Would you spare no effort to escape from the world, or would you stay here like nothing happened? This is the theme of The Truman Show, a film directed by Peter Weir. It is based on a story by Andrew Niccol and is one of the most well- known black comedies across the globe, which appeals to a large audience. The film stars Jim Carrey as an insurance broker Truman Burbank, along with an abundance of other well-known actors. The plot is fascinating and full of excitement. Truman’s life is a show operated by the director for 30 years. He is the only one who doesn't know the island he lives is actually the world's largest studio. All the people and things around him are fake, even his families are actors. Will Truman succeed in getting out of all these? The movie is filled with exciting action scenes where Truman tries to get out of this fake world after spotting the truth. Although the world is fake, Truman is real. He treats others with complete sincere. The lines often make me lost in thoughts. For instance, there is a line saying: In case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good night. This demonstrates us a positive Truman, who always keeps a passionate and hopeful heart. Although his life on the "island" is peaceful, he is still determined to pursue a real world. To sum up, The Truman Show is a classic of black comedy at its best. I firmly enjoyed watching it because it brings me not only laughter, but questions worth reflecting on.
