Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to behave in different situations around the world.
①________
Most travellers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without knowing the customs when people first meet. In Russia, you should never shake hands in a doorway. When the Japanese meet new people, they like giving business cards, but you should read the card carefully, not just put it in your pocket.
②________
In most countries in Europe, people expect a lot of eye contact when you talk to them, but in many Asian countries a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. And in China, people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk, but in countries like the USA you need to give people more personal space.
③________
In restaurants in China, you can leave a bit of food on your plate. It’s OK to start smoking before other people finish eating, which you mustn’t do in the UK. When in India, remember to eat with your right hand. Also avoid leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that’s too bad luck.
④________
When you are traveling in Asia, if someone invites you to his or her home, don’t forget to take off your shoes when you arrive. And if you visit an Arab family’s home, don’t admire anything valuable because your host will feel he should give it to you as a present.
With so much to think about, it’s not surprising that many people prefer going on holiday in their own countries, or you might just decide to stay at home! But anyway, wherever you go, please remember, you should respect the local customs there and try to get used to the life there.

Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been making waves in the art world. AI image-making tools such as Mid-journey and DALL-E 2 can now make amazing digital (数码的) paintings. How do they work?
For DALL-E 2, the AI is fed huge collections of artworks. The program finds patterns (模式) in the pictures and, after a while, learns which features (特征) are important, such as people, animals, objects, styles, or colors. Then it can produce images that keep the key features and produce a good result. The app produces a lot of images at the same time but chooses the most accurate (准确的) ones for the user to choose from.
These days, anyone can go online or download an app to produce their own AI art. Just give the program a few key words and choose a style, and it will create a digital painting in the style you want. This means that anyone can now create art, even if they don’t know how to paint.
Not everyone is happy about the growth of AI-generated (生成的) art. To some, it isn’t art at all because AI depends on learning from only the information it is given. The AI isn’t creating on its own. However, others think that AI is the same as humans and it is no different from any other artist.
Some people also say that AI art has no value because it is too easy. It isn’t created step-by-step by a human. Yet the same is true of photography. Just as artists of an earlier age welcomed photography, some artists today are using AI to create unique works of art. These artists find that they have to work together with the AI in exploring and experimenting—it isn’t simple at all!
At the heart of this debate (辩论) is an important question: Will AI replace human artists, or will humans learn to use AI as a tool to create great art? Only time will tell.
43. People can use Midjourney and DALL-E 2 to ________.
A. collect artworks B. create paintings
C. produce image-making tool D. take digital pictures of famous paintings
44. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 3?
A. A style. B. AI art. C. The program. D. A key word.
45. Why are some people against AI-generated art?
A. Because it is created step-by-step by humans.
B. Because it can help people create unique artworks.
C. Because it’s too difficult to operate the technology.
D. Because it depends on learning from information instead of creating on its own.
46. From this passage we can know the writer is ________ about the future of using AI to create art.
A. uncertain B. sure C. worried D. excited
47. Which of the following could be the best title for the passage?
A. AI Art: A New Trend in the Art World B. The Disadvantages of AI in Art Creation
C. How to Make AI Art D. The Relationship between AI and Human Artists
D
Have you ever walked into a room and realized you couldn’t remember what you were looking for? We seem to do this more when we are thinking of a few things at once or doing two things at the same time. For example, you’re crossing the street while chatting with a friend, or walking across a room while answering a phone. Some people call this dual-tasking. Everyone does it and we tend to get better at it as we get older and learn new skills.
Our brain is a truly amazing computer—more powerful than any real computer, but it can only use so much energy at one time. Think of your brain as a power station, providing electricity for a number of cities, some cities need a lot of energy by having all their lights on, other cities would have less power to work with. There’s only so much electricity to go around.
For young kids, dual-tasking is possible. However some studies suggest that it can be a little more difficult for younger kids compared with older kids. Why? The power station in their brain is a little smaller and can’t produce quite the same amount of energy as older kids.
So why do you sometimes forget to say something before you say it?
The answer is that you are likely to have been dual-tasking just before speaking. It might be because you were thinking about the words you wanted to say and something else at the same time, Sometimes your brain just can’t do two complicated (复杂的) things at once. You may not have enough energy at that moment.
Forgetting things is normal for everyone and can happen when you are doing too many things, When it happens to you, don’t be nervous!
48. How does the writer begin the passage?
A. By listing numbers. B. By asking a question.
C. By showing a saying. D. By comparing the facts.
49. What does the underlined word “dual-tasking” probably mean in the passage?
A. Doing two jobs at the same time. B. Being relaxed and easy.
C. Focusing on one main thing. D. Doing something without planning.
50. According to the writer, our brain is like a ______.
A. light B. book C. train D. computer
51. Why is dual-tasking more difficult for younger kids compared to older kids?
A. Younger kids are less focused. B. The power station in their brain is smaller.
C. They have not learned enough skills. D. Their brains develop more slowly.
52. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. To explain how the brain functions like a power station.
B. To discuss the differences in dual-tasking ability between young and old kids.
C. To give the reasons for forgetting things and the concept of dual-tasking.
D. To show the importance of avoiding dual-tasking to prevent forgetting.

Being Kind Makes Me Happy
Kindness is like a warm sunshine that can brighten not only others’ days but also my own heart.
It makes me happy because when I help others, I feel a sense of satisfaction and pride. It’s as if I’m making a small but meaningful difference in the world. For instance, in school, I once noticed a classmate looking sad after a math test. I quietly passed him a note with a simple words to encourage him. Later, he thanked me with a big smile. Seeing his relief and gratitude made me realize that my small act of kindness had a positive impact on him. It not only helped him in that moment but also strengthened our friendship.
In conclusion, being kind brings me happiness in a way that nothing else can. It creates a positive ripple effect, spreading warmth and love. I believe that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a big impact on both ourselves and those around us.
