In the center of Shandong province, Zibo has a population of about 4.7 million. It’s an old industrial (工业的) city, not known as a tourist place. 31 How has Zibo become such a popular place, especially for young people?
Its interesting barbecue (烧烤) culture is the first and main reason. The city has been known for its barbecue restaurants, and created an open-air BBQ environment. 32 When the food is served, the diners have to cook themselves on a stove (炉子) and then eat it in a special way. Zibo has set up special tourist trains and BBQ buses to interest tourists. Now the whole country wants a taste of Zibo barbecue. Another reason is that Zibo played a special role during COVID-19. 33 And they celebrated their last night in Zibo with a BBQ. The next spring, they came back to Zibo and spent time there to thank the city. Their posts online became a hot topic and made the city popular. 34 As more and more people have come to Zibo and shared the videos on it and other social media, Zibo gets even more popular.
All in all, it’s clear that Zibo has done something right. As many cities are doing all they can to make their town a tourist place, Zibo has shown us the key to success: to stay kind, to be trusted, but most of all, to keep the barbecue hot.

Gulliver managed to get away from the small men. He found a boat and tried to sail(航行) home. However, there was a great storm at sea. The strong winds drove his boat to an island.
It was strange that everyone on the island was very large. They were all more than 20 meters tall. A farmer found Gulliver and took him home to his daughter. Gulliver seemed very small to them, like a toy or a pet. The farmer’s daughter took Gulliver to town to show him around. Everyone in town was very surprised to see such a small person.
The Queen heard about Gulliver and bought him from the farmer. She gave Gulliver to the King as a present. The King enjoyed listening to Gulliver talk about his home country and his many travels. Their chairs, tables, knives, forks and plates were all much too big for Gulliver to use, so they built a small house for him to live in. Wherever the King and Queen went, they carried Gulliver with them in his house.
One day they went to the beach. While they were there, a large eagle picked up Gulliver’s house-with Gulliver in it-and carried him high up into the air. But the house was too heavy, so the eagle dropped it into the sea. Gulliver used his house as a boat until a ship found him. The ship took him home.

Great news! Pandas are no longer in danger. They are on the road of recovery (恢复). Back in the 1980s, there were as few as 1,114 pandas in China. But the most recent survey in 2014 showed that there were over 1,864 pandas live in the wild.
Since 1981, the Chinese government has been working with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to save the world’s most famous bears and their homes. They set up nature parks which help protect nearly 1,300 wild pandas by giving them space to live and bamboo to eat. But the bamboo forests are getting smaller, so pandas are still losing their homes. The WWF warned that climate (气候) change could also destroy (毁掉) more than 35% of the animals’ homes, so there won’t enough places to live for them in the next years. The future for pandas in the long term is not yet clear. But one thing is for sure: we must do more efforts (努力) to protect our lovely pandas.
