ⅠAnalysis of Teaching Contents
1. Theme context
This part is to identify the different types of sentences and use them to complete a story.
2. Type of text
This grammar is to review the types of sentences. Since in unit one, students have already reviewed the elements of sentences, the types of sentences will be comparatively obvious to them.
3. Analysis of text
First, students will be given a dialogue and they will be required to discover the rules. And three sentences of different types will be given to them and the definition of each type of the sentences will be asked to fill in. More examples will be given to them and the sentence structures will be requested. Then students will be demanded to read the passage on page 17-18 and underline all the compound and complex sentences. After that, ask students to complete a story based on the following four pictures by using different types of sentences. At last, students are required to write a passage describing his/ her partner’s learner types, using different types of sentences. Four sample writings will be given and students will be asked to analyse these sentence types.
Ⅱ Analysis of Students
Most students of senior one have strong interest in English studying. But when they first get in touch with English grammar, especially the elements of sentence and the types of sentence, they will find these grammars confusing (based on everyday inspection). Some teachers in junior high schools don’t talk about these grammars because they are not tested. They are quite important and difficult on the contrary. So equipping them with these grammars is the first task the English teachers in senior high school are faced.
Ⅲ Teaching Objectives
Based on the new curriculum standard, the teaching objectives are as the followings. 1) Knowledge objective is to understand the different types of sentences after learning the period. 2) Ability objective is to train students’ ability to complete and write short passages using these types of sentences. 3) Emotional objective is to let students know that the elements of sentences (Grammar in Unit one) and the types of sentences (Grammar in Unit two) are quite basic but important grammars in English learning. They should always keep them in mind while trying to use English.
Ⅳ Focal Points
The focal points should be for the students to understand and use different types of sentences.
ⅤDifficult Points
The teaching difficult points are to make sure students would not get confused with all the sentence types and not to be afraid of using compound sentences and complex sentences while speaking and writing.
