He liked sports, but no one thought he was talented. During his first year in the university, he had a pain in his right knee, which was so bad that he couldn’t stand up. He went to the doctor for tests. They showed that he had cancer. He was going to lose his leg and be given an artificial one. Terry’s family and friends all gave him fantastic support. Terry said that he knew all those people really cared and helped him. He decided to face it with bravery. One night Terry was looking through an article about Dick Traum, who also had an artificial leg and had run in the New York Marathon. “If he can do it,” thought Terry, “I can, too. In fact, I’ll run across Canada and raise money for cancer research. It will be a Marathon of Hope!” For the next 16 months, Terry had special treatments for his cancer. And then he also began to run a little every day. Each day he ran a little farther. It is 5, 300 miles across Canada. Terry hoped to run thirty to forty miles a day so that it would take him six months. Most of all, he hoped to raise $1 million for cancer research. Because Terry had an artificial leg, running wasn’t easy or straightforward. He had to move by jumping on one foot twice and then take a long step with his real leg. Although it looked awkward, he still kept on running. His action made people join him as he ran: children, football stars, wheelchair athletes and even his brother, Darrell. As Terry ran, people waved and cheered. So much money was donated that the volunteers used large garbage bags so everyone could give. Then, outside Thunder Bay, Ontario, Terry felt a sharp pain in his chest. The pain was from cancer; this time in his lungs. He had to abandon the Marathon after 3, 339 miles. He told the people before he left, “I won’t give up. I just hope people will continue to give money.” And they did. Just under $25 million was given. Terry received numerous awards. At 22, he was the youngest Canadian to ever receive Canada’s highest award, the Companion of the Order of Canada. 24. What made Terry decide to run across Canada? A. His passion for Marathon. B. A desire to live a normal life. C. The support of his family and friends. D. The exciting experience of Dick Traum. 25. People joined him when he ran mainly because A. they were moved by the scene of Terry’s running B. they serve a as volunteers in the marathon C. they considered Terry as a great hero D. they loved running very much 26. Why did he finally stop the marathon? A. He collected enough money for the donation. B. His family and friends persuaded him to abandon it. C. He got great pain in his body because of the cancer. D. Running with the artificial leg wasn’t straightforward. 27. Which of the following words can best describe Terry? A. Generous. B. Independent. C. Determined. D. Creative. C ON TUESDAY, the Shenzhen team of Blue Sky Rescue, a nonprofit civil rescue team, confirmed that two of its members had died trying to rescue 24 tourists who had got into difficulties. According to the official news, it was on Monday that the rescue team received a telephone call from 24 travelers, who were trapped in a river valley, with a storm on the way and one of the female travelers being badly injured. The team responded immediately. However, when they helped the travelers, two team member got trapped by the rising river water. The next day, they were confirmed dead. The two heroes who gave their own lives to save others are being mourned by all. Who can rescue the rescuers? The question aroused a heated discussion among people. Most of them think we would rather such "heroic deeds" were not required. However, that depends on people being more sensible. In the past several years, there have been many cases in which travelers, ignoring the signs saying certain areas are dangerous and off﹣limits, still have kept on "exploring" unpaved and unmarked regions and ended up needing to be rescued. By so doing, they put not only their own lives at risk but also the lives of those who go to their aid. In this case, although the travelers may have been in an authorized area, they ignored the warnings of an approaching typhoon. It was extremely reckless(鲁莽) of them to travel into the wild on such a day, as the local weather forecast had warned people against the upcoming typhoon. Two rescuers have lost their lives because of the thoughtlessness of others. The law has already made it clear that if a traveler or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized regions, they must bear the costs of the rescue operations. The regulations need strengthening to deter travelers from putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk. 28. What happened to a woman traveler? A. She lost her way. B. She was trapped on the mountain. C. She died in the storm. D. She was seriously hurt. 29. What is the writer's attitude towards some tourists? A. Critical. B. Sympathetic. C. Understanding. D. Admiring. 30. What does the underlined word deter in the last paragraph mean? A. protect. B. keep. C. excuse. D. separate. 31. What can be a suitable title for this passage? A. The Blue Sky Rescue. B. Who can rescue the rescuers? C. Who should bear the costs? D. A deadly typhoon. D Palaces are known for their beauty and splendor, but they offer little protection against attacks. It is easy to defend a large building, but usually these buildings are not designed with the comfort of a king in mind. When it comes to structures that are both beautiful and defensive, the European castle is a big success. Castles were originally built in England by the Normans in 1066. They built towers and walls to secure the land they had taken. These castles provided the Normans with a quiet and safe place. They also served as bases of operation for attacks. In this way castles served both defensive and offensive roles. Besides, castles served as offices for governors. Those that were socially beneath the governor would come to report affairs and express their respect. They would address problems, handle business, feast, and enjoy festivities in castles. So castles served as social centers as well. The first castles were made from earth and wood, and they were likely to suffer from attacks by fire. Then wooden castles were gradually replaced by stone, which greatly increased the strength of these towers and walls. However, attackers could throw flaming objects into castles through the windows or burn the wooden doors. This led to moving the windows and entrances off of the ground floor and up to the first floor to make them more difficult to access. During the Middle Ages, attacks increased in regularity, so castle defenses were updated. Arrow-slits were added. They were small holes in the castle, which allowed defenders to fire without being hurt. Towers were built from which defenders could provide fire on both sides. The towers were connected to the castle by wooden bridges, so that if one tower fell, the rest of the castle was still easy to defend. A lot of rings of castle walls were constructed, so that even if attackers went past one wall, they would be caught on a killing ground between inner and outer walls. All of these increased the defense of castles. The end of castles can be attributed to gunpowder. During the 15th century, artillery, a kind of large guns, became powerful enough to break through stone walls. This greatly made the role of castles less effective. Though castles no longer serve their original purposes, remaining castles receive millions of visitors each year who wish to experience the situations of ancient times. 32. What was the original function of castles according to the passage? A. They served as tourist attractions. B. They were important social centers. C. They marked religious ceremonies. D. They were built for use in emergencies. 33. The reason why wooden castles were replaced by stone castles was that . A. stone castles cost less money B. stone castles offered better defense C. wooden castles were uncomfortable D. wooden castles took a long time to build 34. Which of the following showed an improvement in castle defenses? A. Castles were totally separated by stones. B. Arrow-slits were made in large quantities. C. Rings of walls were built to defend the towers. D. Windows and entrances were moved to the higher floor. 35. What is the best title of the passage? A. Fancy Living: Learning about Castles B. Normans: Bringing Castles to England C. A History of Castles: The Rise and Fall of Castles D. It appeared to have taken over the entire room. I knew that my mom had spent all day happily sewing as she pictured me proudly walking from class to class with it over my shoulder. The next day I was to start seventh grade at a new school, in a new state, in the middle of the school year. I was nervous and excited. That first day at school I heard the whispers.“Have you seen the new girl? She’s from California. Did you see that big bag?”Then there were giggles (咯咯笑). Because I started school in the middle of the year, all of the lockers had been assigned to other kids. There was no extra locker available for me, so I was forced to carry all my stuff around in the oversized bag. Wild stories flew back and forth about what I kept in the bag that never left my side. Drugs? Some kids wondered. Clothes? Is she homeless? There was nothing interesting in that bag, just my coat during cold weather, school books, papers and pens. Eventually, most students pretty much ignored me, but some of the kids made fun of my bag. People grabbed at it, pretended to treat it like a dog and tried to drop litter into it. My teachers didn’t seem to notice, probably because I didn’t ever complain or ask for help. As the year progressed, I started to hate that bag. I blamed all my problems on it. I felt helpless, alone and homesick for California and my old friends. One day toward the end of the school year, my math teacher assigned each student a partner to work with on word problems. I was told to work with Debbie, a popular girl who was in several of my classes. She smiled and waved me over toward her desk, so I grabbed my bag and quietly moved toward her. As I sat down, I realized that I had never spoken to her before. “So, what’s in the bag?" Debbie asked loudly with a smile. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then Debbie started to laugh, not at me, but at the situation. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024~2025学年度(上)沈阳市五校协作体期末考试 高一年级英语试卷 时间:120分钟 分数:150分 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 1. 【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 What will Sophia do at the library? I’m honored to talk about my own feelings about living abroad at this monthly meeting of our club. Moving to a new country can be challenging. When I first moved to Shanghai from the US because of a job opportunity, I felt really nervous. I had no relatives or friends here. The company found me a nice place to live. This made the adaptation much smoother. Although I did some research beforehand, in those first few weeks, simple tasks like grocery shopping and using public transportation seemed confusing. I tried to find someone who was also from the US, but it wasn’t easy. I decided the best approach to getting to know the city was to slowly experience it. So on weekends, I would visit some new neighborhoods or parks, chatting with the locals along the way. Though my Chinese was only at a basic level, people were always friendly and patient. Within a month, Shanghai started to feel like home. Looking back, I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone. It is still two years before I return to the US, but I value my time in Shanghai very much. I want to say that though change can be hard, sometimes it’s the best way to grow. That’s all. Thanks for your attention. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) A Many places around the world host marathons that aim to provide their runners with a special experience. 25. People joined him when he ran mainly because A they were moved by the scene of Terry’s running B. they serve a as volunteers in the marathon C. they considered Terry as a great hero D. they loved running very much 26. C. Determined. D. Creative. 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. C 27. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述的是Terry Fox的故事。他从未想过他会过上非同寻常的生活。虽然他喜欢运动,但没有人认为他有天赋。然而,Terry的特殊之处在于他的决心。在患上癌症并装上假肢后,他决定面对疾病。他被认为是他人生各个领域的赢家。 【24题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“One night Terry was looking through an article about Dick Traum, who also had an artificial leg and had run in the New York Marathon. “If he can do it,” thought Terry, “I can, too. In fact, I’ll run across Canada and raise money for cancer research. It will be a Marathon of Hope!”(有一天晚上,Terry在阅读一篇关于Dick Traum的文章,他也是一个假肢患者,曾参加过纽约马拉松比赛。Terry想:“如果他能做到,我也能做到。事实上,我要跑遍加拿大,为癌症研究筹款。这将是一场希望的马拉松!”)”可知,Terry在阅读了一篇关于Dick Traum的文章后,决定也要像Dick Traum一样横穿加拿大并为癌症研究筹集资金。Dick Traum也有一条假肢,并且参加过纽约马拉松。因此,是Dick Traum的激动人心的经历激发了Terry的决定。故选D。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中“Although it looked awkward, he still kept on running. His action made people join him as he. ran: children, football stars, wheelchair athletes and even his brother, Darrell. As Terry ran, people waved and cheered. So much money was donated that the volunteers used large garbage bags so everyone could give.(虽然看起来很尴尬,但他还是继续跑。 故选A。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第六段中“Then, outside Thunder Bay, Ontario, Terry felt a sharp pain in his chest. The pain was from cancer; this time in his lungs. He had to abandon the Marathon after3.339 miles.( 然后,在安大略省的桑德贝城外,Terry感到胸口一阵剧痛。 因此,最能描述特里的词是C选项“Determined(坚定的)”。故选C。 C ON TUESDAY, the Shenzhen team of Blue Sky Rescue, a nonprofit civil rescue team, confirmed that two of its members had died trying to rescue 24 tourists who had got into difficulties. C She died in the storm. D. She was seriously hurt. 29. What is the writer's attitude towards some tourists? A. Critical. B. Sympathetic. C. Understanding. D. Admiring. 30. What does the underlined word deter in the last paragraph mean? A. protect. B. keep. C. excuse. D. separate. 31. What can be a suitable title for this passage? A. The Blue Sky Rescue. B. Who can rescue the rescuers? C. Who should bear the costs? D. A deadly typhoon. 【答案】28. D 29. A 30. B 31. B 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇新闻报道。主要讲述了星期二,国内非营利性民间救援队“蓝天救援”深圳队证实,其两名成员在试图营救陷入困境的24名游客时死亡。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。 根据第二段“According to the official news, it was on Monday that the rescue team received a telephone call from 24 travelers, who were trapped in a river valley, with a storm on the way and one of the female travelers being badly injured. (根据官方消息,在周一,救援队接到了24名旅行者的电话,他们被困在河谷中,途中有暴风雨,一名女旅行者身受重伤)” 可知,女旅客受了重伤。故选D。 【29题详解】 观点态度题。根据第五段“By doing so, they put not only their own lives at risk but also the lives of those who go to their aid. (这样,他们不仅使自己的生命处于危险之中,而且使那些寻求援助的人的生命受到威胁)”可知,作者对一些游客是持批判态度的。A. Critical批判的;B. Sympathetic同情的;C. Understanding理解的;D. Admiring赞赏的,故选A。 【30题详解】 词义猜测题。根据上文“The law has already made it clear that if a traveler or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized regions, they must bear the costs of the rescue operations. Who can rescue the rescuers?",可知,文章的最佳标题应该是”谁能拯救救援者”。故选B。 D Palaces are known for their beauty and splendor, but they offer little protection against attacks. D Windows and entrances were moved to the higher floor. 35. What is the best title of the passage? A. Fancy Living: Learning about Castles B. Normans: Bringing Castles to England C. A History of Castles: The Rise and Fall of Castles D. Defending Castles: Technologies Used to Defend Castles 【答案】32. B 33. B 34. D 35. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 "So, what is in the bag?" Debbie asked loudly with a smile. Her question was the last straw to break me down. Face blushing red, I dumped the bag on the table and grumbled in a choking voice, "Nothing, just my coat, books, papers and pens. Why you all tease my bag which brought me a whole year of bad luck and loneliness? " No longer able to contain my emotion, I buried my head in my arm and let tears of grievance wash over my face. Then Debbie started to laugh, not at me, but at the situation. Debbie told me every stitch of the bag was made of my mother's selfless love. When being laughed at, I should let them. Meanwhile, I should open myself up and make friends proactively so that I could better fit in.Debbie's gentle words, like a shining torch, dispelled all the darkness in my life. Through my misty eyes, I knew I would take her advice and embrace my new life with my bag. 词汇激活 行为类 ①抱怨:grumble/complain ②抑制:contain/restrain ③嘲笑:laugh at/make fun of 情绪类 ①无私的:selfless/unselfish ②温柔的:gentle/tender 【点睛】【高分句型1】Why you all tease my bag which brought me a whole year of bad luck and loneliness?(由关系代词which引导限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】When being laughed at, I should let them.(由连接词when引导的时间状语从句的省略) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$第一节听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。现在你有5秒钟的时间阅读第一小题的有关内容。I'm going to the library to return some books.
