This approach focuses on creating effective solutions for others through deep understanding, rather than emphasizing success or money. “I think it’s important to include understanding others in curriculums because we’ve become such a global society, but we all still kind of live in our own little bubble. Some of our kids don’t really go outside of our town,” said Greenblatt. Greenblatt decided the best product to develop with this process would be a pair of shoes. She noticed when first graders tried designing a backpack for a friend, they would focus on their own needs. “Shoes weren’t too far out of the world of their own little reality, but they were completely removed from themselves,” she said. The concept was that students would research the journey to school children from different regions of the world experienced, then create a shoe design for them. The students watched documentaries, researched and even walked on Legos without shoes to better understand the challenges children in other regions faced. To help deepen the learning on a scientific level, Greenblatt encouraged kids to use animal adaptability features. “Elementary kids don’t have the limitations in their brain of, ‘Oh, that’ s not possible, ‘or’ That’s gonna cost too much money,” Greenblatt said. “One student came up with the idea that like, starfish grow and if we made shoes out of a starfish type skin, that it could grow with the kid as their foot was growing. Ideas like that might not be possible now, but they’re going to be.” Once their ideas were generated, the students were able to put them to the test. If an idea didn’t work toward their goal, they were encouraged not to give up, but instead to go back in the process and adjust, or try a new idea. “Now, our kids are able to care about kids around the world, and literally put them in their shoes, we think our kids will make better global citizens for our world.” Greenblatt said proudly. 4. What did Greenblatt intend to do? A. Distinguish her profession. B. Teach money-making methods. C. Promote the school beyond the town. D. Develop students’ global awareness. 5. Why did Greenblatt choose shoes for her students to design? A. To relate them to others. B. To challenge them mentally. C. To improve their design ability. D. To draw their attention to real life. 6. How did the starfish idea sound to Greenblatt? A. Absurd. B. Creative. C. Practical. D. Costly. 7. What were the students encouraged to do during testing? A. Concentrate. B. Supervise. C. Persevere. D. Compete. D 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段““I think it’s important to include understanding others in curriculums because we’ve become such a global society, but we all still kind of live in our own little bubble. Some of our kids don’t really go outside of our town,” said Greenblatt. (Greenblatt说:“我认为在课程中加入对他人的理解很重要,因为我们已经成为一个全球性的社会,但我们仍然生活在自己的小泡泡里。我们的一些孩子真的没有走出过我们的城镇。”)”和最后一段““Now, our kids are able to care about kids around the world, and literally put them in their shoes, we think our kids will make better global citizens for our world.” Greenblatt said proudly.(“现在,我们的孩子能够关心世界各地的孩子,真正地为他们着想,我们认为我们的孩子会成为世界上更好的全球公民。”格林布拉特自豪地说)”可知,Greenblatt想要培养学生的全球意识,让他们成为更好的全球公民。故选D项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中““Shoes weren’t too far out of the world of their own little reality, but they were completely removed from themselves,” she said. (“鞋子离他们自己的小现实世界并不太远,但它们完全脱离了他们自己,”她说。)”和第四段中“The concept was that students would research the journey to school children from different regions of the world experienced, then create a shoe design for them.(设计理念是,学生们将研究来自世界不同地区的孩子们上学的经历,然后为他们设计一款鞋子)”可知,鞋子对于学生来说,既不完全脱离现实,又能让他们在设计时考虑他人的需求,有助于培养他们的全球意识,让他们关注到他人。 故选A项。 根据倒数第三段中Greenblatt的话“One student came up with the idea that like, starfish grow and if we made shoes out of a starfish type skin, that it could grow with the kid as their foot was growing. Ideas like that might not be possible now, but they’re going to be. (一个学生提出了这样的想法,海星会生长,如果我们用海星类型的皮肤做鞋子,它可以随着孩子的脚一起生长。像这样的想法现在可能还不可能实现,但将来会的)”可知,Greenblatt认为海星鞋的想法虽然现在可能无法实现,但将来是有可能的,说明她对这个想法持肯定态度,认为它很有创意。故选B项。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Once their ideas were generated, the students were able to put them to the test. If an idea didn’t work toward their goal, they were encouraged not to give up, but instead to go back in the process and adjust, or try a new idea. (一旦他们的想法产生,学生们就能够对其进行测试。如果一个想法不能实现他们的目标,他们被鼓励不要放弃,而是回到过程中进行调整,或者尝试一个新的想法)”可知,在测试过程中,学生们被鼓励要坚持下去,不要轻易放弃。故选C项。 C Every July, the western sandpiper migrates from Alaska to as far as Peru. The wetlands of California’s Central Valley offer sandpipers and many other species a crucial place to rest and feed along the way. However, farming development have destroyed most of these wetlands, causing a decline in migrating birds. In 2014, the Migratory Bird Conservation Partnership launched BirdReturns, a program that pays farmers to create “pop-up” wetlands. Rice farmers in the Central Valley flood their fields when the growing season ends, generally around November, and keep them flooded until February to help the leftover plants break down. They plant their crop in the spring. The program pays rice farmers to flood their fields a bit earlier in the fall and leave them flooded later in the spring. This creates habitat when the migratory birds need it most. Daniel Karp a researcher at UC Davis, sees the program as a rare conservation solution. Most of the time, small farms that grow many different crops do good to conserve biodiversity. But although rice farmers grow only one crop, their large fields are an exception. The BirdReturns program is far from a complete solution, but “it’s this strange rare circumstance where you have a large agricultural system that can support wildlife at the same time,” Karp says. To figure out where these alternative habitats are most needed, BirdReturns uses data from eBird — a community science project composed of birders’ recorded sightings — to assess where and when migratory birds typically land in the Central Valley. Researchers combine that information with satellite data showing when and where surface water is most available, and where it’s needed. The question remains of how this practice can continue sustainably, especially as climate-change-fueled drought reduces water availability. “We thought we could rely on protected areas to conserve habitat globally, and we now know that’s not enough, and we need to support that with a set of different conservation strategies,” says Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela, a conservation ecologist at UC Santa Cruz. Although the solution shouldn’t be the only answer, she says, it is “a piece of the puzzle.” 8. Why was the program launched? A. To protect wetlands. B. To attract rare species. C. To offer birds resources. D. To increase farmers’ production. 9. What can be inferred from Karp about the program? A. It is a win-win solution. B. It is a standardized system. C. It is profitable in the long run. D. It is suitable for small farms. 10. Why does the program turn to eBird? A. To make wise decisions. B. To create a new project. C. To observe bird behavior. D. To ensure water availability. 11. What does Natalia think is most important to address conservation challenges? A. Joint projects. B. Water sources. C. Diverse methods. D. BirdReturns’ model. C 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第一段中“The wetlands of California’ s Central Valley offer sandpipers and many other species a crucial place to rest and feed along the way. However, farming development have destroyed most of these wetlands, causing a decline in migrating birds. In 2014, the Migratory Bird Conservation Partnership launched BirdReturns, a program that pays farmers to create ‘pop-up’ wetlands.(加利福尼亚中央山谷的湿地为鹬和许多其他物种提供了一个关键的中途休息和觅食之地。然而,农业发展破坏了这些湿地中的大部分,导致迁徙鸟类数量下降。2014年,迁徙鸟类保护合作项目推出了BirdReturns项目,该项目支付农民费用来创建“临时”湿地)”可知,该项目启动的目的是为了保护迁徙鸟类的栖息地,旨在通过创建湿地为候鸟提供资源,也就是为鸟类提供栖息地和食物等资源。故选C项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Most of the time, small farms that grow many different crops do good to conserve biodiversity. But although rice farmers grow only one crop, their large fields are an exception. The BirdReturns program is far from a complete solution, but ‘it’s this strange rare circumstance where you have a large agricultural system that can support wildlife at the same time,’ Karp says.(大多数时候,种植多种不同作物的小农场对保护生物多样性有好处。但是,尽管稻农只种植一种作物,他们的大片田地却是个例外。BirdReturns 项目远非一个完整的解决方案,但卡普说,“这是一种罕见的奇特情况,在这种情况下,你有一个大型农业系统,同时可以支持野生动物”)”可推知,Karp认为该项目是一个双赢的解决方案,既能支持农业生产,又能保护野生动物。故选A项。 根据第四段中“To figure out where these alternative habitats are most needed, BirdReturns uses data from eBird — a community science project composed of birders’ recorded sightings — to assess where and when migratory birds typically land in the Central Valley.(为了弄清楚这些替代栖息地最需要的地方,BirdReturns使用了eBird的数据——一个由观鸟者记录的目击事件组成的社区科学项目——来评估迁徙鸟类通常在中央山谷的哪里和何时降落)”可知,借助 eBird 的数据是为了更科学地判断哪里最需要替代栖息地,从而做出明智的决策,来更好地实施项目。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“‘We thought we could rely on protected areas to conserve habitat globally, and we now know that’s not enough, and we need to support that with a set of different conservation strategies,’ says Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela, a conservation ecologist at UC Santa Cruz.(加州大学圣克鲁斯分校的保护生态学家Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela说:“我们曾认为我们可以依靠保护区在全球范围内保护栖息地,现在我们知道这并不够,我们需要用一系列不同的保护策略来支持它”)”可知,Natalia认为解决保护挑战最重要的是采用多样化的方法。故选C项。 D As a coach, I generally encourage my MBA students at Stanford to keep a journal. But even if a journal is simply a series of informal, private notes, the common purpose is to ensure that the learning continues after the end of the class experience. I’ve kept a personal journal for decades. The sum of this experience has convinced me of the value of the practice, and it’s unequivocally consistent with what I know about experiential learning. But what are the hidden processes that make journal writing a meaningful activity? The work of neuroscientist Joseph Ledoux suggests some answers. Ledoux’s work has focused on memory, emotions and cognition (认知), and he talked about memory with The Edge: Like many scientists in the field of memory, I used to think that a memory is something stored in the brain and then accessed when used. Then, in 2000, a researcher in my lab, Karim Nader, did an experiment that convinced me, and many others, that our usual way of thinking was wrong. In a nutshell, what Karim showed was that each time a memory is used, it has to be restored as a new memory in order to be accessible later. The old memory is either not there or is inaccessible. In short, your memory about something is only as good as your last memory about it. So journaling drives us to access our memories of an experience, creates another, more recent memory of that experience, and creates a physical record of those memories to which we can return in the future. Ledoux’s work on emotion and cognition suggests an even more powerful reason for the value of journaling. A key theme for Ledoux is the distinction between emotional memories, which he defined in an interview with John Brockman as “procedural memories that are in the brain’s systems, but not reflected in consciousness” and cognitive memories, which he defined as “the kind of memory we usually have in mind when we use the word memory in everyday speech.” So journaling after emotional experiences allows us to process them when we can understand them cognitively and (in some cases) consciously for the first time. 12. Which has the similar meaning to “unequivocally” in paragraph 2? A. Unexpectedly. B. Entirely. C. Slightly. D. Awkwardly. 13. What does Karim’s experiment show about memory? A. It should be further explored. B. It sometimes gives wrong information. C. It is improved with time. D. It is dynamic and reconstructive. 14. What can be inferred about emotional memories? A. They should be defined in another way. B. They can be recalled in a conscious way. C. They are processed in the brain intentionally. D. They are more important than cognitive memories. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. The value of journaling. B. The form of memories. C. The principle of learning. D. The nature of cognition. B 13. D 14. B 15. 根据划线词上文“I’ve kept a personal journal for decades. The sum of this experience has convinced me of the value of the practice (我写日记已经有几十年了。这些经验的总结使我确信实践的价值)”和下文“...consistent with what I know about experiential learning(……与我对体验式学习的理解是完全一致的)”可知,作者是通过自己的实践证实了写日记的价值,这与他对体验式学习的理解完全一致。由此推知,修饰形容词consistent(一致的)的副词unequivocally是再次强调这种一致性,意为“毫不含糊地,完全地”,与entirely意思相近。故选B项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“In a nutshell, what Karim showed was that each time a memory is used, it has to be restored as a new memory in order to be accessible later. The old memory is either not there or is inaccessible. In short, your memory about something is only as good as your last memory about it. (简而言之,Karim所表明的是,每次使用记忆时,都必须将其恢复为新的记忆,以便以后能够访问。旧的记忆要么不存在,要么无法访问。简而言之,你对某件事的记忆只和你最后一次对它的记忆一样好)”可知,每次使用记忆时,都必须将其恢复为新的记忆,且你对某件事的记忆只和你最后一次记起它一样。由此推知,Karim的实验表明记忆是动态可变的,可以进行重构。故选D项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“So journaling after emotional experiences allows us to process them when we can understand them cognitively and (in some cases) consciously for the first time. (因此,在情感体验后写日记可以让我们在首次能够从认知上以及(在某些情况下)有意识地理解它们时对其进行处理)”可推知,情感记忆可以以一种有意识的方式被回忆起来。故选B项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“But even if a journal is simply a series of informal, private notes, the common purpose is to ensure that the learning continues after the end of the class experience. (但即使日记只是一系列非正式的私人笔记,其共同目的也是确保学习在课堂体验结束后可以继续进行)”、第五段中“So journaling drives us to access our memories of an experience, creates another, more recent memory of that experience, and creates a physical record of those memories to which we can return in the future (因此,写日记会促使我们获取对某一经历的记忆,创造出另一种,更近期的记忆,并将这些记忆记录下来,以便我们在未来能够回到这些记忆中)”和最后一段中“So journaling after emotional experiences allows us to process them when we can understand them cognitively and (in some cases) consciously for the first time.(因此,在情感体验后写日记可以让我们在首次能够从认知上以及(在某些情况下)有意识地理解它们时对其进行处理)”可知,文章主要介绍了写日记的价值,通过神经科学家Joseph Ledoux的研究来阐述写日记如何帮助我们处理和记忆经历,特别是情感经历。 故选A项。 In today’s digital world, having strong information literacy skills is essential for high school students. Again, like every Monday. My mom knew how to make seven different meals, one for each day of the week. She kept all seven recipes in a pink folder, each one labeled with a day of the week. And that was our meal plan. I stared at the dull mass my mom placed next to my corn. “I’m not really hungry,” I said, pushing my food back and forth on my plate. “Me neither,” said the twins. My mom sighed, looking disappointed. “Malia,” she said, “you’re eleven. You should be setting an example for your brother and sister. Now please, just pick up your forks and eat.” Normally, I would have. But today I was feeling mean. “All of it tastes awful,” I said. My mom’s eyes flashed. But her words remained calm. “Malia,” she said. “It’s OK if you don’t like my cooking. But it’s not OK to be rude.” The next day I was sitting in our school’s kitchen classroom, thinking about what had happened the day before when Mr. Bruin, our teacher, interrupted. “I’ve got exciting news,” he said. Exciting news? The class looked expectantly at Mr. Bruin. “To finish off our unit on kitchen skills, we’re having a competition. And the first-place prize is the newest book in the Cave of the Dragons series,” said Mr. Bruin, holding up a copy for everyone to see. The class erupted into cheers. At break times, all anyone could talk about was the upcoming cooking competition. “I’m totally going to win!” “My dad’s the best cook ever. I’ve got talent in my genes (基因)!” I thought about my genes, but I still wanted to participate in this competition. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the way home after failing the competition, I thought of my mum’s meatloaf. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I thought about my genes, but I still wanted to participate in this competition. I knew my mom’s cooking wasn’t great, but I wanted to prove that I could do better. I started to practice at home, using the basic skills that Mr. Bruin had taught us in class. The day of the competition arrived. I felt nervous and excited. I combined the ingredients with creativity, turning them into a dish that represented my growth as a cook. But as the competition ended and the results were announced, I didn’t win first place. On the way home after failing the competition, I thought of my mum’s meatloaf. As I walked through the door, the smell of my mom’s cooking filled the house. It was comforting and familiar. Seeing my expression, mother knew the result. She hugged me and said, “It’s okay, Malia. It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about trying your best and learning from the experience.” Her words made me feel better. I realized that even though I didn’t win, I had gained something more valuable: the knowledge and love of cooking. 变成……:turn…into…/transform…into… ②拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②安慰的:comforting/reassuring 【点睛】[高分句型1] I started to practice at home, using the basic skills that Mr. Bruin had taught us in class.(运用了现在分词作状语和关系代词that引导的定语从句) [高分句型2] I realized that even though I didn’t win, I had gained something more valuable: the knowledge and love of cooking.(运用了连词that引导的宾语从句和even though引导的让步状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 唐山市2024—2025学年度高三年级第一学期期末考试 英语 本试卷共12页,满分150分。 1. B In 2019, Polly Greenblatt set a professional goal to integrate the design thinking process into classroom curriculums. C To improve their design ability. D. To draw their attention to real life. 6. How did the starfish idea sound to Greenblatt? A. Absurd. B. Creative. C. Practical. D. Costly. 7. What were the students encouraged to do during testing? A. Concentrate. B. Supervise. C. Persevere. D. Compete. C Every July, the western sandpiper migrates from Alaska to as far as Peru. Daniel Karp, a researcher at UC Davis, sees the program as a rare conservation solution. 9 What can be inferred from Karp about the program? A. It is a win-win solution. B. It is a standardized system. C It is profitable in the long run. D As a coach, I generally encourage my MBA students at Stanford to keep a journal. In today’s digital world, having strong information literacy skills is essential for high school students. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
