Writing an informal letter

Formal words or informal ones?
What to write?
Read the following informal letter with questions
Dear Ma,
How are you? How’s Dad? And Ben? Is Ben alright? Has he tripped and broken his leg yet again? I can just imagine poor clumsy Ben falling and crying his eyes out. The poor lad does need to be more careful in his wandering. Very soon he’ll turn ten and start calling himself a big boy!
I’m feeling quite excellent here. The academic requirements keep me so busy! I hardly have time to miss you. Though, sometimes, I do miss eating with you people very much. I can’t wait for vacations to begin! I’m going to gorge on all your dishes like there’s no tomorrow!
I’ve started to develop a keen interest in architecture and am even taking an introductory course in it this term. Who knows. I might even major in it!
I hope Dad’s doing well. And please don’t skip your meals. Ma. I miss you guys a lot and I can’t wait to see you.
Love,
Milo

In your opinion, What is an informal letter?
Pre-writing
What is an informal letter?
It is any letter that is written to a friend, a member of the family, a close relative or to any person who is extremely close to you or well acquainted with you.
Informal letters are written from time to time to deliver good news to people, or to inquire about their health, or to convey a festival’s greetings, or even simply to maintain some contact with a person close to you.
An informal letter is perhaps the most common of letters.
Pre-writing
Read and compare the two letters.
Tips: 主要从用语上去比较-书面或口头、是否缩写、标点符号等。
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing with regard to a flight that I missed due to a mistake by one of your employees.
Two weeks ago I was due to catch a flight to Rome, where I intended to spend four days on holidays. Unfortunately, the attendant at the check-in desk gave me a boarding card for a different flight, and I did not notice the mistake until I arrived at the departure gate and it was too late.
As a result of the error, I was not allowed to board the flight to Rome, and this caused me great inconvenience. I had to book a new flight two days later, which meant that I missed two days of my holiday and I spent an extra $200.
As the mistake was caused by your company, I hope that you will compensate me for the cost of the additional flight, as well as for my taxi fares to and from the airport.
I look forward to receiving your response.
Yours faithfully,
Milo Masson
Dear Jones,
I’m just writing to let you know that I’ve moved house.
As you know, I went for an interview for a job here in London. Well, they gave me the position! It would have been impractical to travel down form Manchester every day, so we’ve found a house here, in a nice part of London called Greenwich.
Our new house isn’t ideal. London prices are crazy, and were only able to afford a one-bedroom flat. But on the bright side, it’s on the ground floor, it’s got nice big windows, and a lovely view out onto the garden.
If you ever fancy a trip to London, you’re more than welcome to come and stay. It would be great see you. From where we live, it’s only a quick ride on the underground into the city centre, so we could do some sight-seeing together.
Keep in touch!
All the best
Milo

Think about the tips to write a good informal letter.
Writing tips
1.Informal letter are very friendly and casual in their tone. Their greatest distinction from a formal letter is this casualness of tone.
2.Informal letters are never official or excessively polite, nor do they contain much terminology.
3.Informal letters also rely a lot on memories, shared secrets, humorous moments of the past and shared dreams or conversations.

Write your first draft including the following details with the correct format of an informal letter.
The first draft
Beginning Dear ___________
The first section Stating the purpose(including
greetings and your apology for not writing back soon) Hi/Hello!______________________
The body section Your new school life, new teachers…(including admire, devotion, be impressed by, be crazy about, sense of humor, be patient, act out…)
The ending section Your eagerness to hear from him. _____________
How are you? I’m very glad to know that you love your new school life but sorry for not writing back soon because I am very busy with my study.
To top it all of, I’m very impressed that you’re pretty crazy about English because of your English teacher’s devotion to teaching, his sense of humor and his acting out what he wants to teach in class. I admire you’ve met such a good teacher. I’m as lucky as you. I have a very nice English teacher too. She is Mrs. Yuan. We all call her Amy. She is really patient with us and very experience in teaching. She not only teaches us knowledge but also shares her funny stories with us and buys us yummy snacks as prizes. I’m feeling quite excellent here.
