The red panda mainly lives in the Eastern Himalayas in places like China Nepal and Bhutan. It belongs to the family Ailuridae (熊猫科). People thought that it was a member of the bear family at first. But researchers finally grouped the red panda into its own independent family according to DNA research results. The research also showed that the red panda is a close relative to the raccoon (浣熊), but it is not closely related to the giant panda, which belongs to the bear family.
Red pandas are in danger of dying out, according to experts in wildlife protection. The number of red pandas around the world has gone down by half in the last twenty years. The biggest challenge for red pandas is that they are losing their homes because humans are cutting down trees for wood and clearing land for farming. Some people even catch red pandas to make clothes like hats with their special fur.
There are some events around the world to protect red pandas, but they still need more help. To protect red pandas better, it’s necessary to draw more public attention to them. International Red Panda Day was set up for this reason. It is on the third Saturday of September every year.
There are many things we can do for red pandas. You can read a book or watch a video about these amazing animals, join an International Red Panda Day activity near you, see red pandas at your local zoo and share articles and pictures about red pandas on social media.

Long time ago, there was a place called Latium in today’s Italy. People lived simple lives as shepherds (牧羊人) and farmers. They founded many cities, including the world-famous Rome. But we don’t know exactly when it happened. The early Romans didn’t record their history in writing. They passed on their culture through a mix of myth and fact. Traditionally, they believed that two twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, built Rome in 753 B.C.
According to the tradition, they were the sons of Rhea Silvia, daughter of Numitor, king of Alba Longa. Alba Longa is one of Latium’s cities. One day, however, the king’s brother, Amulius, stole the throne (王位) from him. The new king saw the twins as a threat and wanted to drown (溺死) them in a river. The river god saved the two boys. Then, a kind wolf took care of them.
When they grew up, the brothers decided to build their own city. They couldn’t agree on a location, however. They argued and it ended with the sad death of Remus at his brother’s hands. Romulus went on to become the first king of Rome.
Today, we have twelve months in one year. The Romans said that the second king, Numa, invented this type of calendar. The “wise” king also did many other things. Over a few hundred years, Rome grew into the powerful Rome Empire. From the twelve-month calendar to language such as Italian and French, old Roman people contributed a lot to the modern world.
28. What does “myth” probably mean in Chinese?
A. 迷信 B. 神话 C. 谣言
29. Who was the grandfather of the twin brothers?

30. What does the writer try to tell us in the last paragraph?

You may need to hit snooze button on an alarm each morning to sleep for a few more minutes. Is it the healthiest thing you can do for your sleep? Probably not. ____31____ However, it could be a sign of a larger problem, like someone is not getting enough sleep.
The fact that you need an alarm tells you that you’re probably not getting the right amount of sleep that your body needs. Sunjay Kansagra, a professor at Duke University, says: “If you feel so sleepy that you need to press snooze, it tells you that you need more sleep.”
____32____ But those extra minutes of sleep may not actually be that helpful. When a person’s alarm clock goes off in the morning, they may be woken up from rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. REM sleep usually happens later on in a person’s sleep. ____33____ As a result, pressing snooze repeatedly may actually make people feel more confused. ____34____ If a person has the extra time to press the snooze button in the morning, Dr. Kansagra said, the healthier option would be to simply get up with one alarm instead of many times. Just set your alarm to the latest possible time you can wake up. Then you can make sure of yourself getting as much sleep as possible. Place your alarm clock further away from your bed so you have to get up to turn it off. ____35____
A. That’s the experts’ suggestion.
B. Hitting snooze isn’t dangerous.
C. Hitting snooze allows the body to get back to sleep.
D. They may feel more tired after they get out of bed.
E. This is when the brain is active and people often dream.

Janet is 71 years old. She usually starts each morning with a walking club. She thinks walking gives her more energy.
Medical experts agree that walking is an easy way to improve physical and mental (精神的) health, strengthen fitness and prevent disease. While it’s not the only sort of exercise people should take, it’s a great first step toward a healthy life.
People don’t need any equipment or a gym membership to walk. Experts suggest that adults should get at least 2.5 hours of physical activity every week. Walking can help meet that goal. This helps lower the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, depression (抑郁的) and many types of cancer.
Walking also improves blood sugar levels. It is good for bone health and can help people lose weight and sleep better. It’s also one kind of light exercise that puts less pressure on joints (关节) as it strengthens the heart and lungs.
Nearly everyone has heard about the 10,000-step walking goal. The average American walks about 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day, and it’s fine to gradually work up to 10,000. Setting a time goal can also be useful. For example, 150 minutes per week can be broken into 30 minutes a day, or 10 minutes three times a day, for five days. When the weather is not good for walking outside, people can walk in shopping malls.
Staying motivated (有动机的) is the key. Walking with friends, including dogs, is one way. Nowadays, walking clubs have been popular across the nation.

Janet is 71 years old She usually starts each morning with a walking club.
