It will make sure you can get the offer and a significant discount on other products.”(当您光临本店时,请出示这张字条。 根据“Letter 3”中的“You can get a free bike repair service within the first month of your purchase.”(你可以在购买后的第一个月内得到免费的自行车维修服务。)和“Letter 4”中的“If you experience any damage within the first six months of your purchase, we will repair them at no cost.”(如果您在购买后的前六个月内遇到任何损坏,我们将免费维修。) A。 B Johannes Fritz, an Austrian biologist, needed to come up with a plan again if he was going to prevent his rare and beloved birds from going extinct. To survive the European winter, the northern bald ibis needs to migrate south for the winter over the Alps. But shifting climate patterns have delayed when the birds begin to migrate and they are now reaching the mountains too late to make it over the peaks, locking them in an icy death trap. Determined to save them, he decided to teach the birds a new, safer migration route by guiding them himself in a tiny aircraft. He was confident that he could succeed in this daring, unconventional plan. Some 400 years ago, the Europeans hunted these birds without stopping and devoured the last in the wild, causing the birds to disappear entirely from the wild. When Mr. Fritz was born 56 years ago, the northern bald ibis could be found in Europe only in captivity (圈养). Mr.Fritz has spent his career reintroducing the birds into the wild. Through years of trial and error, he learned to fly like a bird. He modified (改装) a lightweight aircraft so it would fly at speeds slow enough for the birds to keep up. In 2004, he led the first flock from Austria to Italy, and has since led more migrations. But the route he originally taught the ibises does not work successfully. With climate change warming the area where the birds summer, they now start their migration at the end of October instead of the end of September. The trip is expected to take about six weeks, “Still, we’re optimistic that it’ll work,” said Mr. Fritz. His family and colleagues witnessed the risks he was taking. “But the unavoidable risks are necessary,” Mr. Fritz said. “It’s not so much a job, but my life’s purpose.” 4. What was Johannes Fritz’s plan? A. To shorten bald ibises’ migration route. B. To lead bald ibises to migrate on a new route. C. To better the climate patterns for bald ibises. D. To find out a safer destination for bald ibises. 5. What does the underlined word “devoured” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Destroyed. B. Abused. C. Released. D. Raised. 6. Why was Mr. Fritz’s initial route for the birds ineffective? A. Owing to the long time it consumes. B. For the slow speed of his modified aircraft. C. Because of the toughness along the first route. D. Due to higher temperatures in the summer habitat. 7. Which of the following can best describe Mr. Fritz? A. Honest. B. Innovative. C. Straightforward. D. Demanding. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据文章第二段“Determined to save them, he decided to teach the birds a new, safer migration route by guiding them himself in a tiny aircraft. He was confident that he could succeed in this daring, unconventional plan.(为了拯救它们,他决定用一架小型飞机亲自引导它们,教它们一条新的、更安全的迁徙路线。 故选A项。 根据文章第四段“But the route he originally taught the ibises does not work successfully. With climate change warming the area where the birds summer, they now start their migration at the end of October instead of the end of September.(但他最初教给秃鹰的路线并不成功。 根据文章第二段“Determined to save them, he decided to teach the birds a new, safer migration route by guiding them himself in a tiny aircraft. He was confident that he could succeed in this daring, unconventional plan.(为了拯救它们,他决定用一架小型飞机亲自引导它们,教它们一条新的、更安全的迁徙路线。 C A flexible film (薄膜) with tiny sensors could make surgery safer for patients with brain diseases. The experimental film, which looks like Saran wrap (保鲜膜), rests on the brain’s surface and detects the electrical activity of nerve cells below. It’s designed to help surgeons remove diseased tissue while preserving important functions like language and memory. “This will enable us to do a better job,” says Dr. Ahmed Raslan, a neurosurgeon at Oregon Health and Science University who helped develop the film. During an operation, surgeons place a grid of sensors on the surface of an awake patient’s brain, taking care not to tear the delicate film. Then they ask the patient to do tasks, like counting or moving a finger. Some of the tasks may be specific to a particular patient. “If somebody is a mathematician, we’ll give them a math formula; if somebody is a painter, we’ll give them what’s called a visual cognition task.” says Raslan. The technology is similar in concept to sensor g rids already used in brain surgery. But the resolution is 100 times higher. Imagine that you’re looking on a clear night at the moon, then imagine looking through a telescope. In addition to aiding surgery, the film should offer researchers a much clearer view of the neural activity responsible for functions including movement, speech, sensation, and even thought. “The new grid is one of the tools,” says John Ngai, who directs the BRAIN Initiative at the National Institutes of Health, which has funded much of the film’s development. It also promises to improve care for people with brain disorders. Ultimately, the goal was to develop better ways of treating human beings. Ngai says, “and I think this gives us a pretty big step toward that goal”. 8. Why is the experimental film designed? A. To protect the surface of patients’ brains. B. To relieve patients’ pain during operations. C. To restrict the electrical activity of nerve cells. D. To maintain brain’s vital functions in surgery. 9. If the patient is a musician, what task would a surgeon probably give him/her? A. A recipe to look through. B. A composing task to finish. C. A math formula to figure out. D. A visual cognition task to conduct. 10. What’s the advantage of the technology according to paragraph 4? A. Improved resolution. B. Broader view. C. Multiple functions. D. More convenience. 11. What is John Ngai’s attitude towards the new technology? A. Critical. B. Cautious. C. Supportive. D. Dismissive. D 9. B 10. A 11. 根据第二段“It’s designed to help surgeons remove diseased tissue while preserving important functions like language and memory. 根据第三段“Then they ask the patient to do tasks, like counting or moving a finger. Some of the tasks may be specific to a particular patient. “If somebody is a mathematician, we’ll give them a math formula; if somebody is a painter, we’ll give them what’s called a visual cognition task.” says Raslan. 根据第四段“The technology is similar in concept to sensor g rids already used in brain surgery. But the resolution is 100 times higher. 故选A。 根据最后一段“Ngai says, “and I think this gives us a pretty big step toward that goal”. C。 D As you’re drafting your New Year’s resolutions, you may think that it takes 21 days of repeating an action for that action to become a habit. So, you set out to go to the gym for 21 days, thinking that by day 22 heading to the gym will feel automatic — maybe even fun. However, that 21-day estimate isn’t true. A habit expert Wendy Wood found that this falsehood came from a self-help book in the 1960s and actually described how long it takes to get used to your new appearance after plastic surgery. It’s important to note that getting used to something is not the same thing as forming a habit, and perhaps the two concepts got confused along the way, giving rise to the term today. To figure out how long it actually takes to form a habit, Phillippa Lally, and her team did a series of research. They recruited 96 people and asked each person to choose one new habit and report each day on whether or not they did the behavior and how automatic the behavior felt. Some people chose simple habits like “drinking a bottle of water with lunch.” Others chose more difficult tasks like “running for 15 minutes before dinner.” At the end of 12 weeks, the researchers analyzed the data to determine how long it took each person to go from starting a new behavior to automatically doing it. The study found that it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. And if you want to set your expectations appropriately, the truth is that it will probably take you anywhere from two months to eight months to build a new behavior into your life. Interestingly, the researchers also found that “missing one opportunity to perform the behavior did not affect the habit formation process.” That is to say, it doesn’t matter if you mess up every now and then. Building better habits is not an all-or-nothing process. So, for those who wish to form certain habits, persistence is king. To form a good habit, we need to pay more energy and effort. 12. What does “21days” actually mean according to Wendy Wood? A. The time one drafts a book. B. The time one develops a new habit. C. The time one gets used to something. D. The time one recovers from a surgery. 13. How did the researchers do the research? A. By doing questionnaires. B. By tracking people’s behaviors. C. By making predictions. D. By analyzing data of previous studies. 14. What can we infer from paragraph 5? A. Habits cannot be noticed easily. B. The amount of time a habit takes varies. C. One should perform a behavior constantly. D. It takes exactly 66 days to form a new habit. 15. What is the best title of the passage? A. Habit — good or not? B. Better habit, better life? C. 21days to form a habit? D. Hit or miss with habits? C 13. B 14. B 15. 由文章第二段“However, that 21-day estimate isn’t true. 由文章第四段中“They recruited 96 people and asked each person to choose one new habit and report each day on whether or not they did the behavior and how automatic the behavior felt. 由文章第五段“The study found that it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. 通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“As you’re drafting your New Year’s resolutions, you may think that it takes 21 days of repeating an action for that action to become a habit. So, you set out to go to the gym for 21 days, thinking that by day 22 heading to the gym will feel automatic — maybe even fun. (然而,21天的估计是不正确的)”、第三段“To figure out how long it actually takes to form a habit, Phillippa Lally, and her team did a series of research. 由此可知,21days to form a habit?(21天养成一个习惯?) Studying for exams long hours or repeated exposure to a stressful situation may lead to burnout(过度劳累). For me, the Easter holidays were so boring that it was impossible to find something fun to do. My mom had suggested that I do some studies since the promotion test was coming up. However, I didn’t follow my mother’s suggestion. Instead, I went outside to seek out my friends to play with. When I had successfully contacted some of my friends, none of them seemed to be much in a playful mood, but one friend Jimmy agreed to play with me. He suggested we go down to the river and just relax there. The river was not far from my home, and we arrived there quickly. Just relaxing on the river bank with nothing but some waste logs, it wasn’t fun for us at first. Clearly what was on our minds was to jump into the river and just take a swim in the clear cool water. So we took off our clothes down to our underwear and walked into the shallow part of the water. The water was truly cool and refreshing and we were starting to have fun then, playing and laughing, as we splashed the cool water onto each other’s faces. Then we started to chase each other around on the river bank and then we ran straight into the river. We were having so much fun that we didn’t notice danger was around the corner. Before Jimmy could know it, and before he could do anything to keep his balance, he lost his footing on a tree branch, which was in the shallow part of the water, and slipped, bringing his whole entire body into the deep water. He tried to resurface from the water but found it extremely hard to keep his head above the water. I was scared to see him struggling in the water but I knew I must rescue him. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After a while, Jimmy recovered from panic and thanked my mom and the neighbors. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I was scared to see him struggling in the water but I knew I must rescue him. I took a deep breath to keep calm. Looking around, I found a waste log, I threw it to him immediately and asked him to hold it and not to give up. At the same time I yelled for help, hoping someone could come to our rescue. Luckily, my mom heard my cries, rushed out of the house and raced towards us. She jumped into the water and reached out her hands to pull him. Several neighbors also quickly joined the rescue. They managed to get Jimmy out of the water. Finally, Jimmy was saved, pale and shivering. After a while, Jimmy recovered from panic and thanked my mom and the neighbors. We hugged each other in tears. I thought my mom would scold me. But she just held us in her arms tightly. She warned us it was dangerous to swim in the river. Both of us felt ashamed and promised never to do that again. This was really a special Easter, one I would never forget. For Jimmy, he had a narrow escape from drowning. For me, I felt the kindness of my neighbors. 词汇激活 行为类 ①放弃:give up/abandon ②大叫:yell/shout ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①感到羞愧:feel ashamed/feel abashed ②冷静的:calm/dispassionate 【点睛】[高分句型1]. B Johannes Fritz, an Austrian biologist, needed to come up with a plan again if he was going to prevent his rare and beloved birds from going extinct. C Because of the toughness along the first route. D. Due to higher temperatures in the summer habitat. 7. Which of the following can best describe Mr. Fritz? A. Honest. B. Innovative. C. Straightforward. D. Demanding. C A flexible film (薄膜) with tiny sensors could make surgery safer for patients with brain diseases. C A math formula to figure out. D. A visual cognition task to conduct. 10. What’s the advantage of the technology according to paragraph 4? A. Improved resolution. B. Broader view. C. Multiple functions. D. More convenience. 11. What is John Ngai’s attitude towards the new technology? A. Critical. B. Cautious. C. Supportive. D. Dismissive. D As you’re drafting your New Year’s resolutions, you may think that it takes 21 days of repeating an action for that action to become a habit. A Habits cannot be noticed easily. B. The amount of time a habit takes varies. C. One should perform a behavior constantly. D. It takes exactly 66 days to form a new habit. 15. What is the best title of the passage? A. Habit — good or not? B. Better habit, better life? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1-20 BCBBA BCBAC BACCA BCABC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
