B In the late 1940s, it was common to see young students practicing table tennis on a chalk-drawn table on the sidewalk at night. As a second-grader in a primary school, I began my journey with table tennis on such a table. Later, I became a player and then a coach of a national team, watching generations of players contribute to the success of table tennis. Recently, at the age of 84, I received a national honorary title. I said, “Choosing to play table tennis is a decision I totally do not regret.” During times when we didn’t have much, I even made my own bat (球拍). I would buy old photo frames made of plywood (胶合板) from stores, and then turn them into bases of bats. I would then attach rubber (橡胶) to make a simple bat. I recalled, “The ‘clang’ sound of hitting the ball with such a bat was very satisfying.” I formed a team called Red Flag at school. During holidays, we played friendly matches with ping-pong fans from nearby factories and schools. I often visited different places, where I could watch high-level players and learn from them. In a competition held in 1961, I won third place in the men’s table tennis singles event. I also won the first-ever men’s doubles and mixed doubles championships for our team. In 1975, I became the head coach of the women’s table tennis team in my country. Under my guidance, the team always won the women’s singles title in competitions. One of the outstanding athletes I discovered and trained became an extremely good table tennis player. Though she was short, she could see every ball coming her way as an opportunity. This allowed her to launch (发起) more attacks than others. Moreover, she had a strong desire to win and trained very hard. 24. What inspired the author to begin playing table tennis? A. His love for making bats. B. International competitions on TV. C. Encouragement from his school coach. D. The sights of students playing on tables drawn by themselves. 25. What challenge did the author face when playing table tennis in his early days? A. Poor lighting conditions. B. Limited access to equipment. C. Difficulty of finding partners. D. Long distance between his home and tables. 26. What do we know about the author according to the last three paragraphs? A He introduced table tennis as an Olympic sport. B. He won his best honour in his seventies. C. He trained the women’s team for his country. D. He led the men’s team to get many world titles. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. The Art of Making a Bat B. My Journey with Table Tennis C. The Comment on a Table Tennis Champion D. My Process of Shaping the Future of Table Tennis C Southern California’s firefighters worked tirelessly on Saturday to put out a wildfire that has destroyed more than 100 buildings as strong winds calmed down and the weather was expected to stay good for the weekend. Evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings for people in several areas of Ventura County, where the mountain fire held at around 83 square kilometers and 21% of it was under control. Firefighters were aided by lighter winds, mild temperatures and low humidity (湿度), which let fuels dry out and burn off quickly, according to the National Weather Service. “We had a very successful day on the fire that broke out 3 days ago with the favorable (有利的) weather,” Ventura County Fire Department Battalion Chief Nick Cleary said on Saturday. “The fire got worse with the arrival of dry, warm and strong northeast Santa Ana winds, forcing thousands of people to evacuate and putting 3,500 buildings in danger around the community of Camarillo. More than100 buildings were destroyed and another 25 damaged,” fire officials said on Saturday after working teams fanned out to check the damage. It was reported that the damage would be at $2.4 million. Smoky air hung over the area and was expected to stay there for several days. Weather conditions would remain favorable on Sunday and Monday with low temperatures and an onshore light wind. Another round of northeast winds was expected on Tuesday, but humidity was expected to rise and winds were not expected to get as high as those that fanned the fire. The area northwest of Los Angeles has seen some of California’s most destructive fires over the years. The mountain fire burgeoned from less than 1.2 square kilometers to more than 41 square kilometers in little more than five hours on Wednesday, with winds topping 98 kph. The governor of California has announced a state of emergency in Ventura County. 28. What can we know about the fire in Ventura County? A. It wasn’t as strong as expected. B. It didn’t do much damage. C. It has been partly controlled. D. It has been completely put out. 29. When did the mountain fire start? A. On Sunday. B. On Saturday. C. On Wednesday. D. On Monday. 30. What does the underlined word “burgeoned” in the last paragraph mean? A. Stopped suddenly. B. Grew quickly. C. Appeared formally. D. Developed successfully. 31. What is the text? A. A news report. B. A short story. C. A work plan. D. A research article. D New evidence suggests that studying Chinese and learning to write Chinese characters may train cognitive (认知的) abilities, which are not developed by learning other languages and writing systems. A study conducted by researchers from the UK’s Wellcome Trust found that people who speak Chinese use both temporal lobes (颞叶) of their brain to understand the language. This is very different from English-language speakers who use only the left temporal lobe. Speakers of Chinese use intonation (语调) to tell between completely different meanings of particular words, which needs stronger cognitive abilities. Besides, the practice of handwriting, especially of Chinese characters, will aid the development of motor skills, learning shapes and letters and will keep the mind sharp. Through the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, researchers found that neural (神经的) activity in children who practiced printing letters by hand was more strengthened than those who just looked at them. Compared with English, mostly written in line and from left to right, Chinese characters have more complex in structure Their writing involves strokes (笔画) in all four directions: up, down, left, and right. The movement of the fingers and hand helps improve neural activity in the working, thinking, and memory of the brain of the learners. Evidence also suggests that there is a connection between the learning of Chinese and math skills. Researchers from New Zealand noticed that Asian children educated in their own languages appear to have gained a greater understanding of math ideas than English-speaking children. During the natural learning process of Chinese, the student is learning basic math ideas. Math skills are included in character writing because it includes skills such as counting, grouping, ordering, and identifying similarities and differences. While the research on the relationship between the learning of Chinese and cognition is not yet fully clear, there is good evidence to suggest that learning Chinese tones and characters represents an added challenge to language learning. 32. What is the text centred on? A. Why Asian children are better at math test. B. Why Chinese is a difficult language to learn. C. How learning Chinese benefits our cognition. D. How Chinese writing differs from English writing. 33. What does the study by UK’s Wellcome Trust show? A. English speakers should learn Chinese. B. Chinese has more intonations than English. C. Using Chinese needs a higher-level brain activity. D. Mastering different meanings of Chinese is difficult. 34. Why is learning Chinese beneficial to solving math problems? A. They need quite different cognitive abilities. B. Chinese writing looks like math symbols. C. Chinese children naturally do well in math. D. They share several key cognitive abilities. 35. How is the text mainly developed? A. By offering supporting findings. B. By comparing former research. C. By discussing problems and solutions. D. By listing advantages and disadvantages. Throughout my years of road-tripping, I’ve gone through scary accidents, moments of excitement, endless boredom, and everything in between. ____36____. Especially around dinner time, the whole building is filled with the smell of different foods. I particularly love the unique smell of a sauce (酱) from apartment 501.While others might think it’s just a strong, stinky (臭的) smell, it’s very attractive to me. This smell reminds me of when I first moved to the small town and rented a room of an old woman. Her meals were simple: rice, sauce soup, and pickles (咸菜). Sauce soup was the main dish. At first, I didn’t like it, but slowly, I began to love the taste. On cold winter nights, coming home against the wind, I could always smell the sauce soup she was cooking in the kitchen. It was a kind of happiness that was hard to describe. After I got married, I tried to make the sauce myself, but it never tasted the same, and my family didn’t like it. So, I gave up. The sauce smell from apartment 501 made me think of the old woman, and I started to pay more attention to the lady who lived there. She was in her thirties, with kind eyes. We would nod to each other when we met. One snowy day, we talked about how to store cabbage during winter. I mentioned that my family liked pork and cabbage dumplings, which she had never tried. I immediately gave her a plate of freshly cooked dumplings. She said thanks to me, with a smile. I began to hope she would give me a bowl of her sauce soup. One day, she knocked on my door with a plate of steamed potato dumplings filled with spicy cabbage. They were delicious, but I felt a bit disappointed. We exchanged food a few more times, but I never got to taste her sauce soup. One winter night, I heard arguing from apartment 501. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few weeks later, the lady knocked on my door again. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024—2025学年高一期末(上)测试 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? A. He introduced table tennis as an Olympic sport. B. He won his best honour in his seventies. C. He trained the women’s team for his country. D. He led the men’s team to get many world titles. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. The Art of Making a Bat B. My Journey with Table Tennis C. The Comment on a Table Tennis Champion D. My Process of Shaping the Future of Table Tennis 【答案】24. D 25. B 26. C 27. 28. C 29. C 30. B 31. 32. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 One winter night, I heard arguing from apartment 501. I quickly went over to help. Inside her home, I saw sauce blocks wrapped in brown paper on the shelf and realized I might soon taste the new sauce. I accidentally said, “Such good sauce.” The lady stopped crying and looked at me, and her husband seemed surprised too. I changed the subject and praised their cute child, and the lady’s gentle look returned. Two days later, the lady brought me a bowl of sauce, promising to give me more when the new sauce was ready. A few weeks later, the lady knocked on my door again. She gave me a larger pot of freshly made sauce and a large bowl of sauce soup. She smiled and said, “I remembered how much you liked the sauce and the soup, so I made extra.” Her kindness touched me deeply. We stood in the doorway, chatting about our favorite recipes and family traditions. As I sat down to enjoy the soup that evening, I thought about the connections we made through food and how they brought us closer together. It felt like a new friendship was starting. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看见:see/spot ②赞美:praise/compliment ③想到:think about/remember 情绪类 ①吃惊:surprised/stunned ②善良:kindness/good-deed 【点睛】[高分句型1] Two days later, the lady brought me a bowl of sauce, promising to give me more when the new sauce was ready.
