CLICK FOR A FRIEND?
How would you feel if moving to a new town meant losing track of your friends? What if the only way of getting news from faraway friends was writing letters that took ages to be delivered? This was how things worked not very long ago. Thanks to advances in technology, how we make friends and communicate with them has changed significantly①.
Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with② the people that we want to remain friends with. Social media tools let us see what our friends are up to and maintain③ friendships. All you need is a wi-fi connection.
The digital age also enables us to find people who share our interests, such as collecting model cars or playing an unusual instrument④. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect us with others who also enjoy doing them, even if they live on the other side of the world.
But when you “friend” people online, does this mean that they really are your friends?
It depends.
If people always exchange true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful⑤. But we need to keep in mind⑥ that what we see on social media is often not the whole truth about a person.
On social media sites, people tend to post only positive updates⑦that make them appear happy and friendly. But smiling photos can hide real problems. Remember the saying: on the Internet, nobody knows
you’re a dog. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing our information with criminals⑧ .

Be yourself and always follow your heart. Never let anyone change who you are. This is the lesson I have learned from my childhood experience when I figured out I wasn’t invited to a party.
One day when I got off the bus and saw my friends gather under the tree where the six of us all stood every morning before the first bell. The circle seemed tighter as I approached; the small white invitation cards being quickly slipped into back-packs gave it away. I knew well that Bridget’s party was this weekend. Bridget was one of the popular ones and the opposite of me. She had beautiful red hair with fashionable clothes and fine make-up. Being invited to her party meant an honor.
“Hi,” I responded, but that one word already sounded empty with disappointment.
Thankfully, the bell rang and I hurried toward English class. But I couldn’t concentrate. Why hadn’t she invited me? My feet were too big? No. Maybe it’s my hair. Maybe it’s my coat. I tried to think of any interactions I’d had with Bridget recently. A few days earlier, we’d been partners during a sixth-period project. I focused on getting the project done, and she was absorbed in fashion magazines, sometimes saying, “You are so serious. You should smile more. ”
But what does it really matter? Maybe I should smile and hug more but I just can’t get into hugging people unless I know them really well.
Then the day before the party, three girls that had been invited to the party couldn’t go. Then the whispers began, about who might be chosen in their places.
After school, my friend Becky found me in the bus lines. Breathlessly, she said Bridget had told her at lunch maybe she was going to invite me to her party. I didn’t know what she had meant before she ran away.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
At that time, I saw Bridget walking toward the bus lines, then stopping.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Bridget held out an invitation, “Will you come to my party?” she asked with a smile.

原文
依据 But what does it really matter? Maybe I should smile and hug more but I just can’t get into hugging people unless I know them really well.
主题 Be yourself and always follow your heart. Never let anyone change who you are.
At that time, I saw Bridget walking toward the bus lines, then stopping.
Bridget held out an invitation, “Will you come to my party?” she asked with a smile.
段 情节 “我”看到布丽姬特朝公交线路走去,停了下来;
“我”假装没有注意到她,径直朝街上望去;
“我”感到有一只手放在我的胳膊上;
布丽姬特尴尬地迎接我;
“我”不情愿地并且敷衍地回答;
布丽姬特询问并致歉;
“我”再次保持沉默。
第
一
段 动作链 停下→望去→迎接→回答→询问并致歉→沉默
心理
描写 pretend v. 假装
embarrassed adj.
unwillingly adv.
perfunctorily adv.
段 情节 布丽姬特发出邀请;
“我”看了看小信封,很享受这一刻;
“我”的头脑很混乱;
“我”犹豫了一下;
“我”说了“不”。
动作链 发出邀请→看→说
心理描写 relish vt. 享受
jumble vt.
hesitate v.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At that time, I saw Bridget walking toward the bus lines, then stopping. I pretended not to notice her and looked straight towards the street. I felt a hand on my arm. “Hi,” Bridget greeted me with her face a little embarrassed. “Hi,” I just responded unwillingly and perfunctorily. But no more word between us. After a while, Bridget said, “Do you know that I will hold a party this weekend? I’m so sorry that I forgot to invite you at first. ” Silence again.

Bridget held out an invitation, “Will you come to my party?” she asked with a smile. I looked at the small envelope, relishing the moment. But my mind was a jumble. Now she wanted me to come to her party, but I was just filling a space. “Take it,” I thought. “You know you want to go. ” I hesitated. But finally, I said no. Now that she hadn’t invited me initially, it must be because I was not the right that person she really wanted to invite. So there was no need for me to please her. I just wanted to be myself and always follow my heart. I had already found the pleasure of being myself.

Chinese people have their own culture when it comes to giving gifts to friends or relatives(亲戚). It is important to know that giving someone gifts should not be a one-way business. Courtesy requires reciprocity(互惠).
The person who receives the gift should find a chance in the future to return the same favor(好意)by returning a gift of similar value the next time you meet. You can do so simply by either paying a visit with a similar value gift or by inviting the friend out for a meal.
Not every occasion demands something special. So for the case of just a simple gift for a simple time,some fruits such as apples or oranges would be good enough.
