Friday nights are pizza nights for most families. That’s the last workday before the weekend. Everyone is quite relaxed and wants to taste the weekend as early as possible. Parents don’t want to spend too much time cooking on Friday, so they buy pizzas.
My parents go to Domino’s on York Street to buy pizzas on their way back home every Friday. We kids all love cheese pizzas. Mom and Dad buy two cheese pizzas for us. They don’t like cheese pizzas. Both of them love meat. Often they buy chicken pizzas for themselves. Sometimes they’d like to try beef or bacon (培根) for a change. The following week they go back to chicken.
Every Friday after dinner the kitchen table is full of pizza boxes. It’s our job to clean the table. We need to put all the boxes in the big bin (垃圾桶) in front of the house. We play “rock, scissors, paper (石头剪刀布游戏)” to see who does the job. I never have good luck. It’s always me.

(23-24八年级下·四川达州·期末)Would you completely trust your friends if you couldn’t see anything? If you are falling, do you believe they will catch you and help you stand up? Our teacher helped us to get the answer.
Our teacher is named Steven. One day, he said that he had a game for us to try. He divided us into two groups. One of the students from the first group, stands in front of us with his eyes closed, and then falls backwards (向后). The second group stand behind him. Before he falls on the floor, they should catch him and not let him get hurt. Most of us were uncomfortable with this. We were afraid that they wouldn’t catch us and we would hit the floor. So we didn’t move. We just stood there and laughed in embarrassment (尴尬).
Finally, one student, a thin, quiet, dark-haired girl called Laura, decided to move. She crossed her arms in front of her body, closed her eyes, and slowly fell backwards. She looked quiet but brave.
For a moment, I was sure she was going to fall on the floor. But before she hit the floor, the other students caught her, held her and finally helped her stand up.
“Whoa!” we were surprised, and also encouraged. The girl was happy, too. Seeing this, Steven smiled and said to the girl, “When you close your eyes, you can’t see anything. You won’t feel safe. The house was about four kilometres (公里) from the station. Every time the children saw a house they asked, “Oh, is this our house?” But it never was. Then they came to the top of a hill, and there was a white house with a green garden and lots of fruit trees. “Here we are!” Mother said.
Everyone hurried (匆忙) to get out of the carriage (四轮马车) — Robert, Anthea, Jane, Cyril, and Martha, the nursemaid (保姆), with the baby. But Mother stood and watched the driver while he carried the boxes into the house.
The children knew that they were going to be happy there. Mother did not like the house very much. But it was deep in the country (乡村) and after two years in London the children thought that it was wonderful. If you live in London and your family is not rich, you get bored (感到厌倦) because you cannot go to shops and theatres. In the country, you can go anywhere and do anything.
Behind the house was a wood and on one side was a gravel pit (砾石坑). A week later, the children found a fairy (精灵) at the gravel pit. But it was different from others.
It happened when Mother had to go and stay with Grandmother, who was ill. Martha stayed with the children.
________ The children did not know what to do. Then Cyril said, “Let’s go to the gravel pit.”
The gravel pit was very large, with grass and wild flowers round the sides at the top. When they got there, the children decided that they would go down into the pit to play in the sand.
“Let’s dig a deep hole,” said Robert.
The others agreed and they all began to dig hard in the sand. But it was a very hot day. Baby went to sleep and Robert, Cyril, and Jane sat down to rest, but Anthea went on working on the hole.

My younger brother Tom and I were watching cartoons at home and my mother was out shopping. I left Tom in the living room and went to get something to drink. As I was getting some orange juice, I heard something break. I quickly ran to see what happened. My mother’s favorite vase was on the floor, in pieces.
“What did you do?” I asked.
“I broke it!” Tom answered. “I’m sorry!”
Knowing that he was afraid, and not wanting him to get in trouble, I did what any sister would do. I tried to help him. I quickly ran to get some glue (胶水). I didn’t know what time my mother was going to be back, so I tried to hurry. I quickly picked up all of the broken pieces and started to glue them together. It took me an hour to finish the job. Then came the real problem.
I did put the vase back together, but I also glued my hair to it!
“My beautiful hair,” I cried. Seeing that there was no way to get my hair off the vase, I cut it, and I cried again. As I was leaving the bathroom, I heard a key turn in the front door.
“Hey guys, I’m back!”
My mother was back! Tom ran to his room, leaving me all by myself. Before I could say a word, my mother became angry and shouted at me. She decided to ground (禁足) me because she thought I broke the vase.
While I was lying on my bed, I understood that what I did for Tom was an act of friendship. I knew that even though Tom and I fought a lot, I was still willing to make a sacrifice (牺牲) for him——my hair and my freedom!
Then there was a knock on my door.
