Donating blood gives a ray of hope to someone in need. That’s why Josephine Michaluk, an 81-year-old woman from Canada, is devoted to helping others in this way. In fact, she is the record holder for the most units of blood donated in a lifetime.
Michaluk’s kindness all began in 1965 at the age of 22 when she attended a blood donation event with her sister. Since then, she has been devoted to donating blood for as long as her body allows her to. Last year, at the age of 80, she officially earned the Guinness World Records title for the most whole blood donated by a female. She had donated 203 pints (品脱) of blood at that point. Thus far, she has reached a total of 209 blood donations, and she isn’t done yet.
The inspiring woman continues to maintain over four donations annually. Her O+ blood type is highly desired in medical settings, as it is a more universal match than any other positive blood types. The Red Cross Donation states that O+ makes up 38% of the population in the United States. This generous woman’s contributions continue to help reinforce the supply of blood that can be life-saving.
The kindhearted Canadian mentions the physical examination that is completed before any donation. This may include checking blood pressure, hemoglobin (血红蛋白) levels, and pulse rate of the potential donor. Even after donating a pint of blood, Michaluk mentions that she feels refreshed.
Each donation of a pint from start to finish takes about 75 minutes. Throughout her lifetime, Michaluk has spent roughly 15, 675 minutes donating blood. She intends to go ahead to help others as long as she can. Photographed with a shirt that reads, “Are you the type to save a life?” she challenges others to step outside of their comfort zone to help people around the world.
4.What can we learn about Michaluk from the first two paragraphs?
A.She donates blood for material rewards.

C.She was encouraged by her sister to donate blood.
D.She will continue to donate blood if physically fit.
5.What does the underlined word “reinforce” probably mean in paragraph 3?
A.Balance. B.Influence. C.Strengthen. D.Ensure.
6.What is a possible reason for mentioning how Michaluk feels in paragraph 4?
A.To draw attention to the health of the elderly.
B.To explain the process of physical examination.
C.To prove blood donation suits people of all ages.
D.To serve as an inspiration to others to donate blood.
7.What does the author think of Josephine Michaluk?
A.Generous. B.Humorous. C.Talented. D.Independent.
【答案】4.D 5.C 6.D 7.A
根据第二段中“Michaluk’s kindness all began in 1965 at the age of 22 when she attended a blood donation event with her sister. Since then, she has been devoted to donating blood for as long as her body allows her to. 以及“ Thus far, she has reached a total of 209 blood donations, and she isn’t done yet.(到目前为止,她已经捐了209次血,而且她还没有结束。)”
根据划线词前面的内容“Her O+ blood type is highly desired in medical settings, as it is a more universal match than any other positive blood types. The Red Cross Donation states that O+ makes up 38% of the population in the United States. 以及划线词后面的内容“... the supply of blood that can be life-saving.(……
根据第四段中“Even after donating a pint of blood, Michaluk mentions that she feels refreshed.( 即使捐了一品脱血,Michaluk也觉得精神焕发。)”
故选A。
There is seemingly endless advice to help parents raise healthy and responsible children. 16 . Aunts, uncles, and even trusted neighbors play a unique role in shaping the little members of our society. Here are some tips on how to be a supportive adult to the kids in your life.
17
The great part about not being a parent to a child is that you get to choose how much you want to engage (参与) and in what ways. Some aunties and uncles want to send cards full of money on birthdays and holidays. 18 . Whatever your style, the first step in being a supportive adult in a kid’s life is understanding your own interests and being clear about what you can and can’t give.
Come up with a routine (常规做法) for staying in touch
Once you know your role, start thinking about how often you want to practice it. Are you checking in every day or once a week? Do you go to all the football games? When it comes to building relationships with kids, try to stick to a schedule that you find proper. 19 . It could be something more like buying the kids lunch every once in a while.
Provide non-judgmental support
Kids might be afraid to share certain things with their parents because they’re afraid they’ll get in trouble. However, in an auntie-child relationship, for example, you’re not the primary caretaker. Unlike being a parent, there’s less pressure for you to always be the perfect role model. In this safe zone (区域), you can listen to kids a little bit more differently than their parents. 20 .
A.Figure out your role
B.Provide kids with various options
C.Others want to do school pickup every week
D.Something good will take place in the future
E.But parents aren’t the only people who help raise kids

17.空格处是本段小标题,由空后的“The great part about not being a parent to a child is that you get to choose how much you want to engage (参与) and in what ways.(不做孩子的父母的好处是,你可以选择你想参与的程度和方式。)”
18.空前“Some aunties and uncles want to send cards full of money on birthdays and holidays.(有些叔叔阿姨想在生日和节假日送装满钱的卡片。)”
19.空前“When it comes to building relationships with kids, try to stick to a schedule that you find proper.(当涉及到与孩子建立关系时,试着坚持一个你认为合适的安排。)”说明了要试着坚持一个你认为合适的安排,空格处应该举例说明这些安排可以是些什么事情,F选项“That could be a simple word of encouragement at times(这有时可能是一句简单的鼓励)”举例说明了这可以是鼓励,因此承接上文,与下文“It could be something more like buying the kids lunch every once in a while.(这可以更像是每隔一段时间给孩子们买午餐。)”
20.空前“In this safe zone (区域), you can listen to kids a little bit more differently than their parents.(在这个安全地带,你可以用不同于父母的方式倾听孩子。)”
