Mr. and Mrs. Lin saved them B. they were members of a special team C. they had a difficult but interesting journey D. they got out safely early the next morning C Many people take running as a way to keep fit. They like to run in hot weather and enjoy the feeling of being wet through with sweat ( 汗 ) while running. Cold weather during winter months, with low temperatures and freezing cold winds, may keep many people from running in the open air. However, a new study shows that the drop in temperature is a good reason to run. In fact, running in cold weather helps improve one’s performance. Many runners might find it easier to run in winter than in hot weather. The body needs less water on a cold day than in warm weather. In addition, lower temperatures reduce stress on the body. When you run in cold weather, your heart rate is lower. John Brewer is a professor of applied sports science at St. Mary’s University in London. For this study, he and other researchers put a group of people into a room where summer and winter weather conditions are recreated. The test subjects were asked to run 10,000 meters under both conditions and their biological measurements were recorded and studied. From the study, every movement runners make produces heat. The heat can be really damaging unless the body can lose it. One way in which people lose heat is by sweating. The body loses heat through sweat. The body also loses it by transporting the blood to the surface of the skin and it puts more stress on the heart, especially in hot conditions because it’s much harder to lose heat when the outside environment is warm. As the result shows, running in hot temperatures results in 6 percent higher heart rates. When running in cold conditions, the body does not have to work hard to move blood to the skin surface. Therefore, it requires less energy. The most important thing for people who run in cold conditions is to wear the right clothing. Keep as dry as possible when exercising in low temperatures. Wear warm and light clothing to keep sweat away from your skin. So don’t let winter weather keep you indoors. Simply get ready for the low temperatures and start running. 27. Why did John Brewer make a group of people run in a room? A. Because the weather conditions could be recreated for four seasons. B. Because the researchers could teach the people there to study science. C. Because the professor could study science with the group of people. D. Because the test subjects’ biological measurements could be recorded. 28. What can we learn from the passage? A. Running in cold weather doesn’t need a lot of energy. B. Running in cold weather needs heavy clothing to keep warm. C. Running in hot weather causes hearts beat slower than in cold. D. Running in hot weather produces more heat than other movements. 29. What is the main purpose in writing this passage? A. To study why the drop in temperature is good to run. B. To compare benefits of running in winter and summer. C. To encourage people to keep running outdoors in winter. D. To show us how to keep healthy while running in winter. D There are several kinds of distances people keep. Dr. Hall names them intimate, personal, social, and public. Intimate distance is being very close to another, as in a family. Personal distance might be the kind people put between themselves at a party. Social distance is more businesslike and formal. Public distance is used by actors, politicians, and leaders before a large group. Scientists are trying to find out how people use these different distances. They want to discover why, when, and where people allow closeness or use space to protect themselves from others. Since proxemics (距离效应学) is a new science, there aren’t many conclusions about the meaning of space separating people. But you can make some general observations (观察) on your own. Take notes about how you use space in different situations. What message do you get from other people as they move close to you or away from you? Does distance give you a feeling that you are being ignored (忽视)? When do you feel crowded? Standing in a line at a shop counter, you can learn about space. People keep just enough distance between each other so that they don’t invade (侵犯) each other’s area. If you move into another person’s area, you would soon know it. That person would become nervous or turn around to show you the angry expression on his or her face. Or that person might simply tell you, “Please step back. I’m too crowded.” School is a good place to study how space is used and how people mark their own area. At school you probably have a desk or part of a table to call your own. How do you feel when you find someone sitting at your desk or covering your table with papers and books? Maybe you want to protect your area. You might tell the other person that it belongs to you. Then you might move his or her things aside. You might even ask that person to leave your area. Whether people are close together or far from each other, space can tell you indeed. The most important thing in space dialogue is whether people respect one another’s areas. Invading other people’s space might mean trouble. 30. From the passage we can learn that ________ A. close distance can make you feel comfortable B. personal distance is between family members C. close or not, there is distance between people D. one must keep enough distance from others 31. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. You must protect your area from others’ invading it. B. Distance can tell the relationship between people. C. Scientists are studying why there are kinds of distances. D. Space among people is something important for us. 32. What does the sentence “Please step back. I’m too crowded” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. You’re standing too close to me. B. Go away or I am leaving. C. Come and see I am here. D. You take all my area as yours. 33. What’s the best title of the passage? A. How interesting distance is B. Space does speak indeed C. Distance can be everywhere D. One should own his space 第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 共20分) 四、阅读表达(每小题2分,共10分) Have you ever seen a koala somewhere? Koalas, which are often called koala “bears”, are tree-climbing animals and are seen as national symbols of Australia. However, recently the Australian government has announced (宣布) that koalas are endangered animals across much of the country. As a matter of fact, the country lost 30% of its koala population between 2018 and 2021, especially in New South Wales, according to a report from the Australian Koala Foundation. If nothing was done, New South Wales’ koalas would die out by 2050, research in June 2020 said. “This must be a wake-up call to Australia and the government to move much faster to protect the cute animals,” Josey Sharrad, a manager with the International Fund for Animal Welfare, said seriously. Koalas are dying out all over the country because of the climate change and the fast development of cities. People have seen some places that look like the moon — with dead and dying trees everywhere. After WWF-Australia and the International Fund for Animal Welfare called on the government to announce koalas as endangered in April, the government promised they would get more public support and protect koalas’ home — they live in the forests and woodlands. The Australian government is now doing its best to collect money to protect koalas. On the one hand, it has spent $13 million in helping improve their living places. On the other hand, the government plans to spend another $36 million doing better health research and medical support to further help koala programs over the next four years. “We should never have allowed things to get to the point where we are at risk of losing a national symbol,” Environment Minister Susan Ley said. 34. Some cried and some lost hope. At that moment, Mr. Lin decided to take the lead(带头). He called for every one’s attention and said, “The roads are too dangerous. We can’t go down the mountain until tomorrow. We must stay here tonight.” Then Mr. Lin and a few young men went back to the ruins(废墟) to look for food and blankets(毛毯). They found some, but not enough for everyone. The young people gave theirs to the older ones. After that, Mr. Lin divided(分开) the people into five groups. Each group had a leader. He also collected all the mobile phones and made sure each group had one. They used them as flash lights. Every 30 minutes, the group leaders flashed their mobile phones, and the light in the dark rainy night made everyone feel safe. Early the next morning, the groups started to go down the mountain. It was a difficult journey, but the group members(成员) encouraged and supported(支持) each other. After twelve hours’ walking, they finally got out safely. By then, it was 30 hours after the earthquake. Everyone was tired but they felt lucky because they were part(部分) of a special team. This special team gave them hope for life. 24. 【答案】27. D 28. A 29. C 【解析】 【导语】本文通过John Brewer的研究,介绍了冬季户外跑步的益处,鼓励人们在冬天多做户外活动。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据“The test subjects were asked to run 10,000 meters under both conditions and their biological measurements were recorded and studied.”可知,John Brewer让一群人在房间里跑步,这样记录他们的生物测量数据就容易多了。故选D。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据“The body needs less water on a cold day than in warm weather. In addition, lower temperatures reduce stress on the body. When you run in cold weather, your heart rate is lower.” 根据“So don’t let winter weather keep you indoors. Simply get ready for the low temperatures and start running.”可知,作者鼓励人们在冬天做户外运动,故选C。 D There are several kinds of distances people keep. One should own his space 【答案】30. C 31. B 32. A 33. 34. The weather in Beijing in January is a bit cold and snowy, so you can make a snowman outside. You’d better bring your jacket down. There are many interesting things to do in Beijing during the Spring Festival. For example, visiting temple fairs and fireworks displays can be nice. Meanwhile, I advise you to visit the Summer Palace, the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven. The Great Wall is one of the wonders of the world and it is an amazing place to visit. The summer Palace and The Temple of Heaven are beautiful, too. There are royal buildings, fantastic artwork, and scenic views for people to enjoy.   Before you come to Beijing, you should know that Beijing is a very crowded and big city.
