In our society, we often care about what others do, but this can sometimes feel stressful. Especially for public persons, there’s often a hidden pressure. People often show anger toward them on social media (媒体) because of their unintentional (不经意的) decisions.
The Olympic champion (冠军) Quan Hongchan suffered from this. According to reports, Quan returned to Guangzhou after attending an event. During her trip, she stopped by an Apple store to buy a phone for her family. This should have been a simple personal choice, but it quickly drew attention on social media. Some people said she didn’t love our country just because she chose a foreign brand.
This situation raises questions about how society sees famous people and their personal choices. Should athletes be treated so strictly for such decisions? The answer is, of course, no, Quan has the same rights as anyone to make personal decisions, including which products to buy Being a public person doesn’t mean giving up the freedom (自由) to make ordinary choices. As a teenager, she should be allowed to enjoy privacy (隐私) like anyone else.
However, public persons like Quan often suffer from too much attention from the public Since her Olympic win in 2021, Quan’s life has been under a microscope (显微镜) . The media and fans follow her every move. From her family members’ activities to her personal shopping trips, her life has been turned into a public thing. This kind of attention creates big pressure, turning what should be a kind of pride into a kind of stress.
It’s time to consider why the public pay more attention to her personal choices than her real achievements. Quan is an Olympic champion who has brought pride to our country with her athletic skills. Instead of paying too much attention to small matters like her choice of phone, the public should celebrate her hard work in sports and the fame she has won for our country on the world stage. After all, public persons enjoy the same freedom as anyone else to live their lives.
36. What does “hidden pressure” for public persons refer to?
A. People care about them. B. People share their life on social media.
C. They made unintentional decisions. D. Their decisions led to people’s anger.
37. Paragraph 2 is written to ________.
A. give an example B. tell the story of Quan
C. show Quan’s achievements D. draw attention to Quan
38. Which one does the writer disagree with?
A. Quan should be allowed to enjoy privacy.
B. Quan should be treated strictly for her choice.
C. Quan has the right to choose a foreign brand.
D. Quan has the freedom to make ordinary choices.
39. How should we care about public persons?
A Follow their every move. B. Share their life on social media.
C. Honor their achievements. D. Pay attention to their personal choices.
40. What would be the best title for the passage?

A. No way B. I’m sorry C. Just do it D. Sounds bad
【答案】C
【解析】

考查情景交际。No way没有办法,没门;I’m sorry我很抱歉;Just do it只管去做;Sounds bad听起来很糟糕。根据“I’m thinking about joining the school volunteer club. But I’m not sure if I can do it well.”以及“It’s a great chance to help others and improve yourself.”可知,此处是鼓励对方去参加学校志愿者俱乐部,C项符合。故选C。
2. —Do you think the cultural differences will ________ a challenge for us?

A. remain B. support C. behave D. greet
【答案】A
【解析】

考查动词辨析。remain仍然是,保持;support支持,支撑;behave表现,举止;greet打招呼,迎接。根据“Not really. As long as we respect each other, we’ll manage.”可知,文化差异可能会成为一种持续存在的挑战,故用remain,意为“仍然是”。故选A。

—Well, it may be suitable for beginners.
A. complete B. unexpected C. hidden D. general
