This unit focuses on the general theme of “Looking into the Future” with the sub-theme of “Reading and Thinking” dedicated to the topic of “Exchanging Views on Smart Homes.” This article is a popular science exposition, with five paragraphs. The first paragraph introduces the background and topic; the second to fourth paragraphs describe the functions of smart homes from three perspectives: intelligent control, regular health checks, and disaster prevention; the fifth paragraph concludes that although the era of smart homes has arrived, it still needs some time before it can be widely promoted and adopted. Recognizing this fact is of great significance for the development of students’characters. VII、Reflection of teaching
In this reading lesson, we focus on the theme of future smart homes, which is unfamiliar to the students. Therefore, before the class, we used the setting of a house blind box to attract the students' interest in the topic and stimulate their attention to smart homes. The students were very active and enthusiastic during class. In future English teaching activities, we should adopt more lively ways to introduce the text, laying the foundation for developing a good English class.
Through this lesson, the students' abilities to obtain and to understand the information of the text have been enhanced. At the same time, they have a great chance to apply language knowledge to reality, forming their own opinions on smart homes, which helps to cultivate their dialectical thinking.
