话题语篇“精练”
Passage 1
Not long ago, there was a show in Baoji, Shaanxi Province. It showed how
pillows(枕头) could be much more than just places to put our heads while we
sleep. 121 ancient pillows were shown in the show. All the pillows are from the
Western Han Dynasty until the early 20th century. The show lasted from January
1st to April 10th this year.
In ancient China, pillows expressed people’s good wishes. Cat-shaped pillows,
18
for example, expressed the hope that a couple would enjoy good health and live
a long life together.
The pillows in the show are made of different materials. They are not just used
in daily life, but also show interesting folk cultures and remind people of the past.
These treasures can help visitors enter the world of the ancient people.
There is a special one. It is the pearl(珍珠) pillow. It was found in
Guangdong. It is made up of 470 pearls, showing the high status of its owner.
Another is a tiger-head pillow, which stands for courage and power. In the old
days, this kind of pillow was often for children, and parents hoped it could bring
them good luck and health.
▲ There are several ideas about it. One idea is that hard pillows better support
the neck and head and are good for the eyes. Also, hard pillows are cooler and
can help lower body temperatures, so people feel more comfortable in summer.

The mobile library is a tricycle(三轮车). The yellow tricycle carries a pink
bookshelf. The bright color catches people’s eye easily. On the bookshelf, there
are lots of books. Every weekend, the mobile library goes around the community.
People can give away or read books.
“Now, people are often too busy to go to the library and read,” Lu, a

families in the community to work together. They designed(设计) the library,

Passage 4
The popularity of community canteens(餐厅) has risen recently. It has
become a “must-visit” place for all age groups.
At noon, the Tongji canteen, one of the city’s more than 1,600 community
canteens in Wuhan is crowded and Chen Hui is waiting in line. She lives alone
and works in a nearby office building. “Preparing my own meals takes too much
time,” she said. “I used to spend two hours cooking but only ten minutes eating.”
For a long time, she depended heavily on food deliveries(外卖). Her parents
always worried about the safety of those meals.
38
The community canteens were built to provide quicker and healthier
meals at fair prices for the old, so they were called “senior canteens” at
first. Now, however, these canteens are becoming popular with young
people as well. Many of them share their dining experiences online. As a
result, more people have started showing up at community canteens.
Some young people haven’t taken action yet. That’s not because they have
doubts about the quality of food. Instead, they worried about taking up the old
people’s places. “They don’t need to worry. We serve the old from 10:30 to
11:30 am and 4:30 to 5:30 pm,” said Li Jiahao, the manager of a local
community canteen. “Apart from(除了) those hours, people of all ages are
welcome.”
Young people are also warmly welcomed by the old. “We’re happy to have
them dining here,” said a 90-year-old man. “They give an ‘elderly canteen’ a
feeling of youth.”
