One day, Tom’s teacher, Miss Mark, held a class meeting. “There will be a flag day next Saturday. Does anyone want to join this meaningful event?” asked Miss Mark. Tom was interested in raising money for homeless children but he was not brave enough to talk to the strangers, so he kept quiet in his seat.
“Tom, you haven’t sold flags before,” said Miss Mark suddenly. “Would you like to have a try?” Tom was hesitant(犹豫的), but he finally nodded.
On the flag day, Tom and Angela sold flags in a busy street. “Excuse me, could you please buy...” said Angela softly to the first person she met. The man smiled and put a five-dollar coin into Angela’s collection bag. Then she said thanks and put a flag under his shoulder. “I did it!” said Angela happily to Tom. “It’s your turn now.”
Feeling nervous, Tom began to shake. Soon, he saw a young lady walking towards him. The lady was smiling and holding a few coins in her hand. She asked, “Are you selling flags for Fund for the Homeless Children?” Tom’s face became red and he said yes. Then the lady made the donation and Tom gave her a flag. “You made it!” laughed Angela.

It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don’t. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn’t accepted by all people.
Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don’t need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and mathematics need not be taught in detail (详细地) , either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.
Education is well-rounded and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all take an interest in the world.
I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.
56. People with little education usually ________.
A. spend a long time in school B. have a good chance to get a job
C. spend the best years to choose jobs D. have fewer chances to get a good job

B. take an interest in the whole world
C. develop their abilities to make plays
D. learn subjects like language and math
60. The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A. education should make a man improve
B. people can get education in a short time
C. people should be able to get better paying jobs
D. all subjects are so important for a way of living

Drugs come in different forms. However, can you imagine that drugs come in chicken eggs? A team of scientists from England prove that it can come true. They have developed special chickens that lay eggs with drugs inside. These special drugs can help treat some kinds of diseases. Until now, they have made two kinds of drugs. One drug can treat skin cancer and the other can treat a nerve disease (神经性疾病).
Certain drugs are produced by the special chickens inside their egg whites. These drugs are made of proteins (蛋白质) which can be found in animals’ skin, hair, milk and meat. The scientists also use DNA technology to make sure that the drugs are only inside the egg whites. In this way, the chickens can stay healthy.
Besides egg whites, drugs made of proteins come in milk of cows and sheep. Compared with cows and sheep, the special chickens have ascendancy over them. First, they are cheaper to raise. Second, they need less room and grow faster.
These special chickens can pass on their drug - producing ability to their children. So far, five generations of the special chickens have appeared. But scientists may need more time to make the drugs perfect. It’s said that scientists will realize their dream in five to ten years.
61. The special drugs in chicken eggs can now be used to treat ________.
A. lung cancer B. heart disease C. skin cancer D. blood disease
62. Why must the drugs be only in the egg whites?
A. To ensure the chickens keep healthy. B. To produce more egg whites.
C. To cut the cost of raising chickens. D. To make the proteins grow faster.
63. The underlined word “ascendancy” in Paragraph 3 most probably means _________.
A. problem B. effect C. advantage D. demand
64. What can we know from the last paragraph?
A. The drugs have already worked well on patients. B. Scientists will realize their dream within five years.
C. Most chickens have the ability to produce the drugs. D. Scientists are confident about the future of the drugs.

In my life, there was one thing that made me very stressed. Last month, I was told to make an English speech in front of the class. Due to my shyness, I was so worried about it that I couldn’t fall asleep during the night.
To deal with my pressure, I watched English talk shows online carefully and spent hours practicing English loudly in front of the mirror. That day came at last. I felt my heart in my mouth, but I kept telling myself I could be the best. When I finished my speech, I saw the smile on my teacher’s face.
Since then, I’ve realized the best way to deal with stress is to think positively and act bravely.
