She usually left her books and playthings everywhere, and it gave her mom much trouble in picking them up and putting them in the proper places. Some of her books and toys became spoiled (损坏). Her mom had often told Mary the bad result of being so careless. The growing habit of carelessness would make her unhappy, and sometimes annoy her friends. Even worse, it would be of great harm to her all her life. But Mary didn’t listen to her mom. So they argued a lot. One day, Mary made a beautiful toy, a gift for her best friend’s birthday. When her mom asked her to go out into their yard to play. Mary put the toy in her room casually (不经意地). She ran around and played happily there. An hour later, it was time to go to her friend’s birthday party. Mary went back to get the toy. But she couldn’t find it anywhere. Finally, she found the toy broken in the corner. At once she realized that Dash, her pet dog had done this, and she was very angry. Carrying the broken toy to her mom, she couldn’t help crying. Mrs. Armstrong asked Mary if she had left the toy in the place where Dash could easily get it, and Mary answered, “Yes, mom.” “Then you should not be irritated, Mary, because the dog does not know it is wrong to play with your toy. I hope this will be a lesson to you hereafter, to put your things away when you finish.” “I will try,” said Mary. And her mom promised to repair the toy as well as she could. 36.What did Mary and her mom argue about? A.Her books. B.Her playthings. C.Her habit of carelessness. D.Her way of making friends. 37.Why did Mary cry when carrying the gift to her mom? A.Because Dash annoyed her friends. B.Because her gift was broken. C.Because Dash broke her book. D.Because Mrs. Armstrong was mad at her. 38.Which is the right order of the following things? ① Dash broke the toy.                   ② Mary put the toy in her room. ③ Mary found the toy in the corner.   ④ Mom would repair the toy for Mary. During a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, making the Moon’s shadow (影子) fall on the Earth. If the Moon covers the Sun completely, it is called a total (全) solar eclipse. Sometimes, the Moon does not cover the Sun completely, and we see a ring around the Sun. This is called an annular (环形的) solar eclipse. During a lunar eclipse, the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, leaving its shadow on the Moon. Depending on how much of the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon, we can have different kinds of lunar eclipses: total, partial, or penumbral (半影月食). To understand when these eclipses happen, we need to know where the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun are positioned in space. For example, solar eclipses usually happen when the Moon is closest to the Earth, during the new moon. Lunar eclipses happen during the full moon. Compared to solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are much more often seen on the Earth. In Chinese stories from long ago, people thought dragons caused solar eclipses. They believed that two dragons fought and blew up storms which led to an eclipse. To make the dragons stop fighting and bring back light, people would play loud music and set off fireworks. There is also another story about Tiangou, the dog of a god, trying to eat the Moon during a lunar eclipse. To save the Moon, people would make loud noises like playing the drums and shouting to scare away Tiangou. These old tales show how people explained eclipses before scientists understood them. Now we know the real reasons behind these events, but the stories still remind us of how humans wanted to understand space. 41.What is a solar eclipse according to Paragraph 1? A. B. C. D. 42.Which is NOT true about lunar eclipse? A.There are three kinds of lunar eclipses. B.Lunar eclipses happen during the full moon. C.Lunar eclipses usually happen during the new moon. D.Lunar eclipses are more commonly seen than solar eclipses on the Earth. 43.What does the underlined word “positioned” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.placed B.processed C.fallen D.broken 44.According to Chinese folk stories, what causes a lunar eclipse? A.Two dragons blowing up storms. B.A dog trying to eat the Moon. C.Two dragons fighting with each other. D.A dog running after the Moon. 45.Where can you learn more about eclipses? A.https: //www. science. cn/. B.https: //www. artculture. net/. C.https: //www. sports. com/. D.https: //www. travelagency. org/. 【答案】41.D 42.C 43.A 44.B 45.A 【解析】本文主要讲述了日食和月食。 41.细节理解题。根据“During a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, making the Moon’s shadow fall on the Earth.”可知,在日食期间,月亮在地球和太阳之间,使得月亮的影子落在地球上。故选D。 42.细节理解题。根据“Lunar eclipses happen during the full moon.”可知,月食发生在满月期间。选项C“月食通常发生在新月期间。”错误,故选C。 43.词句猜测题。根据“we need to know where the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun are positioned in space.”可知,句中表述我们需要知道地球、月球和太阳在太空中的位置。划线部分“positioned”在文中的意思是“天体在空间的位置信息”,因此最接近“placed”的意思。故选A。 44.细节理解题。根据“There is also another story about Tiangou, the dog of a god, trying to eat the Moon during a lunar eclipse.”可知,句中表述在中国有一个民间故事,天狗试图吃掉月亮导致了月食,故选B。 45.推理判断题。根据全文内容可知,本文是关于天文学现象如月食、日食的信息,这种信息能够在“科学”相关的网站找到,故选A。 D Do you know the reason why we feel tired in the middle of a class? Maybe you would say it is because the teacher’s class is boring. 46 Perhaps this is something you have not paid enough attention to or not yet noticed. Purpose of sleep. 47 Sleep helps our body heal (修复), grow, and stay healthy. It also gives us energy, so we can be active all day. Doctors and health scientists say: When you close your eyes and need to rest, sleep is just the very best! This is more than advice. Sleep time. Enough sleep is important to us. How much sleep do we need? New-born babies sleep most of the time. They can sleep 20—22 hours a day. Children need 10—12 hours of sleep a day. Teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep a day because they need lots of energy to grow into their adult (成人的) bodies. Grown-ups usually need 6-8 hours of sleep to keep active. 48 That is why old people sleep less than young people. Interesting facts. Almost everyone has their dreams while they sleep, but not all of them can tell their dreams clearly when they wake up. 49 More surprisingly, some may even get up in their dreams and walk around. This is called “sleepwalking”. Are you a sleepwalker? Or, is there a sleepwalker around you? 50 It’s not just people that love to snooze (打盹). In fact, many animals have unusual or surprising sleeping habits. Some animals, such as bears and hedgehogs, sleep all through winter. The swift is a very fast bird that can sleep while it flies!
