When I was growing up, my mom often said that no matter what grades I got in school, as long as I did my best, she’d be proud of me. Then she added, “But if you didn’t get an A, I’ll know you didn’t do your best.” She said it with a smile, but I took it seriously: I shouldn’t settle for anything less than perfect. My greatest weakness is that I’m too much of a perfectionist.
Perfectionism is the desire to be 100% perfect. The goal is zero faults and no failures. In an increasingly competitive world, kids face growing pressure from parents to be perfect and severe criticism when they fall short. Every fault is a blow to their self-esteem (自尊). I’ve lived it myself.
When I won the fifth-grade quiz bowl on world explorers, I beat myself up afterward for missing one question. How could I forget that the sea route to India was discovered by da Gama, but not Magellan? When I made the finals of a Mortal Kombat tournament and won a lifetime pass to a local movie theater, I didn’t celebrate. Third place is the second loser. When I won the first prize in a math test, I was disappointed. Only a 98? Not good enough. There was always a voice in the back of my mind whispering that it wasn’t enough and that I could have done better.
It was during my college years that I started to question the value of this perfectionism. I met people who didn’t seem to be weighed down by the same expectations, who accepted their mistakes and saw them as opportunities for growth rather than failures. They taught me that it was okay to be imperfect, that it was human to make mistakes, and that sometimes, the most important lessons come from our failures.
24.What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A.Why the author became a perfectionist. B.The disadvantage of being a perfectionist.
C.How the author got the good grades in school. D.The feeling of being grateful to the author’s mother.
25.What made the author unsatisfied with what had been achieved?
A.Blame from parents. B.Desire to get first prize.
C.Eagerness to be perfect. D.Pressure of competitions.
26.What made the author change the attitude towards perfectionism?
A.Losing expectation to succeed. B.Realizing the harm of being perfect.
C.Learning lessons from other people’s failure. D.Encountering those accepting imperfection.
27.Which column of a magazine may the text be taken from?
A.Parenting Styles. B.Coming-of-Age Stories.
C.People of Achievement. D.Challenges Facing Youth.

Mentally replaying a memory can be helpful for recalling key details, such as picturing the moment you last arrived home to remember where you put your keys. This ability is what psychologists call “mental time travel”. Episodic memory, which is a form of long-term memory for events, is an example of mental time travel. While scientists once thought it was unique to humans, evidence of such memory has been found in animals, such as great apes and mice. Scientists have recently found birds called Eurasian Jays can do it, too.
Eurasian Jays have excellent memory: they stash foods such as nuts and larvae (幼虫) for future consumption, so remembering the place, contents and time is crucial for their survival. They also have complex mental abilities such as object permanence and spatial memory. This made researchers curious to know whether Eurasian Jays might revisit memories like we do.
In the experiment, seven birds watched experimenters place food beneath one cup in a line of identical cups. They were rewarded for later picking the correct cup. This training was repeated multiple times so that the birds could remember the correct cup’s position.
Then the birds were given a different memory assessment in which they saw food placed beneath one of several cups with differently colored shapes or patterns. Ten minutes later, they were brought back to these non-identical cups in a different order. If the bird only remembered what it was trained to recall, it would have been fooled by this switch-up. “But instead, the birds were largely able to access visual details that they hadn’t known they would need,” says James Davies, the lead author of the study. The jays correctly chose the cup with the food 70% of the time based on those visual features. This experiment was a powerful indicator of something like episodic memory because the jays didn’t know colors and patterns would be important when they first saw them.
Next, the researchers hope to get a clearer picture of the jays’ memory abilities by testing their limits. Human episodic memory is quite flexible — it can apply to situations that don’t have to do with food or survival — so the researchers suggest exploring whether Eurasian Jays’ memory abilities are sharp in non-food-related situations as well.
28.What is a feature of “mental time travel”?
A.It benefits temporary memory. B.It’s different from episodic memory.
C.It’s common in the animal kingdom. D.It enables mental scene reconstruction.
29.What does the underlined word “stash” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Digest. B.Share. C.Store. D.Consume.
30.What can be inferred from two experiments about Eurasian Jays?
A.They show flexible memory beyond training. B.They are a good master of color and patterns.
C.They choose correctly based on initial memory. D.They rely on their spatial memory to find food.
31.What do researchers want to explore in future studies?
A.Jays’ specific food preferences. B.Jay’s survival skills in the wild.
C.Jays’ social behavior and memory. D.Jays’ memory ability in non-food contexts.
D
People around the globe have suffered the anxiety of waiting months to find out if their homes have been damaged by wildfires. Now, once the smoke has cleared for aerial photography, researchers have found a way to identify building damage within minutes. Through a system called DamageMap, a team at Stanford University has brought an AI approach to building assessment: Instead of comparing before-and-after photos, they’ve trained a program using machine learning to rely only on post-fire images.
The current method of assessing damage involves people going door-to-door to check every building. While DamageMap is not intended to replace in-person damage assessment, it could be used as a supplementary tool by offering immediate results and providing the exact locations of the affected buildings. The researchers tested it using a variety of satellite and aerial photography with at least 92 percent accuracy.
Most computational systems now cannot efficiently classify building damage because the AI compares post-disaster photos with pre-disaster images that must use the same satellite, camera angle and lighting conditions, which can be expensive to obtain or unavailable. Therefore, DamageMap first uses pre-fire photos to map the area and confirm building locations. Then, the program analyzes post-wildfire images to identify damage through features like blackened surfaces, collapsed roofs or the absence of structures.
Structural damage from wildfires in California is typically divided into four categories: almost no damage, minor damage, major damage or destroyed. Because DamageMap is based on aerial images, the researchers quickly realized the system could not make such detailed assessments and trained the machine to simply determine if there was a fire damage or not.
Because the team used a deep learning technique, their model can continue to be improved by feeding it more data. The researchers said the tool can be applied to any area suffering from wildfires and hope it could also be trained to classify damages from other disasters, such as floods or hurricanes. “So far our results suggest that this can be generalized, and we can keep improving it,” said lead study author Marios Galanis, a graduate student at Stanford’s School of Engineering.
32.What is the advantage of using DamageMap?
A.It helps improve the evaluation efficiency.
B.It operates automatically after self-learning.
C.It analyzes large numbers of disaster photos.
D.It takes the place of the traditional measures.
33.How does DamageMap work?
A.It identifies damage with pre-fire photos.
B.It confirms locations with post-fire photos.
C.It assesses damage through the features of buildings.
D.It maps the fire-affected area through comparing photos.
34.What would the future study focus on according to Marios Galanis?
A.Accuracy improvement. B.A wider range of application.
C.Techniques development. D.A higher speed of machine learning.
35.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The impact of wildfires on local residents.
B.Main challenges to classify structural damage.
C.Possible solutions to identify natural disasters.
D.An AI system for rapid fire damage evaluation.

Don’t Let Personality Types Define You
Personality tests, especially the Myers-Briggs type indicator(MBT), are popular tools that many people use to better understand themselves and their relationships with others. MBTI sorts people into 16 different personality types based on four key categories. Although these tests can provide useful insights, it’s important not to let them define or limit you.
36 . But people are complex. Our personalities can change over time, depending on experiences and growth. What the MBTI test reveals is just a snapshot of one’s preferences, not a complete definition of who you are. For example, if the test labels you as an “introvert” (性格内向的人), you may feel tempted to avoid social communication because you think it’s not in your nature to be outgoing. But you might find that your ability to enjoy social events increases over time. The key is not to accept the label as an unchangeable fact. 37
Similarly, if you are categorized as a “thinking” type, it might lead you to believe that you are always rational 38 Emotional response is also an essential part of human nature, and embracing them can enhance your decision-making process and relationships.
Additionally, many people get caught up in the idea that their “type” limits their careers or personal choices. They might think, for instance, that an “introvert” would not be a good leader. 39 . Many introverts achieve success through careful listening and thoughtful decision-making. Don’t let de MBTI label stop you from pursuing opportunities that feel right for you.
Finally, one of the most important lessons we can learn from the MBTI is that we are not defined by one test or label. 40 . By focusing on our strengths and embracing the full complexity of our personalities, we can lead richer and more fulfilling lives. We are all more than the labels we receive.
A.The reality is quite different.
B.The test results should be seen as a guide, not a limitation.
C.The MBTI system provides a simple way to categorize individuals based on their preferences.
D.But there are countless examples of introverts excelling in these types of roles.
E.You should see it as a starting point for self-reflection and growth.
F.However, it’s essential to understand that both parts of the personality are valuable.
G.The MBTI system can sometimes prevent individuals from realizing their full potential.

Our swim team always relied on the Snack Bar to raise money for meets and equipment, but Coach Abby had bad news: it would be closed for repairs through August, meaning no money for upcoming events. Everyone was worried. “Does this mean our swim team is canceled?” Noah asked. Coach Abby comforted us, saying we’d still practice, but she wasn’t sure how the meets would be funded.
The next morning, practice felt strange. None of us were swimming our best, and even Coach Abby was worried. During a break, Noah suggested, “If we can’t run the Snack Bar, maybe we can think of other ways to raise money. ”
“Good idea. ” said Ruby. She suggested a karaoke sing-along (卡拉 OK) like what her brother did to raise funds for his school singing club. Tamara recommended a bake sale. “A.fall festival would be fun!” I added, thinking we could have water-themed games on grounds by the swimming pool.
At first, Coach Abby hesitated. But when she saw how excited we were, she agreed, “OK! Let’ s go for it!” We quickly began brainstorming ideas for our Support for Pool Party.
“I’ll bring my karaoke machine. ” Ruby offered. “We could make the microphone look like a fish!” someone added. I suggested a “Fun in the Sun” lemonade stand, and everyone jumped in to help. Soon, we had a plan for the best fundraiser ever, complete with a starfish cookie bake sale. We were ready to make it happen! We spent so much time getting everything ready and talking up our fundraiser to everyone we met that we were positive it would be a great success.
The day before our big event, I was squeezing lemons for lemonade when I saw a very dark cloud outside the kitchen window. “Uh-oh! That’s not a rain cloud, is it?” I asked my mom. “Rain would be a disaster! It could ruin everything. ” “You know what they say, ” she answered. “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. ” “Hmm, ” I said.

【答案】17.B 18.B 19.C 20.A
W: The world is getting warmer. According to an analysis by NASA scientists, the average global temperature increases roughly at a rate of 0.15 to 0.20℃ every ten years. What is going to happen if our planet continues to heat up? Well, normally, the average global temperature should be around 35℃ during summer time. When it gets 2℃ higher, the crop output will start to decrease, people will become easy to feel sick, and mass deaths of coral reefs will begin to occur in oceans. When it comes to 39℃ to 41℃, sea water will drown most of the island countries, people will have to choose to grow sunflowers which can survive in salty soil, and oceans will be crowded with dead bodies of sea creatures. At the average global temperature of 42℃, people will get almost nothing from land anymore, and therefore the remaining orders of the modern society will break down eventually. So is it still possible to save us human species from dying out? Well, I don’t know, but if we could begin to do things like using less private cars, unplugging the unused electrical devices, protecting the forests, etc. from now on, maybe we still have a chance.

【答案】28.D 29.C 30.A 31.D

根据第一段“Mentally replaying a memory can be helpful for recalling key details, such as picturing the moment you last arrived home to remember where you put your keys. This ability is what psychologists call “mental time travel”. Episodic memory, which is a form of long-term memory for events, is an example of mental time travel.(在脑海中回放一段记忆对回忆关键细节很有帮助,比如想象你最后一次回家的那一刻,记住你把钥匙放在哪里了。
根据倒数第二段““But instead, the birds were largely able to access visual details that they hadn’t known they would need,” says James Davies, the lead author of the study. The jays correctly chose the cup with the food 70% of the time based on those visual features. This experiment was a powerful indicator of something like episodic memory because the jays didn’t know colors and patterns would be important when they first saw them.(该研究的主要作者詹姆斯·戴维斯说:“相反,鸟类在很大程度上能够获得它们不知道自己需要的视觉细节。”根据这些视觉特征,有70%的情况下,松鸦正确地选择了盛有食物的杯子。这个实验是一个类似情景记忆的强有力的指标,因为松鸦在第一次看到它们时并不知道颜色和图案会很重要)”可知,欧亚松鸦表现出超出训练的灵活记忆。故选A。
根据最后一段“Next, the researchers hope to get a clearer picture of the jays’ memory abilities by testing their limits. Human episodic memory is quite flexible — it can apply to situations that don’t have to do with food or survival — so the researchers suggest exploring whether Eurasian Jays’ memory abilities are sharp in non-food-related situations as well.(接下来,研究人员希望通过测试它们的极限来更清楚地了解松鸦的记忆能力。人类的情景记忆是相当灵活的——它可以适用于与食物或生存无关的情况——所以研究人员建议探索欧亚松鸦的记忆能力是否在与食物无关的情况下也很敏锐)”可知,在未来的研究中,研究人员想要探索欧亚松鸦在非食物情境下的记忆能力。故选D。

36.由上文“Personality tests, especially the Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI), are popular tools that many people use to better understand themselves and their relationships with others. MBTI sorts people into 16 different personality types based on four key categories.(人格测试,尤其是迈尔斯-布里格斯类型指标(MBTI),是许多人用来更好地了解自己和与他人关系的流行工具。MBTI根据四个关键类别将人们分为16种不同的人格类型。)”可知,这里介绍了 MBTI 这种人格测试会将人按四个关键类别分为 16 种不同人格类型,空格处需要对其分类情况进一步说明来衔接后文,且后文“But people are complex.(但人是复杂的。)”进行转折,而C项“The MBTI system provides a simple way to categorize individuals based on their preferences.(MBTI系统提供了一种根据个人偏好对其进行分类的简单方法。)”
37.由上文“The key is not to accept the label as an unchangeable fact.(关键是不要接受标签是不可改变的事实。)”可知, 这里强调不要把标签当作不可改变的事实,空格处要进一步说明对待测试结果应有的正确做法,而E项“You should see it as a starting point for self-reflection and growth.(你应该把它看作是自我反思和成长的起点。)”
38.由上文“Similarly, if you are categorized as a ‘thinking’ type, it might lead you to believe that you are always rational.(同样地,如果你被归类为‘思考’型,这可能会让你认为自己总是理性的。)”可知,这里提及被归为某类型后的片面认知,空格后“Emotional response is also an essential part of human nature, and embracing them can enhance your decision-making process and relationships.(情感反应也是人性的重要组成部分,接纳它们可以增强你的决策过程和人际关系。)” 强调情感的重要性,而F 项“However, it’s essential to understand that both parts of the personality are valuable.(然而,重要的是要明白人格的这两部分都是有价值的。)”
39.由上文“They might think, for instance, that an ‘introvert’ would not be a good leader.(例如,他们可能认为内向的人不会成为好的领导者。)” 表明内向者也能成功,而D项“But there are countless examples of introverts excelling in these types of roles.(但有无数内向者在这些角色中表现出色的例子。)”
40.由上文“Finally, one of the most important lessons we can learn from the MBTI is that we are not defined by one test or label. (最后,我们可以从MBTI中学到的最重要的教训之一是,我们不是由一个测试或标签来定义的。)”可知,这里说明不能被测试或标签定义,空格处要进一步说明对测试结果的正确看法,而B项“The test results should be seen as a guide, not a limitation.(测试结果应该被看作是一种指导,而不是一种限制。)”指出应把测试结果当作指导而非限制,与后文“By focusing on our strengths and embracing the full complexity of our personalities, we can lead richer and more fulfilling lives.(通过关注我们的优势并接纳我们个性的全部复杂性,我们可以过上更丰富、更充实的生活。)”

A Yangge folk dance performed by robots during the Spring Festival Gala of the Year of the Snake on Tuesday night has vowed users of some overseas social media, as the performance, 56 (use) an innovative approach, combined cultural heritage with cutting-edge technology.
In the performance directed by famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou, 16 robots produced by Chinese robotics company Unitree, 57 (dress) in northeastern Chinese style floral padded jackets, performed together with 58 (dance)from China's Xinjiang Art Institute. The humanoid robots can not only smoothly twist their waists and mimic(模仿) human leg-kicking movements, 59 also spin handkerchiefs, displaying extremely skilful actions.
The innovative performance 60 (have) impressed many netizens on overseas social media platforms. "Honestly the full thing is actually quite impressive," one netizen said on Reddit. "I’ve watched the full dance and the way the robot spins those handkerchiefs 61 (be)really impressive," another one posted. "I actually think it's kind of cool. The more you integrate technology into life, the 62 (easy)it is to get people to accept it," another one said.
Those 63 put on the performance on the stage of the Spring Festival Gala were Unitree H1, a humanoid robot product of Unitree. The robots use AI-driven full-body motion control technology, capable 64 achieving a maximum joint torque of 360 N・m. Coupled with 360° panoramic(全景的) depth perception technology, they can 65 (precise) grasp every movement in surroundings. Moreover, through advanced AI algorithms, they can perfectly "understand" music, adjusting movements in real-time according to the music.
56. 答案:using
59. 答案:but
解析:not only...but also...
60. 答案:has
61. 答案:is
63. 答案:who/that
解析:这是一个定语从句,先行词是 Those(那些人,这里指机器人,拟人化表达),在从句中作主语,指人,所以用关系代词 who/that 引导定语从句。
64. 答案:of

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The next day, I arrived at the pool grounds early.

The next day, I arrived at the pool grounds early. People were already starting to arrive, their faces filled with anticipation. The atmosphere was electric with excitement. The lemonade stand was bustling, with people lining up to taste our “Fun in the Sun” special. Tamara’s starfish cookies were a huge hit, disappearing almost as quickly as they were put out. Unluckily, clouds started to gather. Before we knew it, the rain was pouring down, making it difficult for everyone to seek shelter near the pool.
Facing the sudden rain, we were relieved that we had prepared the big umbrellas. Quickly, we set them up over the karaoke machine, lemonade stand, and bake sale tables. Despite the weather, people didn’t seem to mind. They huddled under the umbrellas, continuing to enjoy the activities and support our cause. By the end of the day, we had made more money than we had ever imagined, and everyone left with a smile on their face. It was a reminder that with preparation, creativity, and a positive attitude, even the worst-case scenarios can turn into unforgettable successes.
①开始:start/begin
②寻找:seek/look for
③介意:mind/care about
