8 mins
There are different kinds of plants and animals on the earth
and they get their food in different ways. Food chains are just
used to show who eats what in a very simple way.
21
Food Chains
Here are some examples of food chains.
●A garden food chain might look like this:
22
●Humans can also be part of a food chain. A farm food chain
could look like this:
23
A food chain shows how plants and animals are connected
with each other based on the foods they eat. Food chains are
different depending on the habitat. A habitat is the scientific
name for a place where animals and plants live. Habitats can be
very different from each other, so a garden food chain would
be very different from a farm food chain.
24
Food chains usually start with a green plant, such as grass
or a tree. This is because plants can directly change sunlight
into energy that they can use for themselves. These plants are
called “producers”, and they create or produce their own food.
They use this food to grow leaves, flowers, fruit and seeds.
25
Food Chain Disruption(中断)
When the balance(平衡) of a food chain is broken, it
may result in a bad situation. An example is overfishing. Over
the years, humans have been catching too many fish at a quick
speed, leaving not enough to keep a healthy population. Because
of this, other animals, such as turtles, are endangered. So,
humans should make sure our activities don’t harm the
ecosystem.
26
The writer explains “food chains” by
________.( )
D
A. telling stories B. asking questions
C. listing numbers D. giving examples

chains.”
What can be best put in “▲” in the second food
chain?( )
A
A. chickens B. trees C. sunlight D. flowers
A food chain…based on the foods
they eat.”
28
3.What can we know from the passage?( )
B
A. Food chains usually start with human beings.
B. Different habitats lead to different food chains.
C. A garden food chain may be the same as a forest food
chain.
D. Plants are called “producers” because they produce food for
others.
29
根据“...so a garden food chain would
be very different from a farm food chain”可知,因为生活环
30
4.The writer mainly wants to ________ in the last
paragraph.( )
C
A. stop people from catching fish
B. show us what food chain disruption is
C. ask people to keep the balance of the ecosystem
D. tell us how many endangered animals there are
So, humans should make sure our
activities don’t harm the ecosystem.”
