I've lived in scotland for the last ten years, and I want to tell you, it's really an amazing place. Scotland is a place with unique languages, sports and landscapes. The most interesting thing about this place is that there are hundreds of tiny islands off the mainland to explore, but the most popular places to visit are not the hills or islands, they are the beautiful old castles. The Harry potter series was based on scotland city streets and buildings, and if you come to visit, you can see how similar they are to those in the books and movies. I moved here when I was twenty years old and started my own company within the first five years. My company now provides special tours for visitors. Instead of driving visitors around or taking a bus, I get tourists on bicycles to ride through the region. B Some Christmas traditions are pretty standard in mainstream (主流) American culture: put up the tree, string up the lights, visit grandma, and so on. Then there’s the one my Colombian family does every year: the Novena de Aguinaldos. We pray (祈祷) for nine days without a stop, and this Novena counts down the nine days before Christmas. Most Americans have never heard of it, but in Colombia, it’s a big deal. Like all good traditions, especially around the holidays, this tradition is about community and getting together with friends and family. My family immigrated (移民) from Colombia when I was just two months old. Every year, we gather with a group of Colombian friends for as many of the nine nights as we can. There are three parts to the Novena de Aguinaldos. The first is the reading: each kid takes turns to read a book. Next comes the gozos, which means “The Joys”. That’s where the music comes in, and everyone gets an instrument, a maraca, a drum, a tin can — whatever you can use to make a sound. And then, the villancicos — Spanish Christmas carols (颂歌) come. I’ve lived my whole life in the US. There’s not a lot of Colombian culture that we still hang onto. Why do we still carry on with the tradition of celebrating the Novenas, then? When I asked my parents the other day, the answer was that immigrants didn’t belong anywhere — not where you were, nor where you were from. So my parents helped create a space where we did. Even if the Novenas were nothing like what we might have celebrated if we’d stayed in Colombia, the Novenas became the heart of our community. But our Novenas are starting to feel a little more breakable. It’s getting harder and harder for everyone to get together each year. Last year, I was studying abroad in Italy and couldn’t make it to any gathering; my brother went off to college and had exams late into December; my sister just moved to a new city, and my parents have taken up jobs in different countries. 24. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The process of celebrating the Novena. B. The development of a Colombian tradition. C The background of the Colombian family. D. The differences between the Novena and Christmas. 25. Why does the Colombian family celebrate the Novena? A. To remember their dead friends. B. To find a sense of belonging. C. To show their respect for Americans. D. To understand the local culture. 26. What makes celebrating the Novena difficult for the Colombian family? A. Lack of money. B. Their separate busy life. C. American laws. D. Friends’ complaints. 27. What’s the best title for the text? A. Growing Up B. Colorful Culture C. Exploring American Christmas Traditions D. Colombian Family’s Novena in the US C When we, as humans, get slightly injured, we treat our own wounds. Even sometimes we go to see doctors. But in the wild animal kingdom, medical care is much different. For one Sumatran orangutan (猩猩) , a facial wound may be lethal because it could cause infection and pain. However, the large orange primate (灵长目动物) found a way to treat himself using a native-growing plant. Rakus, a Sumatran orangutan, lives in Suaq Balimbing, Indonesia. Sumatran orangutans, with only about 14, 613 surviving, are faced with dying out. Biologists study the great apes in their habitats. When they noticed Rakus’ wound they paid attention to it. But what happened three days later surprised them. Rakus applied a plant called Akar Kuning to his wound, creating a protective layer over the wound. The plant is known for reducing pain and preventing infection, but it is not a food for the local orangutans. Biologists say, “It is possible that Rakus brought this knowledge from his birthplace. Therefore, it is possible that the behavior is shown by more individuals like him outside the Suaq research area.” Luckily for Rakus, his treatment worked and his wound was cured without incident. While other examples of great apes treating wounds have been recorded, the selective treatment of only the wound and the layering of plant material in different consistencies were marvelous According to the biologists, this remarkable observation is the first report of active wound management with a biological active substance in a great ape species and provides new insights into the existence of self-medication in our closest relatives. 28. What does the underlined word “lethal” in Paragraph I probably mean? A. Deadly. B. Avoidable C. Curable D. Obvious. 29. What surprised biologists about Rakus during their research? A. It feeds on Akar Kuning-a local plant. B. Its habitats has been destroyed wholly. C. It can’t deal with its wounds timely. D. It uses a native plant to cure itself. 30. Which is right about the observation on Sumatran orangutans? A. It focuses on animal protection. B. It first brought in biological active materials. C. It makes for knowing well of self-medication in the species. D. It makes a big difference to saving apes in danger. 31. Where is the passage probably taken from? A. A news report B. A science fiction C. A geographic magazine D. A poster about endangered animals D Esperanto (世界语) was created in the late 1800s by Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof, a Polish medical doctor. He alone built the basis for the language and helped introduce it into the world. Though Zamenhof’s profession was a physician, he was no amateur (外行) in languages. Zamenhol said Russian was his mother tongue — the area of Poland he lived in was then part of the Russian Federation — but he generally spoke Polish everyday. Evidence also shows that he learned Yiddish from his mother and that he studied German, English, Spanlsh, Lithuanian, Italian and French. In addition, Zamenhof learned the classical languages Hebrew, Latin and Aramaic in school. Esperanto was not the first constructed language he’d dealt with. First, he learned a bit of Volapuk (沃拉普克语), which was invented in Germany a decade before Esperanto. Having command of so many languages had a great impact on his creation of Esperanto, which was Zamenhof’s 14th language. During his life, Zamenhof became extremely interested in the idea of creating a tolerant world, free from the horrors (恐怖) of war. He dreamed of a day when people could come together. To make this world a reality, he decided the best thing he could do was make an international language. It would not be anyone’s mother tongue, but people can quickly learn it as a second language to make conversation easily with people from anywhere in the world. Why would Zamenhof create Esperanto when English basically already was used as an international language? The problem is that using English gives a huge advantage to people and places that already speak English. Esperanto tries to bypass political and cultural problems by being a neutral (中性的) language. Yet Esperanto is not without flaw. It was strongly influenced by European language, which can put people who speak Asian languages at a distinct disadvantage in learning and speaking Esperanto. Esperanto’s simple rules might make it easier to learn than other languages for an Asian speaker, but it still loses some of its “neutrality”. 32. Which language was Zamenhof’s mother tongue? A. Russian. B. German. C. Spanish. D. Italian. 33. Zamenhof was able to create Esperanto because ________. A. he had mastered Volapuk B. he had been to many countries C. he was an amateur in learning languages D. he was influenced by the 13 languages he had learnt 34. What gave Zamenhof the idea of creating Esperanto? A. His family background. B. His desire for a peaceful world. C. His interest in classical languages. D. His experience as an international student. 35. What does the underlined word “flaw” mean in the last paragraph? A. Significance. B. Difficulty. C. Weakness. D. Contribution. In my writing, I adhere (遵守) to some essential rules: understanding the message I want to convey and to whom I am communicating, and presenting it in a clear and concise (简洁的) manner. We were fixing expensive flooring throughout some of the main living areas of his home, which included installing (安装) some on the first floor and some downstairs in the basement. The owner let us know that he was leaving for work and that a cat was hiding somewhere in the house. He told us not to let it out, because he had lost two cats already. After about an hour, my sister Candice went outside to get more boxes of flooring. When she came back, I opened the door to let her in since she had her hands full. As she walked through the door, out ran the owner's cat that wasn't supposed to be let outside. So we all stopped what we were doing and tried to round up this fast cat. Unfortunately, we couldn't catch up with it. After calling for the missing cat and pacing the long driveway madly for twenty minutes without noticing it, we decided there was nothing more we could do. We went back to work on the floor, hoping the cat would come back finally. We hoped that the owner would never even know it was gone! And, sure enough, after thirty minutes, the cat scratched (抓) at the back door to be let in. We put it in the basement, where it couldn't get away again. Then I heard another scratch at the back door. I looked outside, and it seemed like the exact same cat, which puzzled (使迷惑) me. I was almost certain that cat couldn’t have gotten out again. But, against my better judgment, I figured that maybe someone had accidentally let it out. And since both my husband and sister were now downstairs working on the basement floor, I couldn’t ask them. I decided to let the cat in through the kitchen door, so it could go back downstairs. After about thirty more minutes, I went downstairs to work on the basement floor as my sister and husband came up to work on the first floor. Then, they met the same thing that happened to me! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We managed to separate the three cats. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 江西省九江市永修二中2024-2025学年度上学期12月阶段测试 高一英语试题 时间:120分钟 满分:150分 注意事项: 1. When will the doctor’s office close? What does the speaker’s company give to visitors? A. Bus tours. B. Bicycle tours. C. Self-driving tours. A 19. B 20. W: I’ve lived in Scotland for the last ten years and I want to tell you it’s really an amazing place. Scotland is a place with unique languages, sports, and landscapes. The most interesting thing about this place is that there are hundreds of tiny islands off the mainland to explore. But the most popular places to visit are not the hills or islands — they are the beautiful old castles. The Harry Potter series was based on Scotland’s city streets and buildings, and if you come to visit, you can see how similar they are to those in the books and movies. I moved here when I was 20 years old and started my own company within the first five years. My company now provides special tours for visitors. Instead of driving visitors around or taking a bus, I get tourists on bicycles to ride through the region. 二、阅读理解(每小题2.5 分,满分50分) A Join Our Community Fitness Program! C. The background of the Colombian family. Colombian Family’s Novena in the US 【答案】24. A 25. B 26. B 27. 根据第四段“There are three parts to the Novena de Aguinaldos. The first is the reading: each kid takes turns to read a book. Next comes the gozos, which means “The Joys”. That’s where the music comes in, and everyone gets an instrument, a maraca, a drum, a tin can—whatever you can use to make a sound. And then, the villancicos——Spanish Christmas carols(颂歌)come.”(九日敬礼有三个部分。 故选A项。 根据第六段“When I asked my parents the other day, the answer was that immigrants didn’t belong anywhere—not where you were, nor where you were from. So my parents helped create a space where we did.”( 前几天我问我的父母,答案是移民不属于任何地方——不属于你在哪里,也不属于你从哪里来。 根据最后一段“It’s getting harder and harder for everyone to get together each year. Last year, I was studying abroad in Italy and couldn’t make it to any gathering; my brother went off to college and had exams late into December; my sister just moved to a new city, and my parents have taken up jobs in different countries.”( 每年大家聚在一起越来越难了。 C When we, as humans, get slightly injured, we treat our own wounds. A poster about endangered animals 【答案】28. A 29. D 30. C 31. 故选A项。 根据文章第二段“But what happened three days later surprised them. Rakus applied a plant called Akar Kuning to his wound, creating a protective layer over the wound. (但三天后发生的事情让他们大吃一惊。Rakus在他的伤口上涂抹了一种名为Akar Kuning的植物,在伤口上形成了一层保护层)”可知,Rakus用一种本地植物来治愈自己,这让生物研究者深感惊讶。故选D项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“According to the biologists, this remarkable observation is the first report of active wound management with a biological active substance in a great ape species and provides new insights into the existence of self-medication in our closest relatives. (根据生物学家的说法,这一引人注目的观察结果是第一份关于在类人猿物种中使用生物活性物质进行主动伤口处理的报告,并为我们近亲是否存在自我治疗提供了新的见解)”可知,关于苏门答腊猩猩的观察,让我们对这个物种的自我治疗有了更好的了解。故选C项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章根据文章第一段“However, the large orange primate (灵长目动物) found a way to treat himself using a native-growing plant. (然而,大型橙色灵长类动物找到了一种用当地生长的植物来治疗自己的方法)”和最后一段“According to the biologists, this remarkable observation is the first report of active wound management with a biological active substance in a great ape species and provides new insights into the existence of self-medication in our closest relatives. (根据生物学家的说法,这一引人注目的观察结果是第一份关于在类人猿物种中使用生物活性物质进行主动伤口处理的报告,并为我们近亲是否存在自我治疗提供了新的见解)”可知,文章主要讲述苏门答腊猩猩可以用一种本土的植物来疗伤。再结合选项,推知文章可能摘自新闻报道。故选A项。 D Esperanto (世界语) was created in the late 1800s by Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof, a Polish medical doctor. A 33. D 34. B 35. 根据第二段“Zamenhol said Russian was his mother tongue — the area of Poland he lived in was then part of the Russian Federation — but he generally spoke Polish everyday.(Zamenhof说,俄语是他的母语——他居住的波兰地区当时是俄罗斯联邦的一部分——但他基本上每天都说波兰语)”可知,Zamenhof的母语是俄语。故选A。 根据第二段“Having command of so many languages had a great impact on his creation of Esperanto, which was Zamenhof’s 14th language.(掌握如此多的语言对他创作世界语有很大的影响,世界语是Zamenhof的第14种语言)”可知,Zamenhof能够创造世界语是因为他受到他学过的13种语言的影响。 根据第三段“During his life, Zamenhof became extremely interested in the idea of creating a tolerant world, free from the horrors (恐怖) of war. (在他的一生中,Zamenhof对创造一个没有战争恐怖的宽容世界的想法产生了极大的兴趣)”可知,对世界和平的渴望让Zamenhof产生了创造世界语的想法。故选B。 【35题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“It was strongly influenced by European language, which can put people who speak Asian languages at a distinct disadvantage in learning and speaking Esperanto.” In my writing, I adhere (遵守) to some essential rules: understanding the message I want to convey and to whom I am communicating, and presenting it in a clear and concise (简洁的) manner. When my target audience is my professors, or when my writing is expected to be read by my students, I adopt a different style. ____36____ A clear message is necessary to avoid boring readers or losing your audience. ____37____ It matters in all forms of communication. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Then, they met the same thing that happened to me! A cat came scratching at the door again, looking the same as the one we had caught and put downstairs before. Like me, they thought it was the same cat and figured it had gotten out again. So, they decided to put it back downstairs. After a while, we heard a big noise in the basement. They rushed downstairs and we went to check what had happened. To our surprise, we saw a huge mess and three black-and-white cats fighting with each other. We managed to separate the three cats. Peace returned to the basement. But before we could sort that out, the owner arrived. We told him what had happened while he was away and that he now had three cats instead of one. We were waiting for his complaint. However, he was very happy, saying, “Thank you. You helped me find the other two cats that I had lost.” We looked at each other, laughing. The owner paid us more in the end, not only for our installation work, but also for finding the cats. 词汇激活 行为类 ①急忙:rush/hurry ②告诉:tell/inform ③认为:think/consider 情绪类 ①高兴:happy/pleased ②惊讶:surprise/astonishment 【点睛】[高分句型1] But before we could sort that out, the owner arrived.
