Beth moved a little closer to him to listen to the conversation.
“They don’t need to see or speak to anyone.” continued Laurence. “I’m always in my study in another part of the house.”
He stood up and went to the door.
“I must go now, but please tell the young ladies what I said. Goodbye!”

“I’m Beth,” she said shyly. “I love music. I’d love to come but don’t want to disturb (打扰) you.”
Mr. Laurence smiled at her.
“The library is usually empty, my dear.” he said gently (轻声地). “Come and play when you like.”

Zang can make buns in many different shapes such as cute rabbits and lucky bags. “My huabobo is made of milk, egg, sugar and flour (面粉).” she said. “All the colors are from something natural such as spinach (菠菜) for the color green and pumpkin for orange.” she added.

Some pictures made by AI (人工智能) look really fantastic. But do you think they can win a prize in a big art show? That’s exactly what happened in real life when Jason Michael Allen used an AI program named Midjourney to create a picture called Theatre D’opera Spatia (French for “Space Opera Theater”) and won a prize in the 2023 Colorado State Fair’s art competition.
However, many artists were unhappy about the news. They said it was just a picture generated (生成) by AI and there would be no way for a robot to take home the prize! Some even said Mr. Allen, the man behind this work, was cheating (作弊) in the competition as he used an AI program to create this work. They wondered why anyone would pay money for pictures if anyone could just make them with AI.
Mr. Allen replied that his work was always under the name “Jason M. Allen via Midjourney” and that it was created with AI, but he never lied to anyone about where this work came from. “________” he said. “I won, and I didn’t break any rules.”
Some artists agreed with Mr. Allen and spoke for him, saying that using AI to create an art piece was no different from using nice paints or special brushes. It would still take a person’s imagination and creativity to come up with a cool idea for a picture.
But some other artists still showed their worries. What if robots take all the art jobs in the future? Who will buy their paintings then?
Mr. Allen said he understood the worries of the artists who were afraid to lose their jobs to AI painting tools, but they shouldn’t be upset at the artists who use Midjourney to make art. Instead, what they should be angry at should be the companies (公司) that use AI painting tools to take the place of human artists. “The problem isn’t in the technology (技术). It’s in the people.” he added.

C. I want to share the prize with all of you. D. I’m terribly sorry and I won’t do it again.
34. What is the best title of the passage?
A. A study about AI painting tools
B. Theatre D’opera Spatia, a Great Work by AI
C. An AI-generated Picture Won. Cheating or Not?
D. Midjourney, A Great Helper in Creating Art Work
35. How does Allen feel about the artists who are afraid to lose jobs to AI?

①Do you have difficulty sleeping or sleep too much in autumn and winter months? Do you feel low or sad when days get grayer and colder? Maybe you’re just feeling upset or worried in darker days like many others. But in some worse cases, some people may even have seasonal affective disorder, or SAD.
②Kelly Rohan, an expert on SAD from the University of Vermont, says SAD is much more serious than “winter blues”. It’s a kind of clinical depression (临床性抑郁) that comes and goes with the seasons. It mostly starts in the late autumn or early winter and goes away in the spring and summer. People with SAD often have problems sleeping or sleep too much and lose interest in activities they once enjoyed. They also feel sad and even hopeless.
③Scientists now don’t have a full understanding of why SAD happens. Johns Hopkins University said that less natural light during the autumn and winter months may disrupt (打乱) the body clock and the making of some hormones (荷尔蒙). This disruption can lead to depression.
④Simply going outside can help with SAD, Dr. Yan said. Even though it looks a little gray, the quality of light on a winter morning will still be better than what you can get in your home.
⑤Sometimes, people with SAD need medical help such as Light therapy (光疗法). It helps to balance (平衡) hormones. People with SAD sit in front of a light therapy box, which mimics (模仿) outdoor light, for about 30 minutes every day right when they wake up.
⑥C. B. T., another common and useful way to help people with SAD, is a kind of talk therapy to change wrong or unhelpful ways of thinking. If you say things like “I can’t stand winter”, Dr. Rohan said, the therapist will try to help you think this way: “I like summer better than winter.” The change in the way of thinking can make a big difference.
⑦Besides. according to experts, healthy ways of living such as sleeping early, exercising often, and eating well, can also help people deal with SAD.
36. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling stories. B. By asking questions. C. By giving numbers. D. By giving examples.
37. According to the passage, which may be the least useful to help a friend with SAD?
A. Going to a doctor to receive Light therapy.
B. Having a walk together in the park in the morning.
C. Watching movies together on the sofa all day long.
D. Playing basketball together outdoors after school every day.
38. Which shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
39. Who is the passage most probably for?
A. Doctors who help people with SAD.
B. Scientists who have a full understanding of SAD.
C. Small kids who are learning about the changes of seasons.
D. People who are unfamiliar with SAD and may be experiencing symptoms.

例文
From: Li Hua
To: Zhang Ming
Subject: Ask for advice
Dear Zhang Ming,
Thank you for asking me for advice. Firstly, I suggest that you join some clubs so that you can make friends with classmates who share common interests with you. At the same time, you should also take the initiative to make friends with your classmates.
You asked me how to learn Chinese well. Here are my suggestions. First, you can keep a diary in Chinese every day. Because the purpose of learning Chinese is to use it. If you can practice your Chinese writing, you will certainly improve the level of Chinese. Second, you have to take Chinese lessons. You can learn some basic grammar and general knowledge from the class. Third, you must be interested in Chinese, because interest is the best teacher. Fourth, you can listen to some Chinese songs and watch some Chinese TV and books.
I hope that my suggestions will help you.
Yours,
Li Hua
