When the rich man came back, he couldn't find his food and his wine. He became very angry. He woke the servant up. But the servant told his story very well. He said a cat had eaten up everything. 解析:
文章开篇提到“Long ago, the sky fell apart and the earth was in chaos. There were huge holes in the sky, and disasters like floods and fires were everywhere. People were suffering terribly.”,清晰地描述了很久以前天空破裂、有大洞,到处都是洪水、火灾等灾难,人们遭受苦难的情况,所以选择B选项。A选项“The earth was filled with beautiful scenery and people lived happily.”(地球上到处是美丽的景色,人们生活得很幸福)与原文描述不符;C选项“There was a big celebration among the gods and goddesses.”(众神之间有一场盛大的庆祝活动)文中未提及;D选项“People built many tall buildings and developed advanced technology.”(人们建造了很多高楼大厦并发展了先进的技术)不符合故事中所讲的远古时期的情况,故排除这三个选项。
40. 答案:B
解析:
文中提到“It was an extremely difficult task as these special stones were very rare.”,表明找到五色石很困难是因为这些特殊的石头非常稀少,所以选择B选项。A选项“Because she didn't know where to look for them.”(因为她不知道去哪里找它们)不是文中所讲的困难原因;C选项“Because she didn't have enough time.”(因为她没有足够的时间)文中未体现这一原因;D选项“Because other gods and goddesses didn't want her to find them.”(因为其他的神和女神不想让她找到它们)也不符合原文描述,故排除这三个选项。

文中提到“After a long and arduous journey, she finally found all the five-colored stones. Then, she used her magic to melt the stones and use the liquid to patch up the holes in the sky.”,明确说明了女娲找到石头后,用魔法将石头熔化,并用熔液修补天空中的洞,所以选择B选项。A选项“She threw them away because they were not useful.”(她把它们扔掉了,因为它们没用)不符合原文情节;C选项“She gave them to other gods and goddesses as gifts.”(她把它们作为礼物送给了其他的神和女神)文中没有这样的描述;D选项“She hid them in a secret place.”(她把它们藏在一个秘密的地方)也不符合女娲对石头的处理方式,故排除这三个选项。
42. 答案:B
解析:
文中提到“Next, she killed a giant turtle and used its legs to prop up the sky so that it wouldn't fall again.”,清楚地表明女娲杀死了一只巨龟,用它的腿撑起天空,以防天空再次坠落,所以选择B选项。A选项“She asked other gods and goddesses to hold the sky up together.”(她让其他的神和女神一起撑起天空)不符合原文所讲的做法;C选项“She built a big wall around the earth to support the sky.”(她在地球周围建了一堵大墙来支撑天空)文中没有这样的描述;D选项“She used a magic spell to make the sky stay in place forever.”(她用一个魔法咒语让天空永远固定在原位)也不是文中提到的防止天空再次坠落的办法,故排除这三个选项。
C
There were two mice. They were called Bill and Paul. They were good friends. One mouse lived in the country; the other mouse lived in the city. On a sunny day they met in the street.
Paul: Hi, Bill! Have a look at my house in the country. I'm sure you can enjoy yourself.
Bill: I'd love to. But I hear that the food is not delicious, and your house is not good. Is it so?
Paul: No, that's not true. Go and see!
Then Bill went to the countryside with Paul.
Bill: Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made of stone. You would have better food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the city.
Paul: Thanks! Maybe you're right. I'll visit your house one day.
Several days later Paul went to Bill's house in the city. The house is big and beautiful. They were sitting in the sitting room, having a big dinner comfortably. Suddenly, there was a great noise.
Bill: Run! Run! The cat is coming!
Paul: Oh, no! It's terrible! Both the house and the food are nice, but I do not like living in the city. I enjoy living in my hole in the field, for it is nicer to be poor but happy than to be rich but afraid.
43. Where does Bill live?
A. In the hole.
B. In the country.
C. In the city.
D. In the field.
44. What did Paul think of living in the city at last?
A. He liked living in the city.
B. He didn't like living in the city.
C. He thought it was nicer to be rich.
D. He thought it was better to live in a stone house.
45. What's the main idea of the story?
A. The city mouse and the country mouse.
B. Two good friends, Bill and Paul.
C. How to live in the country.
D. How to live in the city.
43. 答案:C
解析:
文中多处细节表明Bill住在城市,比如“Paul:...You must come and see me at my house in the city. Bill: Thanks! Maybe you're right. I'll visit your house one day.”以及“Several days later Paul went to Bill's house in the city.”,这些语句都清晰地指出了Bill居住在城市里,所以选择C选项。A选项“In the hole.”是Paul在乡村居住的地方特征;B选项“In the country.”是Paul居住的区域;D选项“In the field.”同样是描述乡村的环境,不符合Bill居住地点的情况,故排除这三个选项。
44. 答案:B
解析:
故事结尾处Paul说“Both the house and the food are nice, but I do not like living in the city. I enjoy living in my hole in the field, for it is nicer to be poor but happy than to be rich but afraid.”,明确表达了他虽然认可城市里房子和食物不错,但并不喜欢住在城市,所以选择B选项。A选项“He liked living in the city.”与原文中Paul的最终想法相悖;C选项“He thought it was nicer to be rich.”不符合他所强调的更看重快乐而非富有的观点;D选项“He thought it was better to live in a stone house.”也不是他对城市生活最终的看法,故排除这三个选项。
45. 答案:A
B选项“Two good friends, Bill and Paul.”只是故事涉及的人物主体,没有体现故事核心要传达的内容;C选项“How to live in the country.”并非故事着重讲述的方面;D选项“How to live in the city.”同样不是故事主要想表达的意思,故排除这三个选项。
D
Once upon a time, there was a young man named Hou Yi. He was an excellent archer and very brave. At that time, there were ten suns in the sky. They shone too brightly and brought extreme heat to the earth. Rivers dried up, crops withered, and people were dying of thirst and hunger.
Hou Yi decided to take action. He took his bow and arrows and climbed to the top of a high mountain. With great skill and determination, he shot down nine of the suns, one after another. The earth was immediately cooled down, and people cheered.
However, Hou Yi's heroic deeds angered the gods. They punished him by making his wife, Chang'e, drink a potion that would send her to the moon. Hou Yi was heartbroken. He looked up at the moon every night, missing his wife terribly.
To remember Hou Yi and Chang'e, people started the tradition of celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. On this day, families get together, eat mooncakes, and look at the moon, hoping for good fortune and family reunification.
46. Why did Hou Yi shoot down the suns?
A. Because he wanted to show off his archery skills.
B. Because the suns were too beautiful.
C. Because the suns brought disasters to the earth.
D. Because the gods asked him to do so.
47. How many suns did Hou Yi shoot down?
A. Five. B. Six. C. Nine. D. Ten.
48. What happened to Hou Yi's wife?
A. She died.
B. She was sent to the moon.
C. She left Hou Yi.
D. She became a goddess.
49. Why do people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival?
A. To celebrate the harvest.
B. To worship the gods.
C. To remember Hou Yi and Chang'e.
D. To have a family reunion.
46. 答案:C
解析:
文中提到“At that time, there were ten suns in the sky. They shone too brightly and brought extreme heat to the earth. Rivers dried up, crops withered, and people were dying of thirst and hunger.”说明当时天空中十个太阳给地球带来了诸多灾难,所以后羿才决定采取行动射下太阳,选择C选项。A选项“Because he wanted to show off his archery skills.”(因为他想炫耀他的射箭技能)文中未体现这一原因;B选项“Because the suns were too beautiful.”(因为太阳太漂亮了)不符合原文描述;D选项“Because the gods asked him to do so.”(因为众神要求他这么做)也不是后羿射日的原因,故排除这三个选项。
47. 答案:C
解析:
文中明确表述“He shot down nine of the suns, one after another.”,即后羿接连射下了九个太阳,所以选择C选项。A选项“Five.”、B选项“Six.”、D选项“Ten.”都不符合原文中后羿射下太阳数量的描述,故排除这三个选项。
48. 答案:B
解析:
文中提到“They punished him by making his wife, Chang'e, drink a potion that would send her to the moon.”,表明后羿的妻子嫦娥被惩罚喝下一种药水后被送到了月亮上,所以选择B选项。A选项“She died.”(她死了)不符合原文情节;C选项“She left Hou Yi.”(她离开了后羿)不是原文所讲的情况;D选项“She became a goddess.”(她变成了女神)文中也未提及,故排除这三个选项。
49. 答案:C
解析:
文中提到“To remember Hou Yi and Chang'e, people started the tradition of celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.”,很清楚地说明人们庆祝中秋节是为了纪念后羿和嫦娥,所以选择C选项。
E
Once upon a time, there were five children who moved to the countryside with their mother. One day, while they were playing in a gravel pit(采石场), they met a magical creature called the Psammead. The Psammead was a sand - fairy(沙精). It had the power to give one wish per day. But every wish could only last until sunset.
The children were excited and started making wishes. First, they wished for money. Surprisingly, a whole pit filled with gold coins appeared in front of them. They tried to buy things with the gold coins, but were caught as thieves by the police.
The kids made more wishes—to become beautiful, to fly with wings, and to turn stronger. Each wish had its own surprises at first, but it brought problems in the end. They learned that wishes don't always give them what they truly want.
The next day, the children received a letter saying their mother was coming back home. They wanted to wish for something special for her. Just then, they heard that someone stole Lady Chittenden's jewels. One of the children wished their mother could have jewels. When their mother returned, she found the jewels and thought Martha's boyfriend was the thief. The children tried to convince(说服) their mother about the Psammead, but she didn't believe them. So they had to find the Psammead again and asked for one last wish to solve the problem. In return, they promised never to speak of the Psammead again and said goodbye. When they got back home, everything was resolved, and Lady Chittenden's missing jewels were found. Now, the children wonder if they will ever meet the Psammead again.
50. What could the Psammead do?
A. It could make the children fly.
B. It could give the children one wish per day.
C. It could change into different animals.
D. It could help the children find their mother.
51. Why did the children want to find the Psammead again?
A. Because they wanted more wishes.
B. Because they wanted to say thank you.
C. Because they wanted to solve the problem.
D. Because they wanted to make their mother believe them.
52. What can we learn from the story?
A. Wishes can always bring good things.
B. We should be careful when making wishes.
C. It's easy to solve problems with magic.
D. We should believe in magic.
50. 答案:B
解析:
文中明确提到“The Psammead was a sand - fairy(沙精). It had the power to give one wish per day.”,说明沙精每天可以实现孩子们一个愿望,所以选择B选项。A选项“It could make the children fly.”(它能让孩子们飞)只是孩子们许下的其中一个愿望实现后的效果,不是它本身的能力;C选项“It could change into different animals.”(它能变成不同的动物)文中未提及它有此能力;D选项“It could help the children find their mother.”(它能帮助孩子们找到他们的母亲)也不是对它能力的描述,故排除这三个选项。
51. 答案:C
解析:
文中提到“The children tried to convince(说服) their mother about the Psammead, but she didn't believe them. So they had to find the Psammead again and asked for one last wish to solve the problem.”,表明孩子们再次找沙精是为了解决母亲误会玛莎男友是小偷这个问题,所以选择C选项。A选项“Because they wanted more wishes.”(因为他们想要更多愿望)不符合再次寻找它的主要原因;B选项“Because they wanted to say thank you.”(因为他们想要说谢谢)文中未体现这一原因;D选项“Because they wanted to make their mother believe them.”(因为他们想让母亲相信他们)不是直接的原因,他们是想通过实现愿望来解决问题,从而让母亲不再误会,故排除这三个选项。
A选项“Wishes can always bring good things.”(愿望总能带来好的事物)与文中孩子们许愿后出现诸多问题的情节不符;C选项“It's easy to solve problems with magic.”(用魔法解决问题很容易)文中体现出用魔法许愿解决问题反而引发了新的麻烦,并非容易;D选项“We should believe in magic.”(我们应该相信魔法)不是故事主要想传达给我们的道理,故排除这三个选项。

参考范文
Among numerous Chinese mythology stories, “Yu Gong Moves a Mountain” really impressed me. The main characters are Yu Gong and his family.
Once upon a time, Yu Gong's family lived in a village blocked by two huge mountains. It took them a long time to travel around the mountains to get to other places. Yu Gong thought it was a great inconvenience and decided to move the mountains. Although his neighbors laughed at him, thinking it was impossible, Yu Gong was not discouraged. He said that his sons would have sons, and generation after generation, they would surely move the mountains away. So, they started digging day after day. Finally, their perseverance touched the gods, and the gods helped them move the mountains.
I like this story because it shows the power of determination. Yu Gong didn't give up in the face of difficulties and big challenges. His spirit encouraged me a lot.
From this story, I learned that as long as we have firm beliefs and are willing to work hard, we can overcome any difficulties. No matter how tough the situation is, we should never lose hope and keep moving forward. Just like Yu Gong, we can achieve our goals if we persevere.
In short, this Chinese mythology story has been deeply engraved in my mind and will always inspire me when I encounter difficulties in life.
