The Swiss extreme skiing pioneer became the first to successfully rush down the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope (斜坡) — with more than 200 turns, at speeds close to freefall on France’s Aiguille de Blaitière mountain in 1967. Locals didn’t trust that he’d really done it until a plane flew over the mountain and took photos of his ski tracks. Nicknamed the “skier of the impossible”, Saudan looked for slopes from the Himalayas to the Alps, often reaching the tops by helicopter. But in 1982, he climbed for 25 days to reach the 26,500-foot summit (峰顶) of Pakistan’s Gasherbrum I, searching for undeveloped areas in its natural state. “The first to dare something are the real adventurers,” he said in 2016. “It’s the first that matters.” Raised on a farm in the Alps, Saudan didn’t have the resources to train as a competitive skier, and worked as a laborer and truck driver before becoming a ski instructor. Teaching through icy winters in Scotland helped prepare him for deadly slopes. After skiing the Spencer Couloir, he spent twenty years “looking for greater challenges and testing new methods,” said The Washington Post. He developed a new skiing style and introduced equipment innovations for steep slopes, but ignored safety measures as he shot down Oregon’s Mount Hood, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, and Nepal’s Dhaulagiri. Saudan completed his last major journey in 1986 by skiing down Mount Fuji on bare rocks, walking away without a single cut. He “spent his life challenging gravity, avalanches (雪崩), and obituary (讣告) writers,” said The New York Times. He insisted that mental preparation helped keep fear cornered, yet death was never far from his mind. “There’s really only one way out,” he said: “Don’t fall down.” 24. How did people react to Saudan’s achievement on the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope? A. They considered it as a fact at once. B. They were not aware of it completely. C. They thought of him as a skiing pioneer. D. They doubted it till evidence (证据) arrived. 25 Which of the following can best describe Saudan? A. Adventurous and devoted. B. Brave and generous. C. Creative but frightened. D. Reserved but famous. 26. Why did Saudan go skiing? A. To test new skiing equipment. B. To push himself to new limits. C. To document adventures for fame. D. To escape his past life as a laborer. 27. What does The New York Times imply about Saudan? A. His skiing methods were widely accepted. B. His achievements were often questioned. C. He faced extreme dangers in his career. D. He was careful during his journeys. C Does technology replace more jobs than it creates? What is the balance between these two things? Until now, that has not been completely measured. However, a new research project led by MIT economist David Autor has developed an answer, at least for U. S. history since 1940. The study uses new methods to examine how many jobs have been lost because of machine automation (自动化), and how many jobs have been created through augmentation (扩增), in which technology creates new chances and tasks. In this research, Autor and his workmates studied about 35,000 jobs, recording how they appear over time. That led them to find that technology has replaced more U. S. jobs than it has created, particularly since 1980. “Clearly, from 1980 to the present, there is a faster rate of automation and a slower rate of augmentation than in the former 40 years,” says Autor. From 1940 to 1980, for example, jobs like elevator operator and typesetter (排字工人) were getting automated. But at the same time, more workers filled roles such as shipping and receiving clerks, buyers, department heads and industrial engineers. From 1980 to 2020, the number of machinists (机械工) dropped because of automation, while operations and systems researchers enjoyed growth. Finally, the research suggests that the negative effects of automation on employment were more than twice as great in the 1980-2020 period as in the 1940-1980 period. There was a more positive change in the effect of augmentation on employment in 1980-2020 compared to 1940-1980. Automation and augmentation often happen within the same industries. Within the same large company, there may be fewer machinists but more systems researchers. “Technology is really making a difference,” Autor says. “It may substitute some expert knowledge or skills, but may add decision-making tasks. It takes a while to figure them out.” 28. What does Autor’s study focus on? A. The key to searching for a job. B. The solutions to taking up new tasks. C. The influence of new technology on jobs. D. The application of machines to industry. 29. How does the author prove his idea in paragraph 3? A. By listing figures. B. By raising questions. C. By telling stories. D. By giving examples. 30 What does the underlined word “substitute” in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Depend on. B. Take the place of. C. Take control of. D. Concentrate on. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. Are Jobs More Challenging or More Friendly? B. Are New Technologies Job Killers or Creators? C. Which Is Better, Automation or Augmentation? D. Who Are More Efficient, Humans or Machines? D A build-it-yourself solar still (蒸馏器) is one of the best ways to get drinking water in areas where water is not readily available. Developed by two doctors in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it’s an excellent water collector. Unfortunately, you must carry the necessary objects with you, since it’s all but impossible to find natural objects in the open air. The only objects required, though, are a 5’ × 5’ sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube (管子;吸管), and a container — perhaps just a drinking cup — to catch the water. These pieces can be put into a little pack. To build a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet across and three feet deep. Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher’s productivity. Place your cup in the deepest part of the hole. Then lay the tube in place so that one end rests all the way in the cup and the rest of the line runs up — and out — the side of the hole. Next, cover the hole with the plastic sheet, securing the edges (固定边缘) of the plastic with dirt and weighting the sheet’s center down with a rock. The plastic should now form a cone (圆锥体) with 45-degree-angled (角度) sides. The low point of the sheet must be centered directly over, and no more than three inches above, the cup. The solar still works by creating a greenhouse under the plastic. Ground water evaporates (蒸发) and collects on the sheet until small drops of water form, run down the material and fall off into the cup. When the container is full, you can drink the water through the tube, and won’t have to break down the still every time you need a drink. 32. Which is not needed to build a solar still according to the first paragraph? A. A sheet of plastic. B. A drinking tube. C. A container. D. A little pack. 33 What does the underlined phrase “the water catcher” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. The tube. B. The still. C. The hole. D. The cup. 34. What is the last step of building a working solar still? A. Dig a hole of a certain size. B. Put the cup in place. C. Weight the sheet’s center down. D. Cover the hole with the plastic sheet. 35. When a solar still works, drops of water come into the cup from ________. A. the plastic tube B. outside the hole C. the open air D. beneath the sheet Life is filled with numerous victories and downfalls; what matters is how you tackle each situation. It all started when I heard about a really cool concert that all my friends were excited to go to. I really wanted to be a part of them. So, I gathered my courage and asked my parents if I could buy a ticket and go with my friends. The ticket was not expensive. So I thought they would agree to let me go to the concert. However, when I told them about the concert, they started asking questions like, “Who will be there? How will you get home late at night?” I tried to explain that my friends and I had it all figured out, but they didn’t believe me. My mom said, “Anderson, we are worried about your safety. And we don’t think it’s a good idea.” I felt very disappointed. I said in anger, “But everyone else is going! It’s not fair that you won’t let me have any fun.” My dad then replied to me, “It’s not about fun, son. We need to think about your safety.” I just couldn’t understand why they couldn’t see it from my perspective (角度). I got really angry and shouted, “You never let me do anything I want! You don’t care about my feelings at all!” With these words, I stormed off to my room and slammed (关上) the door as hard as I could, feeling hurt and misunderstood. A few days later, on my fifteenth birthday morning, I woke up, only to find a basketball on my bedside table, which was what I’d been looking forward to. Next to it was a sweet note from my parents, reading, “Happy birthday, Anderson!” It was a nice surprise. Though I still had a mix of feelings, yet I also felt sorry about how I had behaved before. That evening, my parents took me out. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After dinner, when we got home, I knew I had to say sorry to them. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2024-2025学年高一上学期学科素养监测试题 英语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. What seems to be the woman’s problem? Comedy Hour owns comedy clubs in several countries that are run just for people aged 13–20. They’re just as familiar with working in adult comedy clubs as they are working with children. The Comedy Hour company was set up by John Winterson. In fact, his act quickly became so popular that he soon found lots of other comedians who wanted to join his company. If you’re having a party at home, Comedy Hour can come and perform for you there at the party. Your very own comedian will also help you to tell your guests some jokes and silly stories and they can join in, too, if they want. It’ll be fun and very different from any party you’ve ever had before. Here at Comedy Hour, it’s not just about the adults telling jokes. We also offer young people the chance to perform. But we’ve yet to find someone who can do that without preparation, so we’ve set up the world’s first Comedy Classes to teach young people how to tell jokes on stage. At the moment our classes are only monthly, but we’re planning to start a number of others over the coming year. So what are you waiting for? 25. Which of the following can best describe Saudan? D 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第一段中“The Swiss extreme skiing pioneer became the first to successfully rush down the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope (斜坡) — with more than 200 turns, at speeds close to freefall on France’s Aiguille de Blaitière mountain in 1967. Locals didn’t trust that he’d really done it until a plane flew over the mountain and took photos of his ski tracks. (这位瑞士极限滑雪先锋于1967年,在法国Aiguille de Blaitière峰上,首次成功冲下Spencer峡谷55度的斜坡——在下滑过程中完成了200多个转弯,速度近乎自由落体。直到一架飞机飞越山峰并拍下他的滑雪轨迹,当地人才相信他真的做到了)”可知,人们是直到有了证据才相信Saudan的这一成就。故选D项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“Nicknamed the “skier of the impossible”, Saudan looked for slopes from the Himalayas to the Alps, often reaching the tops by helicopter. But in 1982, he climbed for 25 days to reach the 26,500-foot summit (峰顶) of Pakistan’s Gasherbrum I, searching for undeveloped areas in its natural state. (Saudan被称为“挑战不可能滑雪者”,他从喜马拉雅山到阿尔卑斯山四处寻觅雪坡,常常乘坐直升机抵达山顶。然而在1982年,他历经25天的攀登,才登上巴基斯坦加舒尔布鲁木Ⅰ峰海拔26500英尺的顶峰,只为探寻处于自然状态的未开发区域)”可知,Saudan一直在寻找各种极具挑战性的斜坡去滑雪,还攀登高山寻找未开发区域,说明他极具冒险精神;再根据第二段中“After skiing the Spencer Couloir, he spent twenty years “looking for greater challenges and testing new methods,” said The Washington Post. (据《华盛顿邮报》报道,在滑过Spencer峡谷后,他花了二十年时间“寻找更大的挑战并试验新方法”)”可知,他致力于滑雪挑战和创新,体现出他对滑雪的热爱和投入。因此,用“冒险且专注”描述他最合适。故选A项。 根据第一段中““The first to dare something are the real adventurers,” he said in 2016. “It’s the first that matters.” (“敢于第一个尝试的人才是真正的冒险家,”他在2016年说道。“重要的是成为第一个。”)”和第二段中“After skiing the Spencer Couloir, he spent twenty years “looking for greater challenges and testing new methods,” said The Washington Post. (据《华盛顿邮报》报道,在滑过Spencer峡谷后,他花了二十年时间“寻找更大的挑战并试验新方法”)”可知,Saudan一心想成为第一个尝试的人,成为真正的冒险家,总是不断挑战自己。由此可知,他滑雪是为了突破新的极限。故选B项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“He “spent his life challenging gravity, avalanches (雪崩), and obituary (讣告) writers,” said The New York Times. (《纽约时报》称,他“一生都在挑战重力、雪崩和讣告作者”)”可推知,他在滑雪生涯中面临着极端的危险。故选C项。 C Does technology replace more jobs than it creates? 30. What does the underlined word “substitute” in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Depend on. C 29. D 30. B 31. 根据文章第二段“The study uses new methods to examine how many jobs have been lost because of machine automation (自动化), and how many jobs have been created through augmentation (扩增), in which technology creates new chances and tasks. (这项研究使用了新的方法来研究机器自动化导致了多少工作岗位的流失,以及技术创造了多少新的机会和任务,从而创造了多少工作岗位。)”可知,奥托的研究重点是新技术对就业的影响。故选C。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“ ‘Clearly, from 1980 to the present, there is a faster rate of automation and a slower rate of augmentation than in the former 40 years,’ says Autor. 根据文章最后一段“Automation and augmentation often happen within the same industries. Within the same large company, there may be fewer machinists but more systems researchers 根据文章第一段“Does technology replace more jobs than it creates? What is the balance between these two things? Until now, that has not been completely measured. However, a new research project led by MIT economist David Autor has developed an answer, at least for U. S. history since 1940. (科技取代的工作比创造的工作多吗?这两者之间的平衡是什么?到目前为止,这一点还没有得到完全的衡量。然而,麻省理工学院(MIT)经济学家戴维•奥托尔(David Autor)领导的一项新研究项目给出了答案,至少是针对1940年以来的美国历史。)”以及全文内容可知,本文主要说明的是技术的发展对就业的影响;讨论了新技术是否取代了更多的工作还是创造了更多的工作。故选B。 D A build-it-yourself solar still (蒸馏器) is one of the best ways to get drinking water in areas where water is not readily available. 33. What does the underlined phrase “the water catcher” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. The tube. B. The still. C. The hole. D. The cup. 34. What is the last step of building a working solar still? A. Dig a hole of a certain size. B. Put the cup in place. C. Weight the sheet’s center down. D. Cover the hole with the plastic sheet. 35. When a solar still works, drops of water come into the cup from ________. A. the plastic tube B. outside the hole C. the open air D. beneath the sheet 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第一段中“The only objects required, though, are a 5’ × 5’ sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube (管子;吸管), and a container — perhaps just a drinking cup — to catch the water. (These pieces can be put into a little pack.(不过,唯一需要的东西是一张5英尺×5英尺的透明或略呈乳白色的塑料片,6英尺长的塑料管,以及一个容器——也许只是一个饮水杯——用来接水。这些东西可以装进小包里)”可知,建造太阳能蒸馏器所需物品为一个塑料片、一根饮用管和一个容器,小包是用来装这些物品的,并非建造蒸馏器本身所需的物品。故选D项。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。文章围绕建造太阳能蒸馏器来获取水展开,结合第二段中“To build a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet across and three feet deep. Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher’s productivity. (要建造一个工作蒸馏器,使用锋利的棍子或岩石挖一个4英尺宽,3英尺深的洞。尽量在潮湿的地方挖洞,以提高捕水器的效率)”可推知,画线部分的“捕水器”指代前一句中提到的太阳能蒸馏器,其作用是收集水。故选B项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Next, cover the hole with the plastic sheet, securing the edges (固定边缘) of the plastic with dirt and weighting the sheet’s center down with a rock. (接下来,用塑料片盖住这个洞,用泥土固定塑料片的边缘,用石头压住塑料片的中心)”可知,建造可使用的太阳能蒸馏器的最后一步是压住塑料片的中心。故选C项。 【35题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The solar still works by creating a greenhouse under the plastic. Ground water evaporates (蒸发) and collects on the sheet until small drops of water form, run down the material and fall off into the cup. (太阳能蒸馏器仍然通过在塑料下面制造温室来工作。地下水蒸发并聚集在薄片上,直到形成小水滴,顺着材料流下,落到杯子里)”可知,水滴是从塑料片下面进入杯子的。故选D项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分. 满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Life is filled with numerous victories and downfalls; what matters is how you tackle each situation. We went to dinner at my favorite restaurant. As we sat at the table, my mom started the conversation by saying, “Anderson, we know you’re growing up and have your own ideas. We just want what’s best for you. We’re sorry if we seem too strict.” Then, my dad added, “We want you to be happy and safe. We know you dream of having a basketball of your own, so we bought one for you.” Realizing how much they truly cared, I felt a sense of warmth and also much regret for my outburst. After dinner, when we got home, I knew I had to say sorry to them. I took a deep breath, walked up to my parents and said, “Mom, Dad, I’m sorry for the way I acted. I should have listened to you and understood that you were just worried about me. I didn’t think about your feelings.” As I said those words, I felt a great weight being lifted off my shoulders. My parents hugged me and said they forgave me. Since then, I have became more aware of how important it is to communicate with them and to appreciate their love for me. 词汇激活 行为类 ①减轻:lift/relieve ②考虑:think about/consider ③意识到:become aware of /realize/come to realize 情绪类 ①快乐:happy/pleased ②感激:appreciate/show gratitude to 【点睛】[高分句型1] Realizing how much they truly cared, I felt a sense of warmth and also much regret for my outburst.
