People often ask me for suggestions about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different. I’ll share some of my experience. I once took a school year English course in Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.
One thing I can tell you is that, once you’ve started learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see something when you’re riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about, “How would I say them in English?” At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I’m in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It’s amazing how much this helps.
For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn’t want to make mistakes. Finally, I got it over. And while traveling in America, I’d try to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese, so that I’d have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.

When I met and married (嫁给) a kind Japanese man. I thought he would learn a little more English and we would live in the US. But we ended up living in Tokyo! I needed to learn Japanese... and fast! You know, if you can’t speak the language, living in a foreign country can be very lonely (孤独的).

Are you an “I” person or an “E” person? People have talked about it a lot online these days. The ideas come from a popular personality (性格) test called MBTI. They test the personality in eight ways. Each way uses a letter to show the meaning. After the test each person will get a four-letter result to show the personality. In all, there are sixteen kinds of personality in the test.
Why do people want to take the MBTI test? Here are the survey results from three people by Life Week magazine.
“People want to learn about themselves and others,” Guo Yongyu, an expert said. “When they know themselves and others better, they can learn to be with others. That helps them feel more relaxed.”
Gao Yanyi, a middle school student from Shanxi, thinks that the MBTI test can help her find friends with similar MBTI results to hers quickly. She adds, “But that should not be the only way to find friends. Sometimes it could make me lose possible good friends with different kinds of MBTI.”
Ma Ruina, from Beijing No. 4 Middle school, took the test once. He doesn’t want to use it in his life again. It made him feel like it’s limiting (限制). “Everyone is different, and it’s not right to put people into simple groups,” he says.
The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun ice-breaking question when meeting new friends. But that’s all it is—for fun. Knowing other’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t decide who you are.

“I wish I had straight hair”, “I’d like to be taller”. At times, we all want to look a bit more like someone else. However, the pictures we see on TV and social media (社交媒体) can give us improper ideas about how our bodies “should” look. The truth is that everybody is different and that’s a good thing. Accepting and feeling good about our bodies is really important for our self-confidence (自信).
Body confidence is when someone accepts and behaves kindly towards their body. That includes our size and shape, skin color, appearance and any physical disabilities. Jade Parnell from the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR), says that having body confidence is “about being accepting of your body and what it does for you”.
If you feel positively (积极地) about your body, you are more likely to take care of it. Research has even shown that you are more likely to take part in activities and do well in school. However, feeling agitated about your body could make you step back, do less well at school and even feel down. Parnell says that the cost of trying to achieve the “perfect” appearance is high. She says, “If you’re spending a lot of time trying to look a certain way, you will have less time to spend with friends and to make important memories.”
It’s important to remember that everybody is different. To develop a positive body image, Parnell says, “Try to talk positively about your own body and other people’s bodies. Try not to pay too much attention to appearance. Instead, think about what your body does for you; do your legs make you run really fast?” She also suggests treating your body well by eating different kinds of foods, exercising to feel good and to have fun, and getting plenty of sleep. Remember that you are more than how you look.
1.What does the writer think of the pictures on TV and social media?
A.They are perfect for people to follow. B.They may give wrong ideas of looks.
C.They show everyone is different. D.They show people how to behave kindly.
2.What does the underlined word “agitated” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Scared. B.Serious. C.Careless. D.Worried.
3.Which of the following will Parnell agree with?
A.You should accept your body as it is. B.You should avoid talking about others’ bodies.
C.You should spend more money on your appearance. D.You should remember what you used to be like.
4.According to Parnell, which of the following can not help us develop a positive body image?
A.Talk positively about other people’s bodies. B.Don’t pay too much attention to appearance.
C.Eat different kinds of foods as much as you like. D.Think about what your body does for you.
5.What is the main purpose (目的) of the passage?
A.To encourage readers to take more exercise. B.To remind readers not to eat too much food.
C.To lead readers to build up body confidence. D.To advise readers to treat their friends well.

Thanks.

1.How many ways does the MBTI test use to show each person’s personality?
A.One. B.Four. C.Eight. D.Sixteen.
2.Which of the following is TRUE according to the survey results?
A.Most people are serious about the MBTI test.
B.Guo Yongyu advises people not to take the test.
C.Gao Yanyi may use it to help find similar friends.
D.Ma Ruina agrees to put people into the same groups.
3.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
4.What might be the writer’s opinion about the MBTI test according to Paragraph 6?
A.People should be serious about the result of the MBTI test.
B.The MBTI test can show everything you don’t know about yourself.
C.The MBTI test is an interesting way to learn more about your new friends.
D.Knowing someone’s MBTI result means you really know this person.

These days, most people in the UK and the US wear informal (非正式的) clothes. But sometimes it is important to wear the right thing. Many British people don't think about clothes very much. When they go out to enjoy themselves, they can wear almost (几乎) anything. At theatres, cinemas and concerts you can put on anything you like: from beautiful suits (套装) and dresses to jeans and sweaters. Anything goes, but you should look clean and tidy (整洁的). But in the UK, as well as in the US, men in offices usually wear suits and ties and women wear dresses or skirts (not trousers). Doctors and business people always wear quite formal clothes. And in some hotels (宾馆) and restaurants men have to wear ties and women have to wear tidy dresses.
In many ways, Americans are less formal than British people, but they are more careful with their clothes. At home, or on holiday, most Americans wear informal or sports clothes.
