①Lately, researchers have done an experiment (实验) on whether online brain games can improve people’s IQ. More than 8, 600 people aged 18 to 60 were asked to play online brain games designed by the researchers to improve their memory, reasoning and other skills, for at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week. They were compared to more than 2,700 people who didn’t play any brain games, but spent a similar amount of time surfing the Internet. All participants (参与者) were given an ‘IQ test’ before and after the experiment.
②Researchers found the people who did the brain training didn’t do any better on the test after six weeks than people who had simply been on the Internet. “If you’re playing these games like SNAKE (贪吃蛇) because they’re fun, that’s absolutely fine,” said Adrian Owen, the study’s lead author. “But if you’re expecting these games to improve your IQ, our studies suggest they don’t work.”
③It’s also found that brain games which are supposed to improve memory, reasoning and other cognitive (认知的) skills are played by millions of people worldwide, though few studies have examined if the games work. Not many studies suggest the skills used in these brain games transfer (迁移) to the real world.
④Instead of playing brain games, the professor, Kramer said people would be better off getting some exercise. He said physical activity can help produce new brain cells.
⑤Other experts said brain games might be useful, but only if they weren’t fun. “If you set the level for these games to a very high level where you don’t get the answers very often and it really makes you annoyed, then it may be useful,” said Philip.
⑥If people are enjoying the brain games, they probably aren’t being challenged and might as well be playing a regular video game. Philip said people should consider learning a new language or sport if they really want to improve their brain power. “Computer games were not an easy shortcut. Getting smart is hard work.” he added.
14.What is NOT useful to develop brain power according to the passage?
A.Playing fun games. B.Learning a language.
C.Playing challenging games. D.Getting some physical exercise.
15.What can we infer (推断) from the studies in the passage?
A.Many studies show that brain games are a useful way of improving IQ.
B.Few studies suggest the skills used in these brain games transfer to the real world.
C.People may get smarter if they do more physical activities such as running and swimming.
D.Surfing the Internet may be more useful in improving cognitive skills than video games.
16.What does the word “annoyed” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Happy. B.Excited. C.Angry. D.Afraid.
17.Which would be the best title for the passage?
A.How Can We Get Smarter? B.Does SNAKE Make You Smarter?
C.How Can We Play Brain Games Well? D.Is Getting Smarter as Easy as Playing Games?
C
①Art has different kinds of forms. Have you ever seen a painting made of sugar? Sugar painting is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire. The development of the sugar painting art is a long process (过程), and every change in the form of sugar painting reflects the changes in the social life, and it is also a reflection of historical and cultural customs.
②Since the Warring States Period, the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. In the Tang Dynasty, there was huge development in the technology of sugar making. And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of the Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
③Sugar painting is different from normal painting. It needs boiling syrup (熬糖浆) and painting. It seems simple, but it is extremely challenging to make. Sugar painters use syrup as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work in a very short time. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
④However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying recently. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass on the art except those aging sugar painters.
⑤For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China.
18.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A.The method of making sugar paintings. B.The history of making sugar paintings.
C.The difficulty of making sugar paintings. D.The development of making sugar paintings.
19.Why should sugar painters make the work very quickly?
A.To show their excellent skills. B.To avoid syrup becoming hard.
C.To protect the spoon and the table. D.To reduce people’s waiting time.
20.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Sugar painting is popular in people’s daily lives.
B.Sugar painting is dying and it is worrying recently.
C.Sugar painting should be remembered and passed on.
D.Sugar painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand.
21.Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?

I wanted to go and look at a place in the middle of the island that I had found when I was exploring. We started and soon got to it, because the island was only three miles long and a quarter of a mile wide.
This place was a hill about forty feet high. We had a hard time getting to the top. The sides were so steep and the trees were so thick. We walked and climbed around all over it, and found a big hole in the rock. It was a good place to play our game. The hole was as big as two or three rooms, and Jim could stand up straight in it. It was cool there. Jim wanted to put our things there, but I said we didn’t want to be climbing up and down there all the time. Jim said if we had the boat hidden in a good place and put all the things in the hole, we could rush there when anybody was to come to the island. They would never find us without dogs.
Besides, he said that little birds had said it was going to rain. We didn’t want the things to get wet.
So we went back and got the boat, and pulled all the things up there. Then we found a place close by to hide the boat in, among the thick willows. We took some fish off the lines and set them again, and began to get ready for dinner.
The door of the hole was big enough to roll a hogshead (大桶) in, and there was also a good place to build a fire. So we built a fire and cooked dinner. We spread the blankets inside, and ate our dinner. We put all the other things at the back of the hole.
Pretty soon it darkened and began to thunder. Directly it began to rain, and I never saw the wind blow so heavily. It was one of these regular summer storms. It would get so dark that it looked all blue-black outside.
“Jim, this is nice,” I said. “I wouldn’t want to be nowhere else but here. Pass me another piece of fish and some hot bread.”
“Well, if it weren’t for Jim, you wouldn’t stay here. You would stay in the woods, without food, and you would get half-dead from the shower. That’s true, dear. The chickens know when it rains, and so do the birds. I know.”

Pretty, sweet, and always putting on a big smile is how those who know Wang Wanna think of her.
On stage, Wang always takes on a totally different look. For a 27-year-old, half of her life has been spent singing Yueju Opera, which is the most popular opera style following Peking Opera in China. Standing on the stage, she pours herself into the stories, and also adds her own dreams and feelings to the characters she plays.
With the support of her parents, Wang left home at 13 and went to Shanghai to learn Yueju Opera. She said that she did not understand what Yueju Opera was until the second year when she watched Romance of the Western Chamber (西厢记), a Chinese classic. She was deeply touched by the story. That was the moment when she fell in love with the art form she was going to devote herself to. She was trained to play the roles of young men in Yueju Opera since the very beginning and has now grown into an excellent actress in Sbanghai Yueju Opera House.
Wang did a lot for Yueju Opera. On the stage, she tried her best to play a good role. “It could be that among people who come into the theater to watch our show, many come for the first time. A small mistake made on the stage might leave them with a bad feeling of Yueju Opera,” she said.
However, compared with other popular art forms such as modern drama and talk shows, Yueju Opera is still not very familiar to most people. As a result, off the stage, Wang makes some videos to introduce the art of Yueju Opera to young people online. “I really hope to find a way to open a door for people of my age to fall in love with Yueju Opera,” said Wang.
54.How long has Wang Wanna learned Yueju Opera?
55.Why does Wang make those videos to introduce Yueju Opera?
56.What kind of art form do you like best? Why?

Why?

15.推理判断题。根据“He said physical activity can help produce new brain cells.”可知,体育活动可以帮助产生新的脑细胞,可以推断人们多做体育运动可能会变聪明。故选C。
16.词句猜测题。根据“If you set the level for these games to a very high level where you don’t get the answers very often and it really makes you annoyed...”

A.The method of making sugar paintings. B.The history of making sugar paintings.

A.To show their excellent skills. B.To avoid syrup becoming hard.
C.To protect the spoon and the table. D.To reduce people’s waiting time.

A.Sugar painting is popular in people’s daily lives.

【答案】
My role model
My role model is my Maths teacher Miss Li. She is tall and slim and she always has a smile on her face.
Miss Li teaches us Maths. She is so smart that she can work out difficult problems quickly. As a result, all of us admire her very much. Miss Li is also patient. Whenever we have questions, she is ready to explain them to us with great patience. She tries different methods to make it easier for us to understand. With her help, I have made great progress in Maths. To me, Miss Li is more than a teacher. She is a good friend who cares about us all the time. She often listens to my problems and offers me valuable suggestions. I am really lucky to have a teacher like her.
