What did you imagine the future of transportation would look like? Was it up in the air?
A unique vehicle called XTurismo made its appearance at the Detroit Auto Show in early September. The vehicle resembles an ordinary motorbike you’d see on the freeway—a sleek (造型优美的) design with an aerodynamic shape.
But what stirred interest in the vehicle is what it doesn’t have, which is a pair of wheels. And it flies. Instead, it has a landing gear similar to a helicopter and it has six propellers parallel to the ground. Two rotors (转子) are in front of the bike and the other two on the back. In principle, this might be the world’s first flying bike. In the video, you can see the bike hovering at a height of around five feet. The placement of the rotors allows the bike to stabilize midair and stop it from tipping or dipping on one side.
Even with its “earthly” design, it still looks like something out of a science fiction movie. There’s a reason for that too. The founder and CEO of the company behind this vehicle loved Star Wars movies. XTurismo isn’t as fast as its counterparts in Hollywood, but it proudly shows that the technology could work. And it’s achievable. “I wanted to make something from the movie real,” the founder was quoted saying. “It’s a land speeder for the Dark Side.” Creating something that flies isn’t new to the company. The Delaware-based company is an air-mobility company that makes drones and other unmanned vehicles.
XTurismo is already being sold in Japan but the company plans on bringing this vision of the future to the United States in 2023. The estimated price for this baby? A whopping$777,000. The company, however, shared much more ambitious plans in creating a smaller and more efficient version of the craft by 2025. The smaller version is planned to be run by electricity and would cost about $50,000.
“We haven’t unlocked the technology to make more efficient engines for flying vehicles that can take them higher and faster. Moreover, regulations and restrictions also vary from one country to another,” the founder said.
However, even with a 40-minute flight time, the XTurismo is more than enough to inspire engineers about the possibility of flying through your neighborhood.
24. What does paragraph 3 focus on?
A. The related data of the vehicle.
B. The disadvantages of the vehicle.
C. The design theories behind the vehicle.
D. The unique design and flight feature of the vehicle.
25. What is the function of the rotors?
A. To keep the vehicle’s balance in the air. B. To maintain a certain speed.
C. To assist the landing. D. To work as wheels.
26. What can be inferred about the XTurismo?
A. It is the first flying device in the company.
B. It can fly faster than the one in Hollywood movies.
C. It is priced at astronomical $777,000 in the United States.
D. Technical and regulatory factors overshadow its further advances.
27 What is the main topic of this text?
A. An air-mobility company.
B. A smaller version of the XTurismo.
C. A flying bike at the Detroit Auto Show.
D An elementary land speeder in Star Wars movies.
D 25. A 26. D 27. C
根据第三段中“But what stirred interest in the vehicle is what it doesn’t have, which is a pair of wheels. And it flies. Instead, it has a landing gear similar to a helicopter and it has six propellers parallel to the ground. Two rotors (转子) are in front of the bike and the other two on the back. In principle, this might be the world’s first flying bike.
根据第三段最后一句“The placement of the rotors allows the bike to stabilize midair and stop it from tipping or dipping on one side.(转子的位置允许自行车稳定在半空中,并阻止它从倾斜或倾斜在一边。)”
根据倒数第二段创始人所说的话““We haven’t unlocked the technology to make more efficient engines for flying vehicles that can take them higher and faster. Moreover, regulations and restrictions also vary from one country to another,” the founder said.(“我们还没有开发出技术,为飞行器制造更高效的引擎,让它们飞得更高更快。此外,各国的规定和限制也各不相同。”)”可知,XTurismo在技术和法规方面还存在很多挑战,这些因素阻碍了其进一步发展。因此,可以推断出技术和法规因素阻碍了XTurismo的进一步发展。故选D。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段内容“A unique vehicle called XTurismo made its appearance at the Detroit Auto Show in early September. The vehicle resembles an ordinary motorbike you’d see on the freeway—a sleek ( 造型优美的 ) design with an aerodynamic shape.(9月初,一款名为XTurismo的独特汽车在底特律车展上亮相。这辆车和你在高速公路上看到的普通摩托车很像——光滑的设计和空气动力学的外形。)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了在底特律车展上展出的一款名为XTurismo的飞行自行车,包括其设计、功能、价格以及面临的挑战等方面的内容。因此,C选项“A flying bike at the Detroit Auto Show.(在底特律车展上展出的飞行自行车)”符合文章主题。
C
While it’s not news that many individuals turn to arts and crafts for their mental health benefits, most studies have traditionally focused on patient populations. However, recent research indicates that the act of creating art can have positive effects on the general public, and it might even provide a greater sense of fulfillment compared to attending work.
Psychologists’ analysis covered 7,182 participants aged 16 and older sharing their experiences with cultural, digital, and sporting activities. Participants in the survey rated their happiness, anxiety levels, and life satisfaction. They also disclosed whether they felt life was worthwhile and how often they felt lonely. Lastly, the individuals were questioned about their engagement with arts and crafts. Thirty-seven percent had participated in at least one craft activity over the previous 12 months.
The team found that those who practiced arts and crafts activities reported higher happiness, life satisfaction, and feelings that life was worthwhile. On the contrary, the researchers found that crafting did not affect loneliness. This result might be because many artistic processes involve working in solitude.
The study did have some limitations. It’s unclear if crafting is directly causing feelings of well-being. Additionally, Helen Keyes, lead author of the study, admits that the craft activities were linked with only a two percent higher rating regarding the feeling that life was worthwhile. However, she discovered that the boost in life satisfaction was generally higher than what people derive from their jobs. This suggests that arts and crafts can help people who are dissatisfied at work express themselves and find fulfillment — even if they’re not getting paid to paint or knit.
The results are also noteworthy on a population scale. If we are looking for ways to improve the mental health of citizens, increased access to creative activities may be a good starting point. Keyes said, “The next step would be to carry out an experimental study where we measure people’s well-being before and after significant periods of crafting.”
28. What were the participants asked to do in the survey?
A. Create some satisfying artworks.
B. Convey their feelings about crafting arts.
C. Share ways of coping with loneliness.
D. Integrate arts and crafts into their job.
29. What does the underlined phrase “in solitude” mean in paragraph 3?
A. At ease. B. On call. C. By oneself. D. In order.
30. What may Helen Keyes agree with?
A. People working on arts and crafts get less paid.
B. There is no chance that art increases fulfillment.
C. Craftsmen reported having high satisfaction in their jobs.
D. The rise in happiness associated with crafting was small.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. The following study will be more detailed.
B. People’s fulfillment needs to be improved.
C. Mentally healthy people do better in creative activities.
D. The number of participants will rise in the next studies.
B 29. C 30. D 31. A
根据第二段“Psychologists’ analysis covered 7,182 participants aged 16 and older sharing their experiences with cultural, digital, and sporting activities.(心理学家的分析涵盖了7182名16岁及以上的参与者,他们分享了自己在文化、数字和体育活动方面的经历)”可知,在调查中,参与者被要求表达他们对艺术创作的感受。
根据划线词组上文“The team found that those who practiced arts and crafts activities reported higher happiness, life satisfaction, and feelings that life was worthwhile. On the contrary, the researchers found that crafting did not affect loneliness.(研究团队发现,那些参与艺术和手工艺活动的人报告的幸福感、生活满意度以及认为生活有意义的感受都更高。相反,研究人员发现,手工艺活动并不会影响孤独感)”可知,这个结果可能是因为许多艺术过程都需要一个人独自完成,所以不会影响孤独感。由此可知,in solitude意为“独自地”,与选项C“By oneself(独自地)”意思一致。故选C。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Additionally, Helen Keyes, lead author of the study, admits that the craft activities were linked with only a two percent higher rating regarding the feeling that life was worthwhile.(此外,该研究的主要作者Helen Keyes承认,在感觉生活有价值方面,这些手工活动仅使人们对生活的价值感的评价提高了2%)”可推知,Helen Keyes可能会同意这样的观点:与手工制作相关的幸福感上升幅度很小。
根据最后一段“Keyes said, “The next step would be to carry out an experimental study where we measure people’s well-being before and after significant periods of crafting.”(Keyes说:“下一步我们将进行一项实验性研究,测量人们在长时间手工艺活动前后幸福感的变化。”)” 故选A。
D
Venus (金星) is nearly Earth’s size. For a long time, scientists suspected Venus’ core is about as hot as our planet’s. Internal heat is the main cause of things such as volcanoes and quakes.
Between 1990 and 1992, a NASA spacecraft called Magellan snapped radar pictures of Venus. Much later in recent years, two researchers took another look at them and last year, they reported having spotted a volcanic vent (出口). It was changing shape and seemed to be spilling out lava (岩浆). For further study, researchers searched Magellan photos again for signs of volcanic activity.
During their new research, two more sites showing signs of volcanic activity turned up. One was on the western slopes of a large, low volcano. It’s called Sif Mons. The other was Niobe Planitia. During two of Magellan’s passes over the planet, long winding features appeared at both sites. The researchers thought these snake-like features might be due to landslides, not volcanoes. But the features appeared to spill across the land as lava would. They also showed up at fairly flat sites. Landslides wouldn’t be expected here, the researchers said. “In these two instances, the changes in how the surface looks in radar are best explained by there being lava flows,” said Paul Byrne, a planetary scientist who did not take part in the new study.
It wasn’t easy to uncover these signs of active volcanism. Magellan’s data is relatively low-resolution (低分辨率) and Venus has three times as much dry land as Earth does. Byrne now suspects there are other volcanic sites on the planet. “There’s likely much more to be found,” he says. Researchers agree that Venus could have as much volcanic activity as Earth. Practically, for a long time, scientists thought Venus was geologically dead. But we may have to wait to find out for sure. NASA is planning to launch two probes in the 2030s to map the surface of Venus in far more detail.
32. What is the purpose of the author for writing the first paragraph?
A. To make an illogical assumption. B. To give a specific definition.
C. To add background information. D. To express a novel viewpoint.
33. How did the researchers conduct their new study on Venus’ volcanic activity?
A. By reviewing pictures from long ago.
B. By analyzing the previous reports.
C By sending a spacecraft to the Venus.
D. By measuring Venus’ core temperatures.
34. What was the snake-like features interpreted before?
A. Evidence of Venus’ volcanoes. B. Evidence of Venus’ landslides.
C. Signs of Venus’ fairly flat land. D. Signs of Venus’ former surface.
35. Why was it hard to uncover signs of active volcanism on Venus?
A. Venus is much larger than Earth.
B. The researchers have limited time.
C. Most volcanoes on Venus are dead.
D. The researchers lacked clear details.
C 33. A 34. B 35. D

根据文章第一段“Venus (金星) is nearly Earth’s size. For a long time, scientists suspected Venus’ core is about as hot as our planet’ s. Internal heat is the main cause of things such as volcanoes and quakes.(金星的大小几乎和地球一样。很长一段时间以来,科学家们怀疑金星的核心温度和我们的星球差不多。内部热量是火山和地震等现象的主要原因。)”以及第二段中的“Much later in recent years, two researchers took another look at them and last year, they reported having spotted a volcanic vent (出口). It was changing shape and seemed to be spilling out lava (岩浆). For further study, researchers searched Magellan photos again for signs of volcanic activity.(近年来,两名研究人员对它们进行了另一次研究,并在去年报告说,他们发现了一个火山口。它正在改变形状,似乎正在喷出熔岩。为了进一步研究,研究人员再次搜索麦哲伦号的照片,寻找火山活动的迹象。)”可知,第一段介绍了科学家长久以来对金星的猜测:其核心温度与地球在内部热量方面相似,内热是存在火山和地震的主要原因,作者在下文主要介绍了关于金星是否存在火山的研究;由此可知,作者写第一段的目的是添加背景信息。故选C。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段“For further study, researchers searched Magellan photos again for signs of volcanic activity.(为了进一步研究,研究人员再次搜索了麦哲伦号的照片,寻找火山活动的迹象。)” 故选A。

上文“‘Brain rot’ is a slang term referring to people’s excessive consumption of trivial or low-quality content online.(‘大脑腐化’是一个俚语,指的是人们过度消费网络上琐碎或低质量的内容。)”解释了“大脑腐化”的含义;G选项“As a result, all that screen time starts to influence them in many aspects(因此,所有的屏幕时间开始在很多方面影响他们。)”
上文“With the existence of social media, you’re not doing less workout.(有了社交媒体的存在,你并没有减少锻炼。)”提到社交媒体的存在并没有让人们减少锻炼;E选项“Instead, you are attached to one short-form video after another(相反,你一个短视频接一个短视频地看个不停。)”

上文“There are many website owners designing short-form content to compete for that attention or keep them engaged.(有很多网站所有者设计短内容来争夺注意力或保持他们的参与度。)”
下文“‘Media literacy’ is people’s ability to read and interpret information and art they experience. ‘Brain rot’ does harm to such ability, as users are less likely to check facts or think in-depth about the information they’re presented.(‘媒介素养’是人们阅读和理解他们所经历的信息和艺术的能力。‘大脑腐化’对这种能力有害,因为用户不太可能检查事实或对呈现给他们的信息进行深入思考。)”提到“大脑腐化”会降低人们的媒介素养,即阅读和理解信息的能力;A选项“Low critical thinking(批判性思维低下)”与下文提到的“不太可能检查事实或对信息进行深入思考”相呼应,说明“大脑腐化”会导致批判性思维低下,符合题意。故选A。

After moving into the school dormitory last year, I developed habits I never thought I’d care about. At first, they were just rules-strict rules. Turning off lights when leaving a room, keeping showers short, and avoiding wasting water seemed like minor annoyances. Breaking them didn’t come with punishment, but the social pressure was enough to make everyone obey. It felt wrong to waste resources when we were all sharing the same limited supplies. Over time, these rules stopped feeling like chores and started making sense. Conserving resources wasn’t just a school policy; it became a part of how I lived. By the time winter break rolled around. I realized how much I’d changed.
Going home for the first time since the start of the school year was exciting. I had missed my parents, my younger sister Mia, and the comfort of our warm little house on the outskirts of the city. But as soon as I got there, everything felt familiar yet strange. The smell of coffee brewing in the kitchen mixed with the sound of running water from the sink. Quickly, I wandered into the kitchen and froze at what I saw: My dad was washing dishes with the tap running full blast. Water flowed straight down the drain, unused, as he cleaned a plate. My stomach tightened.
“Dad, the water’s still running,” I said sharply, startling him. He glanced up, holding the dripping plate in one hand. “It’s fine,” he replied casually, turning back to wash another dish. “I’ll turn it off in a minute.” But he didn’t. He kept scrubbing while the water rushed out, as if the flow was infinite. At school, we’d learned to be careful with every drop. Water wasn’t something to take for granted, especially in a place like California. Watching him waste it like this made me feel uneasy, even angry. I stepped forward and turned off the tap immediately.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Then I explained the school rules to Dad.

Dad agreed to call on a family meeting.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then I explained the school rules to Dad. I told him how we were taught to turn off lights when leaving a room, take short showers, and most importantly, never waste water. I emphasized that water was a precious resource and we couldn’t afford to let it run down the drain needlessly.I shared my experiences in the dormitory, where everyone was conscious of conserving resources, and explained how this had become a habit for me. Dad listened quietly, his expression gradually changing from casual indifference to one of thoughtfulness. He seemed to finally understand the significance of what I was saying.
Dad agreed to call on a family meeting. That evening, as we all gathered around the table, Dad started the conversation. He told my mom, Mia, and me about our wasteful habits that he had just become aware of. He shared what I had told him about the school’s conservation efforts and how we should adopt similar practices at home. Mia nodded in agreement, and Mom chimed in, saying she hadn’t realized how much water they’d been wasting either. We then discussed practical ways to save water, like using a basin to wash dishes and collecting rainwater for plants. From that day on, our family made a commitment to cherish resources, just like I had learned in school.

27. What is the main topic of this text?
A. An air-mobility company.
B. A smaller version of the XTurismo.
C. A flying bike at the Detroit Auto Show.
D. An elementary land speeder in Star Wars movies.

C. By sending a spacecraft to the Venus.
A Venus is much larger than Earth.
B. The researchers have limited time.
C. Most volcanoes on Venus are dead.
D. The researchers lacked clear details.
