The key to performing well on exam day is effective preparation, so plan your revision strategy well in advance. Here are some tips you might find useful. Try not to study too much the evening before an exam. What you certainly mustn’t do is study all night. It’s really important to try and get a good night’s sleep so that you’re fresh and ready for the exam. Remember to eat well and drink plenty of water. Work out how many questions or sections you will be required to answer and how much time you have so that you can work out how much time to allocate to the different parts of the exam. Draw up a rough timetable so that you know when you should be finishing one part and going on to another. Arrive promptly for the exam, but maybe not too early. Do crossword puzzles, take alternate routes when driving, volunteer at a local school or community organization, socialize regularly. Social interaction helps ward off depression and stress. Look for opportunities to get together with loved ones, friends, and others, especially if you live alone. Sleep well, sleep plays an important role in helping you consolidate your memories so you can recall them down the road. Make getting enough sleep a priority. Eat a healthy diet. I taught home economics for over 40 years and I’m now retired, but do bed and breakfast, and cook privately in other people’s homes. Together with our grandchildren, this keeps me busy. The kitchen has a lot of glass and exposed steel work, which gives it a contemporary, almost industrial feel, which is combined with more traditional elements like the cabinetry (橱柜). We built the kitchen extension to take advantage of the location and views of the garden and beyond. It has carefully placed picture windows, which provide ever-changing views as the seasons continue. We decided to move the kitchen from one end of the barn (仓库) to the next, in order to take advantage of the views. Our architect creatively transformed our basic concept by turning it 90 degrees to include a large glass wall, which we hadn’t thought of. I am always cooking, so I wanted plenty of space, and the ability to entertain on a large scale(大范围) as well as somewhere for the two of us to eat. I love the size, the natural light and the peace and quiet, together with the amazing outlook. We have a large family and the open nature of the kitchen and outdoor terrace make it great for entertaining -but the most relaxing moment is sitting with a cup of tea and, Bill, our dog. I also enjoy the early mornings, watching the sunrise when no one else is up. I particularly love festivals in spring when all the family is home. There are more than 23,000 tulou in Yongding, which became well-known after 46 were given World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2008. “The structures were awarded because they are exceptional examples of a building of tradition and function demonstrating a particular type of communal (共有的) living and defensive organization, and, in terms of their harmonious relationship with their environment, an outstanding example of human settlement,” UNESCO said. The giant multi-storied tulou were built with wood and mud walls. Constructed from the 15th to 20th centuries, these massive communal homes were sited based on feng shui principles, which claim to use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their environment. Tulou are also purposefully resting amid tea, tobacco, rice plantations and abundant forests of pine and bamboo. Throughout history, tulou residents have mostly been Hakka — migrants in southern China. Population pressures created conflict between the Hakka and their neighbors, so they built their homes to double as defending. The buildings are mainly four or five stories high. The first floor serves as the kitchen, the second is used for grain storage and the upper floors act as living areas. The structures are mainly symmetrical (对称的), and their defensive features include ironclad gates, escape tunnels, narrow openings for weapons under the dark-tiled roofs, and a water well. For their defensive function, only rooms on the third floor and higher have windows, which are very small. With sufficient food, the residents could survive in the event of a lengthy conflict. Communal living is integrity to these villages, where the closed wall design boosts social interaction. Residents gather in the courtyard for ceremonies such as ancestor worship and weddings. Tulou is such an extraordinary piece of architecture, living up to the title given by UNESCO. 28. What do we know about tulou? A. Over 23,000 tulou were given World Heritage status. B. Among 23,000 tulou, only 46 became famous globally. C. Tulou is the most outstanding Chinese human settlement. D. They’re exceptional buildings of tradition and function. 29. What is most important for residents during a long period of conflict? A. Enough food. B. Escape tunnels. C. Small windows. D. Defensive weapons. 30. What is probably the author’s attitude to the protection of tulou? A. Unconcerned. B. Favorable. C. Negative. D. Unclear. 31. Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A. But new research has suggested many parents may not even notice many of the lies their children tell them. Psychologists have discovered that most parents are over-confident in their children's honesty and this may impair their ability to discover a lie. The findings may help to explain why some parents seem to be willing to let their children get away with(未受惩罚) almost anything even in the face of the evidence. They say parents suffer from a“truth bias(偏见)” with their own youngsters, but when faced with lies from other people's children, they have less difficulty telling if a statement is true or not. Dr Angela Evans, a psychologist at Brock University in Canada, said,“The close relationship that parents share with their own children may lead to parents failing to detect their children's lies. Parents' truth bias may result in parents being less doubtful about their children, allowing them to successfully cheat them.”Most children are thought to start lying as early as two years old but start telling more believable lies at around the age of four years old. Learning how to lie is considered as a key part of cognitive(认知的) and social development in children. But many parents are shocked when their children start lying to them. In their study, Dr Evans and her colleagues filmed 108 children aged between 8 and 16 as they performed a test after being asked not to look at the answers. They were then asked afterwards if they had looked, with 50 truthfully denying looking, 49 lying about looking and 9 admitting to looking. Videos of those denying looking were then shown to 152 parents of children aged 8 to 16, 80 of whom had children who had taken part in the test. The researchers found that the parents were less able to spot lies told by their own children than by other people's children. 32. What does the underlined word“impair”in Paragraph 2 mean? A. show B. develop C. damage D. recognize 33. When lying to their parents, children can't be easily found because ________. A. their parents pretend not to see the lies B. their parents aren't prepared for the lies C. they are very good at hiding their lies D. they know how to lie to their parents 34. What does Dr Evans want to find about children's lying? A. What makes parents lose trust in their children B. What causes children to tell lies to their parents C. What makes parents fail to see their children's lies D. What affects children's relations with their parents 35. What can be inferred from Dr Evans's study in the last two paragraphs? A. Parents tend to protect their own children B. Lying is a part of children's development C. Children aged 8 to 16 are very likely to tell lies D. Parents can judge lies told by children of others more easily 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第一段“But new research has suggested many parents may not even notice many of the lies their children tell them.(但新的研究表明,许多父母甚至可能没有注意到他们的孩子对他们说的许多谎言)” 以及这个单词的上半句“Psychologists have discovered that most parents are over-confident in their children's honesty(心理学家发现,大多数父母对孩子的诚实过于自信)”由此可知父母可能会忽视自己的孩子说谎,由此推断“this may impair their ability to discover a lie. ”意为这可能会破坏或者削弱父母发现孩子说谎的能力,故猜测impair意为“削弱,破坏”, A. show展示;B. develop开发;C. damage损坏;D. recognize认出,故选C。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Psychologists have discovered that most parents are over-confident in their children's honesty and this may impair their ability to discover a lie. The findings may help to explain why some parents seem to be willing to let their children get away with(未受惩罚) almost anything even in the face of the evidence.(心理学家发现,大多数父母对孩子的诚实过于自信,这可能会削弱他们发现谎言的能力。这些发现可能有助于解释为什么一些父母似乎愿意让他们的孩子侥幸逃脱,即使面对证据。)”和第四段“The close relationship that parents share with their own children may lead to parents failing to detect their children's lies. (父母与孩子之间的亲密关系可能会导致父母无法察觉孩子的谎言)”等内容可知父母对孩子过于自信,不愿意接受孩子说谎的事实,父母和孩子关系亲密,一般无法察觉孩子的谎言,即他们对孩子说谎的事实没有做好心理准备。故选B。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Dr Angela Evans, a psychologist at Brock University in Canada, said, “The close relationship that parents share with their own children may lead to parents failing to detect their children's lies. Parents' truth bias may result in parents being less doubtful about their children, allowing them to successfully cheat them.”( 加拿大布鲁克大学的心理学家安吉拉·埃文斯博士说:“父母与孩子之间的亲密关系可能会导致父母无法察觉孩子的谎言。父母的真相偏见可能会导致父母减少对孩子的怀疑,从而让他们成功地欺骗孩子。”)”可知,他想要发现父母不能成功识别孩子谎言的原因,故选C。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Videos of those denying looking were then shown to 152 parents of children aged 8 to 16, 80 of whom had children who had taken part in the test. The researchers found that the parents were less able to spot lies told by their own children than by other people's children.(随后,研究人员将那些否认自己偷看的孩子的视频展示给152名8岁至16岁孩子的父母看,其中的80人的孩子也参加了测试。研究人员发现,父母辨别自己孩子的谎言的能力不如辨别别人孩子的谎言的能力)”可推断,父母判断别人的孩子说谎比判断自己孩子说谎更容易,故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Fall Off a Skateboard Safely Skateboarding is very popular exercise. 【36题详解】 根据上文“In skateboarding, falling is a big part. It’s unavoidable.”(在滑板运动中,摔倒是一个很大的部分。这是不可避免的。)引出话题,提到滑板运动摔倒是不可避免的。以及下文具体提到的避免摔倒的方法,由此可知,空格处内容应为有一些建议可以避免严重的伤害。结合选项F项You can avoid serious injury with following practical tips.(下面这些实用的建议可以避免严重的伤害。) 【37题详解】 根据上文“If you can, roll with the fall—land on your shoulder and let the force of the fall play itself out with the roll.”(如果可以的话,用你的肩膀翻滚,让摔倒的力量随着翻滚发挥出来。) It will hurt a little, but not so bad.(会有点疼,但没那么严重。) 【38题详解】 根据上文“This is where you try something thrilling and the board goes wrong and you catch yourself running.”(在这里你可以尝试一些刺激的事情,然后滑板出了问题,你发现自己在跑。) 以及下文“But if you do this right, you’ll get out of a lot of falls!”(但是如果你做对了,你就不会摔很多跤了!) It takes some getting used to.(这需要一些时间来适应。) 故选A项。 【39题详解】 根据上文“Teach yourself to always fall to your knees and slide down the ramp.”(教会自己总是双膝跪地,从斜坡上滑下去。) 以及下文“Just run up the side of a ramp, drop to your knees and then slide down. Practice like this for a while to get it in your head.”(跑上斜坡,跪在地上,然后滑下去。 You can actually practice this and it is fun too.(你可以练习这个,也很有趣。) 该段下文“Your instincts(直觉) when you fall are to throw your hands out. But you shouldn’t do that when there’s concrete below you. You could break your wrists. You can buy wrist guards for skateboarding.”(当你跌倒时,你的本能是把手伸出来。 Learn never to catch yourself with your hands.(学会永远不要用手抓住自己。) Clayton Guy, a 62-year-old teacher from Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Arizona, was in trouble over the cost of his wife’s important heart surgery. “You should go for it,” Artie said, giving my shoulder a squeeze as we stood gazing at the poster. ‘Cinderella — auditions (试镜) this Thursday after school,’ the words proclaimed. “Me?” My voice came out as a frightened squeak. “Come on, Amy. You probably know the entire play off by heart. You are the best person for Cinderella.” he encouraged. I knew he was joking, but the truth was, I could tell you every single line (台词) in the play. When we reached the hall on Thursday, I began to wish I hadn’t signed up to be Cinderella. It was easier to feel hopeful several days ago when my name was the only one on the sign-up sheet. Since then, seven other girls have added their own names to the list, including Sherry Anderson, the head cheerleader Luckily, we were given a moment to practice before the auditions began. “Good,” Mr Cordoza said approvingly as he stopped by and listened to my practice. I felt a glimmer of hope. “Now let’s see how you get on performing on the stage in front of everyone.” He clapped his hands for attention, signaling the start of the auditions. Sherry Anderson was up first. She showed great confidence as she tossed her long blonde hair and recited her lines. Although she lacked an understanding of the lines, her performance was attractive. Then it was my turn. As I climbed the stairs to the stage, I tripped, nearly falling flat on my face. I felt my cheeks burning. “When you’re ready,” Mr Cordoza said, sounding impatient. “Sorry,” I mumbled. I tried to calm my breathing, but the nerves tightened in my throat. “I...I…” I stuttered. ‘Speak up Amy, can’t hear you!’ jeers and whistles came from the back of the hall. I could feel that my performance was a disaster. Even Sherry’s lines were better than mine. Finally, I limped to the end of the scene, and as soon as it was over, I rushed off the stage, feeling defeated. As I made my way through the hallway, I spotted Artie waiting for me. He told me that Sherry got the role of Cinderella but I would be the understudy (替角). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the performance, Sherry got sick and couldn’t come. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】He told me that Sherry got the role of Cinderella but I would be the understudy (替角). At the news, I sighed and forced a smile. Sensing my disappointment, Artie put his hand on my shoulder and encouraged, “Seize the chance and you can shine too. Believe in yourself!” His words giving me a burst of confidence, I nodded admittedly, determined to be the best understudy. In the following days, I spent hours every day rehearsing my lines, perfecting my expressions and practicing each act. Gradually, I grew more confident and was fully prepared for the possibility of stepping onto the stage if needed. On the day of the performance, Sherry got sick and couldn’t come. Panic filled the air backstage. Calm outside but nervous inside, I took a deep breath and stepped forward. All those days of hard work and preparation had led to this moment. As the curtains rose, I walked onto the stage with a newfound courage. The lights shone on me, and I delivered my lines with full of passion and confidence. With the music fading away, the audience broke into thunderous applause. At that very moment, I knew I fulfilled my mission as an understudy. That day, I became the star of the show, proving to myself and everyone that chances are for those who are prepared. 词汇激活 行为类 决心做某事:be determined to do sth/make up one’s mind to do sth 为……做准备:be prepared for/get ready for 鼓励:encourage/inspire 情绪类 紧张的:nervous/tense 失望:disappointment/despair 【点睛】[高分句型1]Gradually, I grew more confident and was fully prepared for the possibility of stepping onto the stage if needed.(运用了状语从句的省略) [高分句型2]That day, I became the star of the show, proving to myself and everyone that chances are for those who are prepared.(运用了现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句,who引导定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 资阳市安岳中学2024-2025学年度上期高二年级期末检测 英语 本试卷满分150分,考试时间150分钟。 What does the woman suggest doing this summer? The weather is warming up, we can open the doors to the garden, and the grandchildren are hunting for surprises from mother nature. 24. What do we know about the author? A. C In valleys with thick plants, different-sized round and square buildings with faded yellow clay walls and wooden roofs, tulou lie in mountainous villages in Longyan, Fujian Province. The structures are mainly symmetrical (对称), and their defensive features include ironclad gates, escape tunnels, narrow openings for weapons under the dark-tiled roofs, and a water well. B. Favorable. C. Negative. D. Unclear. 31 Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A. Tulou: Given the World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 2008 B. Tulou: a Special Chinese Structure Combining Living and Defending C. Tulou: Different-Sized Round and Square Buildings D. Tulou: in Harmony with Their Environments D When parents discover their children have lied to them for the first time, it can often come as a shock to find their little treasures are capable of such a trick. What makes parents fail to see their children's lies D What affects children's relations with their parents 35. What can be inferred from Dr Evans's study in the last two paragraphs? A. Parents tend to protect their own children B. Lying is a part of children's development C. Children aged 8 to 16 are very likely to tell lies D. Parents can judge lies told by children of others more easily How to Fall Off a Skateboard Safely Skateboarding is very popular exercise. As I climbed the stairs to the stage I tripped, nearly falling flat on my face. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
