One night, as I was driving down the road, I found something was sitting in the middle of the road. A few seconds later, I realized I was looking at a large turtle (海龟). Afraid of it being crashed by cars, so I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety. But I’d made one big mistake.
I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake. While the turtle turned out OK generally, I was determined to figure out how to move a turtle properly. I needed to find someone who dealt with turtles. I found the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. I talked to Dr. Sue, its Executive and Medical Director.
Dr. Sue told me that the organization dealt with a number of aspects of turtle conservation, including rescue, settlement, birth programs, research, and education. Sue explained that southern Ontario is home to a vast majority of turtles in Canada, but is also one of the vastest road networks of the country.
“Ninety percent of injured turtles brought in are caused by cars. These turtles spend a lot of time on land. And they do travel many kilometers on land for a variety of reasons, to find a nesting spot, or to hang out for the summer or winter. Turtles know where they want to go. So, just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life,” Dr. Sue said.
Once an injured turtle arrives at the center, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go, including an X-ray machine. That’s when the team gets to work with healing injuries, and help their patient.
24. Why did the author stop the car?
A. To help the turtle. B. To see the thing clearly.
C. To prevent a car accident. D. To find something good.
25. What happened to the turtle?
A. It got hurt by people previously. B. It lost its direction.
C. It was run over by a car. D. It was injured a little bit by the author.
26. What did Dr. Sue suggest at last?
A. Leaving the turtles alone. B. Making Ontario home to turtles.
C. Changing the road conditions. D. Helping turtles find nesting spots.
27. What does the underlined word “patient” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. The director. B. The turtle. C. The author. D. The driver.

Many high school students consider a college education useless. Therefore, they choose not to go to college. If you’re one of them, think again. Here are some reasons why you should go to college and receive a good education there.
Schools and universities are the first sources of knowledge. We take that knowledge later on to build our careers after graduation. More knowledge will be gained after you start working, but without an education, that job will not be within easy reach. Knowledge leads to knowledge.
While limited within the walls of the educational institutions (机构), we openly explore other cultures of the world. We come to know that ours is not the only culture. Other cultures have valuable things to share, enriching our own at last. Education also makes us want to travel and experience various cultures, broadening our horizons.
When there’s a downturn (衰退) in the economy, those who attended college will be more likely to find a new job than those who only finished grade school and have a limited skill set. The more education you have, the more chances you will get to improve the quality of your life as you have a better job and earn a higher salary.
When you’re skillful and knowledgeable, you get to get in touch with people of similar backgrounds and tastes. It means a good education leads to excellent networking. Good networking can benefit you a lot in your later life.
A good education makes you a more interesting and confident person. You can talk about ideas and events instead of just listening to other people. An educated person doesn’t gossip (说闲话), has a preference to discuss ideas and listens to what other people have to say.
28. Why do some students choose not to go to college according to paragraph 1?
A. They can’t afford it. B. They have enough knowledge.
C. They don’t realize its value. D. They are not interested in education.
29. What do we need knowledge for?
A. Basing our career on. B. Understanding life better.
C. Keeping in touch with people. D. Making us easy to get along with.
30. What will a good education help one to do when the economy is bad?
A. Find a new job. B. Connect with people.
C. Be a funny person. D. Enjoy various cultures.
31. What is the best title of the text?
A. Sources of Knowledge B. Disadvantages of Not Being Educated
C. Benefits of Attending College D. Reasons Why People Think College Useless
D
An exhibition of paintings of ancient Chinese characters was held on July 13 in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, with the aim of promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Based on the classic I Ching or The Book of Changes (《易经》), the display brought together the art of Ethiopia’s Dawit Muluneh and famous calligrapher Wu Jiuyi, who produced examples of calligraphy on the spot.
Speaking at the event, its organizer Gossa Oda says the exhibition was an opportunity to showcase cultural commonalities and shared knowledge between the two countries. “In organizing this exhibition, I wanted to communicate the ancient mystery of I Ching, which helps improve connectivity between Ethiopia and China and promote their shared future. A shared future starts from shared knowledge,” says Oda, who is also the owner of the Medemer Africa Art and Sculpture Space, where the 64 paintings are housed.
Oda says such an exhibition would strengthen people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges, stressing the importance of knowledge and civilizations for human development.
The paintings describe the 64 divinatory (占卜的) symbols found in I Ching, which represent the day-to-day interaction between man and nature. “They are meant to share knowledge and feelings with visitors, and descriptions are written in Chinese, English and Amharic.” says Muluneh, who painted all 64 paintings in a year. He says the exhibition can be considered a stepping stone to promote cultural exchange and create mutual situations for common development between the peoples of China and Ethiopia.
“The backgrounds of the paintings make use of Ethiopian styles and express the ideas of heaven, harvest, and relief, among others,” says Muluneh, who drew similarities and absorbed essential parts from the traditional arts of both countries.
In an interview, Wu says that he was taken by surprise when he saw an Ethiopian artist painting Chinese characters. The exhibition attracted members of the Chinese community in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian artists and painters, and school children.
32. What’s the main purpose of the exhibition held in Addis Ababa?
A. To promote Ethiopian art globally.
B. To introduce the I Ching to Ethiopians.
C. To promote cultural exchanges between Ethiopia and China.
D. To celebrate the cooperation between Dawit Muluneh and Wu Jiuyi.
33. What do the symbols in I Ching stand for?
A. Different language signs. B. Human-nature connection.
C. Daily exploration in nature. D. Shared knowledge of human.
34. What does the phrase “a stepping stone” in the context mean?
A. A physical object used for walking.
B. A metaphor for a difficult beginning.
C. A special stone used in Ethiopian art.
D. An initial effort leading to further progress.
35. What’s the best title for the text?

B. The turtle. C. The author. D. The driver.
【答案】24. A 25. D 26. A 27. B
