement and joy. Often Aunt Charlotte would even make us a Thanksgiving dinner in the summertime. Some of my happiest childhood memories came from those vsits.
One especially holds a special place in my heart. During that visit, I had great fun every day. One evening, I climbed into bed in the guest bedroom on the second floor of the house. Although I had played and explored the whole day and was really tired, I was still wide awake, my mind racing with the day’s sweet events. As I lay there, I heard the most pleasant sound coming from the front window below me. It was laughter. Mom, Dad, Uncle Rich, and Aunt Charlotte were down there sharing stories and telling jokes. The laughter was so happy, so joyous, that I found myself smiling. And even then in my young mind and childish heart, I realized that this is how life should be. The laughter became a sweet song to me and I fell asleep feeling all was right with the world.
Whenever my life seems too hard or crazy, I look back on that memory. And I took the lessons that Uncle Rich and Aunt Charlotte taught me. They always lived their lives with love and joy and laughter and smiles. Uncle Rich passed away many years ago but Aunt Charlotte is still alive. I write to her each week and I am so thankful to still have her in my life.
We fill lives with laughter and smiles and love and joy. We not only give ourselves happiness but also make this world a better and more beautiful place.

A. A road trip. B. A visit.

14. Why couldn’t the author fall asleep at first that night?
A. He was too excited. B. He wanted to continue playing.
C. He thought it was too noisy. D. He wondered what others were talking about.
15. What lesson did the author learn from his aunt and uncle?
A. Try to smile at your life. B. Happiness leads to a long life.

Last summer vacation, I went to the countryside near my town to escape from the busy city. I lived in a peaceful village surrounded by mountains and the people there were nice to me. One day, I decided to go for a walk in the nearby forest. I had my backpack prepared with water, food, and sunscreen. I was excited to spend some time in nature to enjoy the fresh air and peace.
The forest was attractive, with towering trees that seemed to touch the sky and colorful wild flowers under my feet. I walked deeper into the woods, attracted by the pleasant sounds of birds. The path I followed was winding and narrow, but I paid little attention, carried away by the beauty unfolding in front of me. I started to notice that the trees around me looked unfamiliar(陌生的). Soon I found myself lost. I realized that I had no idea which way to go.
The sun was setting and I knew that I needed to find a way out before it got dark. I started walking, trying to remember which direction I had come from. But the forest was a maze(迷宫) of winding paths, and I soon found myself going in circles. Every tree looked the same, and every path seemed to lead nowhere.
The sound of leaves made me jump. Was it a wild animal? Or worse, a person? My heart was racing and I tried to stay calm as I listened for other sounds. But there was only silence, broken now and then by the distant calls of birds. As the sun set, I fully understood the seriousness of my situation. There was no food or water left. I was hungry, thirsty and worse still, completely alone, lost in a wilderness that could easily devour(吞噬) me. I walked nervously, tripping over things in my path, feeling frightened with racing heartbeats. Hours passed, or maybe only minutes. Time had lost all meaning in this place.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I was about to give up hope when I saw a weak light in the distance.

The house owner welcomed me inside.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I was about to give up hope when I saw a weak light in the distance. I felt a surge of hope and started running towards it. As I got closer, I realized it was a small house. I knocked on the door, hoping someone would answer. After a few moments, the door opened, and an old man appeared. I explained my situation to him, and he kindly invited me inside.
The house owner welcomed me inside. He gave me some food and water, and I felt grateful for his kindness. We sat by the fire and talked for a while. He told me that he lived alone in the forest and knew the area well. He offered to show me the way out in the morning. I spent the night at his house, feeling relieved and safe. The next day, he guided me out of the forest, and I was able to return to the village. This experience taught me the importance of never giving up hope in difficult situations.

So, strength training is a safe and fun way for kids to get healthier and stronger. With the right guidance and a bit of fun, it’s a great activity for kids of all ages.

第二节(满分25分)
