Seba Stephens is only 10 years old, but he’s a very talented musician. He plays the drums, bass, guitar and piano. Recently, he got a professional certificate (证书) in music through the Berklee Online program at the famous Berklee College of Music.
Seba and his family live in Memphis, Tennessee—a place famous for music. He grew up with music all around, but he especially loved the drumming of Stewart Copeland from the band The Police. “The songs of The Police are full of so much cool drumming (鼓声),” he says.
Before he turned three, his parents asked him what he wanted for his birthday. “Drums!” he answered. His parents weren’t sure, but after seeing him play the drums at a local music store, they decided he was serious. They bought him a junior drum kit (成套装备). It was a huge step. “He didn’t stop playing ever,” says his dad, Everett.
But soon Seba grew upset. He couldn’t get his junior drum kit to make the sounds he heard Mr. Copeland making. It was a lesson for the family: good instruments were worth paying for. His parents bought him a professional drum kit and signed him up for lessons. In just a few months, his drum teacher, a famous drummer, reported that Seba was learning very quickly and needed a higher level of training. He was still four!
He faced challenges because of his size. “I couldn’t see over my drum set,” he says. “And I couldn’t reach some of the cymbals (铙钹).”
Seba wanted to start a band, but Everet said he had to “at least be in kindergarten” to do that. Everett thought he was joking, but Seba actually started a band in kindergarten. By the first grade, he was making money playing music.

The albatross is a fascinating seabird, known as the “King of the Sea”. It is a collection of bird families. There are many (14 at least) different kinds of albatrosses, and the largest kind has about 3.5-metre-long wings. Like other seabirds, albatrosses can drink sea water. They mainly live on fish, and they sometimes follow ships to eat leftovers. They usually catch fish on the surface; they may also dive (俯冲) into water to catch their “seafood”.
Albatrosses are known for their excellent flying abilities. They can fly thousands, even tens of thousands of kilometers without stopping. In windy conditions, they are able to stay in the air for hours without flapping their wings.
Most albatrosses live in the Antarctic and the North Pacific. They spend most of their lives on the sea. In winter, you can also find them in Shandong, Taiwan and other seaside (海滨) provinces of China. Every autumn, they fly back to their old homes on the islands far away from the land, where they give birth to babies by laying eggs. The mother albatross lays one egg every two years. The egg is taken care of by the parents in turn. Baby birds grow very slowly. They can’t fly until about 10 months after birth.
Albatrosses are beautiful seabirds, but their population is very small. Many kinds of albatrosses are even in danger. China has listed albatrosses as first-class protected birds. Some of them have been listed on IUCN Red List. However, the protection of albatrosses still faces many challenges. Further international cooperation (合作) and scientific research are needed to make sure these beautiful seabirds continue to fly freely in the sky.
12. What can we learn about albatrosses from Paragraph 1?
A. They don’t belong to any of the bird families.
B. Most of them dive deep into water to catch fish.
C. They can be divided into many different kinds.
D. Their living habit is different from that of other birds.
13. Where do albatrosses live for most of their lives?
A. On the sea. B. On the land. C. On the island. D. On the coast.
14. Which of the following about albatrosses is true?
A. The mother albatross lays two eggs every year.
B. It is the father’s duty to take care of their baby.
C. The parents take turns to look after their egg.
D. Baby birds are able to fly two months after birth.
15. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To call on people to stop killing albatrosses for food.
B. To remind people that albatrosses need further protection.
C. To show people that albatrosses are fascinating seabirds.
D. To tell people that albatrosses are being well protected.

B. It is the father’s duty to take care of their baby.
C. The parents take turns to look after their egg.
D. Baby birds are able to fly two months after birth.

句意:一个人舞动狮头,另一个人舞动狮身和狮尾。根据上文“two performers share one lion costume”及下文“the other swings the lion’s body and tail”可知,这里表示“一个……另一个……”,应用“one ... the other...”结构,句首首字母大写。故填One。
【59题详解】
句意:舞者用不同的方式让狮子的眼睛、头和身体动起来。“eyes”、“head”和“body”是并列关系,都属于狮子身体的部分,所以用and连接。故填and。
【60题详解】
句意:如今,越来越多的年轻人学习舞狮。根据“more and...young people”可知,此处是指越来越多的年轻人;考查more and more +可数名词复数/不可数名词“越来越多的……”,固定搭配。故填more。

Dear Linda,
I’m glad to receive your letter. The Mid-Autumn Festival usually falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It means a lot to Chinese people as it symbolizes reunion and togetherness. During this festival, my family and I usually enjoy mooncakes, appreciate the full moon, and tell the story of Chang’e. Sometimes, we also watch the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala on TV.
