Staying strong during hard times is a beautiful quality (品质) of human beings. The following two poems talk about this quality.
Bamboo in the Rock
By Zheng Xie
Upright stands the bamboo amid green mountains steep,
Its toothlike root in broken rock is planted deep.
It’s strong and firm (坚固) though struck and beaten without rest,
Careless of the wind from north or south, east or west.
If
By Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming (指责) it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wisely.
…
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
In Zheng’s poem, we can see that bamboo is full of life and never gives up in hard times. Though this poem may seem to be about bamboo, its message is that people should have the same strength. It shows that perseverance does matter.
Kipling calls on people to stay strong in failure or times of trouble and to deal with them in a calm (平静的) way.

C. No matter what happens, everyone should stay happy.
D. Everyone will go through lots of ups and downs.

The shape of a room can’t make you any smarter than you were before, but we do know that the environment we’re in has an influence on us. That includes our ability to pay attention and work on mental tasks.
A recent study shows that big and open rooms, with high ceilings (天花板), make it harder for students to focus on what’s in front of them.
“We wanted to see if being in a large space like a gym while having to focus on an important task would result in a poorer performance,” says Isabella Bower, one of the researchers.
The researchers collected exam results from 15,400 students over 8 years. They compared these scores to expected scores based on the coursework (课程作业) the students had handed in.
In exam rooms with high ceilings, students generally performed less well than those in rooms with a “standard” ceiling height, even after considering things that could influence the results, such as age, gender, exam subject and previous exam experience. ______ For example, what we’re not yet sure is whether the room’s actual size is having an influence, or whether it’s something else related to the environment—like the temperature inside the space, or even how many other students there are. What’s clear, though, is that the environment matters.
Education expert Jaclyn Broadbent says, “Exams influence students’ future careers and lives. It’s important to understand the possible influence of the physical environment on student performance and make necessary changes to ensure all students have a fair chance to succeed.”
32. What’s the author’s purpose in writing Paragraph 1?
A. To prove that the shape of a room can make people smarter.
B. To introduce the topic that the environment can affect (影响) our abilities.
C. To show that people’s mental tasks are not important.
D. To explain the importance of paying attention.
33. Which of the following sentences can be put in ______?
A. Students should study in rooms with high ceilings. B. Environment does not matter at all.
C. These spaces are built for special purposes. D. However, there are still questions we need to answer.
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The shape of a room doesn’t affect students’ exam performance.
B. The researchers have discovered all the factors (因素) that influence students.
C. A student’s performance in exams can be affected by the environment they are in.
D. Standard-ceiling-height rooms are better than big and open rooms with high ceilings.
35. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. Better Environment, Better Performance B. High Ceilings, Low Scores
C. Study Hard, Succeed Early D. Better Education, Better Life

①Sora, a new technology from OpenAI company, has drawn much interest. It’s a text-to-video model that can do amazing things.
②Sora is special in many ways. One is that it can make videos at suitable aspect ratios (合适的屏幕高宽比) for different tools. So, whether you use a smartphone or a computer, the video will fit well. Also, it allows users to check a low-resolution version (低分辨率版本) before getting the final high-quality one. This helps save time and makes the video-making process more efficient (有效率的).
③The videos it creates are really vivid (生动的). It can build complicated (复杂的) scenes with several characters, different movements, and details of objects and backgrounds. For example, if it shows a person walking on a beach, you can see the footprints in the sand and the waves crashing in the background.
④However, Sora isn’t without weaknesses at the moment. It may have trouble clearly showing how things move in a complicated scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if a person eats part of a cake in a Sora-made video, the cake might not look like it’s been bitten into. The model might mix up directions and find it hard to describe events in the right order.
⑤OpenAI is still testing Sora. They’re inviting network experts to look for potential risks and weaknesses in the system. At the same time, they’re also getting feedback (反馈) from creative professionals like designers and filmmakers. It will be used to develop Sora and make it more useful.

A. It can only make short videos for smartphones.
B. It can create videos with suitable screen aspect ratios for different tools.
C. It makes videos with simple scenes and only one character.

37. Why does the author give the example in Paragraph 4?

Once there were five peas in a pod (豆荚). There was a CRACK as the pod broke open. The five peas rolled out into the bright sunshine. A boy found them and said they were fine peas for his toy gun.
The first pea said, “Now I’m flying out into the wide world. Catch me if you can.” And it was gone.
The second said, “I’m going to fly to the sun,” and away it went.
Two peas said, “We will go to sleep wherever we find ourselves.” They fell to the floor and rolled about, adding, “We shall go farther than the others.”
The last pea shouted, “What will happen, will happen!” as it shot out of the toy gun. It fell into a crack (裂缝) under a window filled with moss (青苔) and soft earth.
The window belonged to a tiny apartment. In it lived a poor woman and her daughter. The woman spent long hours cleaning other people’s houses and only returned home at night. Her daughter was ill in bed.
It was springtime. One morning, as the mother was about to go to work, the sun shone beautifully through the little window.
The sick girl looked over at the lowest windowpane (窗玻璃) and asked, “What is that green thing that’s peeping (偷看) in the window?”
The mother went over and opened the window. She said, “It is a little pea that has sprouted (发芽) out here with green leaves! How did it ever get here in the crack? You now have a little garden to look at!”

Staying strong during hard times is a beautiful quality (品质) of human beings. The following two poems talk about this quality.
Bamboo in the Rock
By Zheng Xie
Upright stands the bamboo amid green mountains steep,
Its toothlike root in broken rock is planted deep.
It’s strong and firm (坚固的) though struck and beaten without rest,
Careless of the wind from north or south, east or west.
If
By Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming (指责) it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good nor talk too wisely.

36. What makes Sora different from other similar technologies?
A. It can only make short videos for smartphones.
B. It can create videos with suitable screen aspect ratios for different tools.
C. It makes videos with simple scenes and only one character.
D. It makes videos without any details or background.
37. Why does the author give the example in Paragraph 4?
A. To show Sora’s perfect performance. B. To explain the meaning of a cake.
C. To show Sora’s present shortcomings. D. To show Sora’s safety issues.
38. What is the main idea of this article?
A. Introduce the amazing history of new technology development.
B. Increasing the different uses of Sora in many kinds of fields.
C. Comparing Sora’s strengths and weakness with other models.
D. Explaining the features (特征), problems, and improvement plans of Sora.
39. What’s the best structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
