For a long time, we had a fat, fluffy (毛茸茸的), black, stray cat in our neighborhood. Sometimes I saw her sitting on my porch (门廊). Sometimes I saw her hiding under my car. Sometimes she even sneaked (潜行) under my house. Each time I walked close to her, however, she ran away. Finally, I gave up and decided to give her some independence.
Recently, though, something strange happened. This independent stray cat decided to adopt (接纳) my daughter, Beth. Each time Beth walks over to my house from her place up the road, she is welcomed by the stray cat. The cat walks between her legs, purrs and meows (喵喵叫着) until she gets petted.
It happened day after day until this morning when Beth left her a bowl of cat food. I guess that ended the cat’s straying life because Beth even started calling the cat “Alice”. I doubt Alice will ever want to become an indoor cat but she seems to have made Beth her forever friend. Beth has the kindness and love that draws all kinds of animals to her from dogs, to cats, to birds.
Isn’t it amazing how love works its way into our hearts and lives? We are minding our own business and suddenly we have a new pet, or a new friend, or find a moment to share in an act of kindness. Let your love pass onto the lives of others, because to love is to truly live and to live is to truly love.
26. How does the cat feel when seeing Beth come over?
A Scared. B. Happy. C. Angry. D. Independent.
27. What is the writer still not sure of?
A. That the cat may want to eat the bowl of food.
B. That the cat may like her name, “Alice”.
C. That the cat would want to be an indoor pet.
D. That the cat may see Beth as a forever friend.
28. What does the writer want to tell us?
A. Stay away from any stray animal. B. Share kindness and pass love on.
C. Look after yourself while outside. D. Take care of your own business.

Yesterday my parents were heading off on a little holiday and I took them to the train station. Upon arrival, the rain was pouring down.
I got their luggage (行李) out, helped them get to the elevator (电梯) and sent them on their way. As I was walking back to the parking lot, I saw an elderly man walking slowly toward the bus station. Obviously he had no umbrella. I walked over and asked him where he was going. It turned out that he was heading to the same town as I was, just a 15-minute drive. I offered him a lift which he gratefully accepted.
We had a lovely chat on the way and I learned some of his history. He was 87 and heading to the nursing home he had just put his beloved wife in last week. He had his driving license taken away last year so he had to take public transport (交通) every day. A tear fell down his cheek (脸颊) as he told me about his wife. I tried to hold back my own tears but failed. As I dropped him off at the entrance (入口) of the nursing home, I gave him the bunch (束) of flowers I had in the car which I had given to my mom on Mother’s Day.
I would much rather see them enjoyed by him and his wife than just take them back home. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he thanked me gratefully. As I made my way back to my car I totally lost control of my emotions (情绪) and cried like a baby.
I just felt that all the stars shone for some reason and I was meant to meet him today. I was very glad to be able to help him in some way.
29. What does the underlined word “lift” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. giving somebody a free journey in a car. B. helping somebody carry heavy bags.
C. helping somebody take an elevator. D. giving somebody a special gift.
30. What was the elderly man going to do?
A. Move himself to the nursing home. B. Get his driving license back
C. Visit his wife at the nursing home. D. Buy a bunch of flowers for his mom.
31. How did the author feel about the elderly man?
A. He was moved by his story. B. He felt happy for the elderly man’s wife.
C. He was thankful for their chat. D. He was glad to act like a baby again.

It’s common that a Japanese-American bows on the phone—but only in Japanese. Behaviors and manners can become so routine that they appear even when there’s no need for them. Those who are bilingual (双语的) and bi-cultural know first-hand that how we behave can depend on what language we are speaking. Scientists have shown that who you are in the moment can depend on the language you are using at that time.
This is because when you have an experience, the language you are using becomes associated with it. For bilingual people, this means certain memories are more closely associated with one language than the other—a phenomenon called “language-dependent memory”. For example, a childhood memory is more likely to be remembered when the language spoken during that childhood event is spoken again.
How we think and feel can thus change depending on what language we are using. For example, people who are bilingual have an intensified stress response when listening to the words of scolding in a native language. This may be, in part, because our early memories associated with learning a “bad” word or being scolded by our parents happened in our native language.
Because emotions play a key role in how we make decisions, people are often more sensible when making choices in the less emotional foreign language. Language can even influence our decisions. When asked whether they would be willing to give up one person’s life to save a group, people who speak more than one language are much more likely to say “yes” when answering in a foreign language. The unpleasant feelings that can prevent us from making difficult choices are reduced when we’re using a non-native language.
The language we speak has an influence on how we think, feel, and even behave. In a way, knowing different languages can provide people with a variety of views through which to see the world.
32. Why is the example of a Japanese-American mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. To show the influence of culture is huge.
B. To show bowing is Japanese people’s routine.
C. To show Japanese people are polite on the phone.
D. To show one’s use of language affects one’s behavior.
33 What does the underlined word “intensified” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Worse. B. Better. C. Increased. D. Limited.
34. When a person speaks a foreign language, he is likely to ________.
A. make a sound decision B. prevent himself from danger
C. be influenced by other people D. have difficulty making decisions
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. You Are Actually What You Are Speaking.
B. Native Languages Make People Speak More.
C. Different Languages Have Different Influences.
D. Speak Your Native Language in Other Countries.

考查情景交际。I am sorry to hear that听到这个消息我很难过;That’s too bad太糟糕了;Shame on you不知羞耻;What a pity真遗憾。根据“Because my car is broken.”可知,对于不好的消息应该表示遗憾,所以C项不正确。故选C。

考查动词时态。根据“but there is no meat in the fridge.”以及“you some on my way home.”可知,此处指的回来的时候将买一点肉,因此为一般将来时,排除选项BC;此处为即兴决定,而不是早已有的计划,排除选项D。故选A。

A. Scared. B. Happy. C. Angry.

33. What does the underlined word “intensified” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Worse. B. Better. C. Increased. D. Limited.
34. When a person speaks a foreign language, he is likely to ________.
A. make a sound decision B. prevent himself from danger
C. be influenced by other people D. have difficulty making decisions
35. What is the best title for the text?
