Best Places to Visit in Europe for 2025
European countries are full of vibrant cities bursting with culture and scenic landscapes. With abundant must-see sights, it comes as no surprise that deciding which spots to visit can be difficult. Use this list to start planning your European getaway.
Venice
Travelers will appreciate Venice’s attractive canals and historical architecture. Keep in mind, though, that this extremely popular destination sees massive crowds, especially during the warmer months. To control over tourism, Venice charges tourists a small fee to enter on select dates. Plus, gondola rides and hotels are pricey, so you’ll want to budget accordingly.
London
Exploring the world-famous British Museum, seeing a musical in the West End theater district, watching the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and stepping back in time at the Tower of London are all parts of the London experience. However, London’s high hotel prices can make travelers with tight budgets back off. To save money, book your accommodations far in advance.
Amsterdam
Spend the day cycling through Amsterdam’s stylish streets before exploring noteworthy museums like the Van Gogh Museum. Plan a picnic in Vondel park for lunch or choose a boat tour along the city’s many canals when it’s time to rest your feet. While you’re here, consider planning a day trip to one of Amsterdam’s nearby scenic places — Utrecht and Leiden are both worth visiting.
Prague
A vacation in Prague will leave you feeling as if you’ve stepped into a fairy tale. Take in the Gothic architecture and be sure to tour Prague Castle. Plus, Prague’s affordable food and drinks, accommodations and excellent public transportation make it a great place for travelers who wish to visit Europe on a budget.

Tisha Beauchmin, a mother of five children, was approached by her neighbor, Audrey, a single mother with three children. She was going to the hospital to get tested, and there was no one she could find to look after her kids other than Tisha.
When Audrey returned home, she told Tisha she had stomach cancer. Audrey was overwhelmed by the news she received, and despite not knowing each other for long, the woman asked Tisha if she would accept to be the guardian of her kids in case Audrey died. Tisha knew in her heart the right thing to do.
Audrey’s sickness progressed quickly. She sadly passed away a few months after her diagnosis (诊断), leaving Tisha with her three kids.
The Beauchmins might not be well off, but their hearts were rich with kindness. Their home was not designed for eight kids, but they were trying to make it happen. They were also struggling to make ends meet.
Elizabeth Thames,a neighbor of both Tisha and Audrey, knew about their story and wanted to help. She sent a letter to the Fox 5 Surprise Squad and recommended Tisha to be their next recipient of a life-changing surprise.
The story moved the program. They visited Tisha and took a tour of her home. They told her to stay in a temporary place with her family as they made the changes she needed.
The entire crew helped out along with various other groups in the community. Carpets were placed, the walls were repainted, and the rooms were fixed so the kids would have privacy and comfort as they grew. After a few days out of the house, Tisha and her family, including Audrey’s children, returned. Their reactions were filled with tears, and how many people worked together to make it happen was incredible. Apart from the incredible home, the family was also given free groceries for a year and $1,500 for their eldest son to find a suitable apartment.
4. What did Tisha do after her neighbour passed away?
A. She redesigned her house.
B. She went to the hospital to be examined.
C. She asked people in her neighborhood for help.
D. She took over the care of her neighbor’s children.
5 What was Elizabeth’s reaction to the Beauchmins’ situation?
A. She asked a program to help this family.
B. She recommended Tisha to write a letter.
C. She visited Tisha and offered a large house.
D. She provided an apartment for their eldest son.
6. Which best describes Tisha?
A. Brave and ambitious. B. Determined and energetic.
C. Kind-hearted and caring. D. Confident and enthusiastic.
7. What message does the passage convey?
A. A friend in need is a friend indeed. B. Good things happen to good people.
C. Nothing is impossible to a willing mind. D. The roses in her hand, the flavor in mine.

Dolphins and parrots are known to address each other by imitating the sounds they hear other members of their species make, but only humans are known to address each other using names they make up. However, this might not be the case. Wild elephants respond to individual names in the same way as humans, according to new research published in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution.
Intending to find out whether elephants might be using made-up names, too, Michael Pardo, a behavioral ecologist at Colorado State University, and his colleagues first identified 469 calls or “rumbles” made by wild African elephants living in Amboseli National Park and Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves in Kenya. Each of the vocalizations (发声) had a known caller and a known receiver, and an algorithm (算法) was used to predict which of these sounds were potential names and which elephant they were likely to describe.
Next the researchers played recordings of these “names” to different elephants and found that elephants responded more enthusiastically to their own name than they did to the names of others. When they heard their names, they approached the speaker more quickly and responded more vocally. The findings suggest that elephants have specific vocalizations or names for each other, and that they can recognize these names, even when they occur out of context.
Name-calling was more common when animals were communicating over long distances, the authors found, and also when adults were talking to their babies. The young were less likely than adults to use names, suggesting that the ability to design and use names is a skill that takes years to learn.
Elephants are intelligent creatures that live in complex social groups. They use sound, sight, scent and touch to communicate with each other, and their calls are known to communicate a rich stream of information, including details about age, sex, emotion and behavioral intention.
The ability to design and link a sound with the identity of another animal suggests that elephants have a previously unappreciated depth of cognitive ability — they may be capable of abstract thought.
8. Why are humans mentioned in paragraph 1?
A. To bring up the topic.
B. To tell readers the ability of humans.
C. To provide the background information.
D. To prove humans are distinct from some animals.
9. What can be inferred from the elephants’ response to these “names”?
A. Elephants are active and enthusiastic animals.
B. Elephants react differently when being called.
C. Elephants are good at making up their own names.
D. Elephants can recognize others’ calling their names.
10. What does the author suggest in paragraph 4?
A. Young elephants dislike using names.
B. Long distance makes it a must to use name-calling.
C. Elephants’ ability to use names can be enhanced as they grow.
D. People tend to call their children’s names when talking to them.
11. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To report a research on elephants’ behavior.
B. To analyses why elephants design and use names.
C. To call on people to pay attention to elephants’ cognitive ability.
D. To show the similarity between elephants and humans in behavior.
D
Yabbies, freshwater lobsters (龙虾) native to Australia, can tolerate high temperatures and drought, and hardly need any oxygen in their water. Yet even for them, the Darling River, which snakes through western New South Wales, is proving uninhabitable. Crowds of yabbies were recently seen getting out of water. On March 17th the river was blanketed by millions of dead freshwater fish. Graeme MeCrabb, a local, estimates the “line of dead fish” stretches over 100 km.
The mass fish death is the latest illustration of how climate change is combining with mismanagement to harm Australia’s fragile environment. The Darling forms one arm of the Murray-Darling basin, a vast river system that covers much of Queensland and South Australia. The system supports 40% of Australia’s agricultural production. But it is in a desperate state.
Climate change is bringing more extreme heat and drought, which caused the previous “mass mortality” in the Darling River system in 2018 and 2019. Drought brought the river to a stop, exhausting its oxygen. But the warming climate is also bringing more extreme rainfall and flooding. which is behind the latest die-off.
Eastern Australia has had three years of heavy rainfall. This summer the Darling burst its banks, flooding towns and washing tons of chemicals and organic matter into the water. That has caused bacteria to flourish, consuming oxygen from it, says Richard Kingsford, an ecologist at the University of New South Wales. A heatwave may have worsened this “black water event”, since warm water holds less oxygen. The many dams that line the Darling then made it hard or impossible for fish to escape to healthier water. So millions died and their decomposition(腐烂) in turn drew more oxygen from the river, worsening the cycle.
Over-exploitation (过度开采) of the Murray-Darling’s waters has made the system especially defenseless to such shocks. A water-sharing initiative launched in 2012 was supposed to help conservation, yet there is little evidence that it has improved the basin’s health. For Robert McBride, who owns a vast sheep station near Menindee, the Darling is paying “the supreme sacrifice for total mismanagement of the river system”.
12. What does the underlined word“uninhabitable” in paragraph I mean?
A. Abnormal. B. Uncomfortable. C. Unlivable. D. Fundamental.
13. How many factors are relevant to the decrease of oxygen level in the river?
A. 1. B. 2. C. 3. D. 4.
14. How is paragraph 4 mainly developed?
A. By making a comparison. B. By analyzing cause and effect.
C. By listing different possibilities. D. By giving examples of fish death.
15. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. Australia — frequent drought and flood
B. Darling — an important river in Australia
C Australia — worse and worse climate and environment
D. Darling — mass fish death from climate change and mismanagement

They were going to Fort Lauderdale — three boys and three girls — and when they boarded the bus, they noticed Vingo. He sat in front of them, dressed in a plain, ill-fitting suit, never moving, in complete silence.
Two hours later, the bus pulled into a motel (汽车旅馆), and everybody got off for a break except Vingo. He sat rooted in his seat, and the young began to wander about him, trying to imagine his life. When they went back to the bus, one of the girls sat beside him and introduced herself.
“We’ re going to Florida,” she said brightly. “I hear it’s really beautiful.”
“It is,” he said quietly, as if remembering something he had tried to forget.
After a while of chatting, slowly and painfully, he began to tell his story. He had been in prison in New York for the past four years, and now he was going home.
“Are you married?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” she said.
“Well, when in prison I wrote to my wife,” he said. “I told her that I was going to be away a longtime, and that if she couldn’t stand it, if the kids kept asking questions, if it hurt her too much, well, she could just forget about me. I told her she didn’t have to write me. And she didn’t. Not for three and a half years.”
“And you’ re going home now, not knowing anything?”
“Yeah,” he said shyly. “Well, last week, when I was sure the parole (假释) was coming through, I wrote to her again. We used to live in Brunswick, and there’s a big oak tree (橡树) just as you come into town, I told her that if she didn’t have a new guy and if she’d take me back, she should put a yellow ribbon (丝带) on the tree, and I’d get off and go home. If she didn’t want me, forget it — no ribbon, and I’d go on through.”
“Wow,” the girl exclaimed.

【答案】Dear John,
I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing to invite you to a cultural exchange event at our school titled “Building Cultural Bridges.”
The event will take place in the school auditorium on October 15th from 2 pm to 5 pm. There will be various activities, such as traditional music performances, cultural exhibitions, and interactive workshops that highlight the diverse cultures present at our school. It would be a great opportunity to experience and share different cultural perspectives.
I really hope you can join us and perhaps share some of your own culture as well. Looking forward to your presence.
Yours
Li Hua

【答案】范文
She told the others Vingo’s story. Soon all of them were in it, looking at the pictures. Vingo showed them of his wife and three kids. “Not only does my wife make our home warm but she is also devoted to taking care of our children.” Vingo murmured, pointing at the pictures. With 20 miles left from Brunswick, the young people took over window seats on the right side, waiting for the approach of the great oak tree. Vingo stopped looking, tightening his face, as if protecting himself against another disappointment. Nobody uttering a word, the bus was full of silence.
Then suddenly, all of the young people were up out of their seats. “Wow!” they all screamed and shouted and cried, doing small dances except Vingo. He was overcome with extreme anxiety and nervousness, with his legs trembling without control and his face losing color. Subsequently, he was deeply shocked, looking at the oak tree, which was covered with countless yellow ribbons. Memories of his wife and kids living with him flooded back, tears welling up in his eyes. It was not until then that he slowly rose from his seat, making his way to the front of the bus to go home.
