The father asked his son, “What is that?”
The son replied, “That is a crow.”
After a few minutes, the father asked his son for the second time, “What is this?”
The son said, “Father, I told you just now. It’s a crow.”
After a little while, the father asked his son the same question for the third time, “What is this?”
This time, the son said to his father in a low and cold tone, “It’s a crow, a crow.”
After a moment, the father yet again asked his son for the fourth time, “What is this?”
This time his son shouted at his father, “Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again? I have told you already, ‘IT IS A CROW’. Are you not able to understand this?”
A minute later the father went to his room and came back with a diary, which he had kept since his son was born. On opening a page, he asked his son to read that page.
Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa when a crow suddenly landed on the window edge. My son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied him 23 times that it was a crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question. I didn’t at all feel angry, but instead felt affection for my son.
If your parents reach old age, do not look at them as a burden, but speak to them gently, and be kind to them. From today say this aloud, “I want to see my parents happy forever. In 1937, my father, who was almost 20 years old, started a long journey. He traveled a thousand miles across China with his university, Zhejiang University, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (抗日战争). The Chinese government wanted to keep the university students safe because they were important for the country’s future. As the university planned for the journey, the Head Librarian of Zhejiang Library, asked the university to take a collection of books with them.
The books were called “Siku Quanshu”. Created in the 18th century, this was a huge encyclopedia (百科全书) with 2.3 million pages and about 997 million words. It was so important that plans were made to protect it at any cost, even though it added another 230 boxes to the students’ cargo.
The journey was not easy. Students and teachers were facing the dangers from air attacks. They were always tired and hungry. They had to sleep on the ground in old temples but they continued their classes whenever they could. To protect the books, they tried to move by boat or truck whenever possible; at other times, they would put the boxes into carts (手推车). Sometimes the students had to carry some of the books in their backpacks. One scary moment was when a box of the Siku Quanshu books fell into a river. They quickly saved the books and dried them in a local temple.
After 1,400 miles and 28 months on the road, the university group finally reached a small town called Zunyi in Guizhou province. They stayed there in simple classrooms and dorms, until the war moved deeper into China. To further protect the Siku Quanshu, the books were hidden in a nearby cave, guarded by university staff. The books made it through the war in surprisingly good condition and were sent back to Zhejiang Library.
This amazing story shows how a group of young students and their teachers did everything they could to protect their culture’s treasures. They faced many dangers and hardships, but they never gave up. They worked together to keep their knowledge safe.

According to a latest report, a few schools in China are using a kind of very special uniform. It is used to watch their students’ 44 (day) life and stop them from playing truant (旷课).
Such uniforms have tracking chips (追踪芯片) in them to record the time a student enters the school and a short video 45 parents can see through a mobile app.
Once a student doesn’t have classes without 46 (ask) for leave, an alarm will be caused to tell both teachers and parents. And a voice alarm will go off as long as a student leaves school without being allowed. A GPS system also follows a 47 (student) movements once he has left the school.
Eleven schools in Guizhou 48 (use) the uniforms which are developed by Guizhou Guanyu Technology over the years. The project manager said that fewer and fewer students had been absent since the uniforms were used in some schools.
49 , many people are against such uniforms on social media. “Whoever is watched 24 hours a day will feel uncomfortable.” One Weibo user said. “Don’t children have human rights and privacy?” added 50 (other) user.
Although teachers were able to track students at all times, a headmaster in Guizhou 51 (suggest) that teachers should not make use of this technology often.
“We can have a 52 (choose) to check the position of students after school, and when the students are missing and playing truant, the uniforms help to find out where they are, but we should use it 53 (wise).” the headmaster said.
44.daily 45.which/that 46.asking 47.student’s 48.have used 49.However 50.another 51.suggested 52.choice 53.wisely
根据“It is used to watch their students’...life”可知,life前面应该用形容词修饰名词,表示daily“日常的”生活。故填daily。
根据“a short video...parents can see through a mobile app.” 故填which/that。
根据“Once a student doesn’t have classes without...”
根据“A GPS system also follows...”
根据“Eleven schools in Guizhou...the uniforms”及“over the years”可知,空缺处是谓语动词,主语是Eleven schools复数且时态为现在完成时,结构为have done。故填have used。
根据上文及“...many people are against such uniforms on social media.” 故填However。
故填another。
根据上文“Although teachers were able to track students at all times,...”
根据“have a...”
根据“but we should use it...”
Erica dreamed many times about going fishing. But her father wouldn’t agree. “It’s much too dangerous for you,” he’d say. Erica tried to change her father’s mind. But her father only said, “I don’t want you to be unhappy. I’m just worried about you.”
Erica couldn’t understand why her father wouldn’t let her go fishing. She could swim very well—much better than some of her friends.
“You said I should always try new things,” Erica said to her father. “You said that that’s the only way people grow inside.”
Erica’s father said, “But sometimes a new thing can be dangerous and”.
“Is going on boats dangerous?” asked Erica. “Then why do you do it? Benny Nathan is younger than I am. But he goes fishing all the time.”
Erica’s father said, “But you’re not as strong as Benny.”
Erica knew her legs weren’t very strong. But her arms were. She had to show her father that she was strong.
That Saturday when Benny came over, Erica asked him to race her in the swimming pool. Her father came along to watch.
“This is a special race,” Erica said. “You can only use your arms, not your legs.”
Benny started off quickly, but soon his arms became tired. Erica began to pull ahead. She got to the end of the pool first.
After the race was over, Erica’s father said, “I was wrong. You can take care of yourself—on a boat, or other places.”
Two days later, she was on a boat heading out to the deep sea. Her father was sleeping next to her on a chair.
54.What was Erica’s dream?
55.Why did Erica’s father say no to her dream?
56.If you were Erica, would you stick to your dream even though your dad said no? Why?
54.Her dream was to go fishing. 55.Because her father thought it was dangerous to go fishing and Erica was not strong enough. 56.Yes. Because Realizing my dream is very important and I don’t want to give up easily. I will work hard and prove myself to my dad./No. Because I should follow what my dad says and protect myself from dangerous places.
54.根据“Erica dreamed many times about going fishing.” Her dream was to go fishing.
55.根据“It’s much too dangerous for you”及“But you’re not as strong as Benny.” Because her father thought it was dangerous to go fishing and Erica was not strong enough.
Yes. Because Realizing my dream is very important and I don’t want to give up easily. I will work hard and prove myself to my dad./No. Because I should follow what my dad says and protect myself from dangerous places.

In 1937, my father, who was almost 20 years old, started a long journey. He traveled a thousand miles across China with his university, Zhejiang University, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression The Chinese government wanted to keep the university students safe because they were important for the country’s future.
18.What does the underlined word “cargo” in Parapraph 2 probably mean?

The children ran deeper into the tunnel. Before long, they found a boy. He was lying on the ground.
“What happened?” Roberta asked him.
“I’m Jim. I was walking through the tunnel when I fell over. I think I’ve broken my leg.” “The 11:15 train is coming soon,” Peter said. “We must get you out of here.”
“I’ve been here for two hours,” the boy said. “I was on my way to the station to catch the train. It’s quicker through the tunnel than along the road.”
“It’s also more dangerous,” Roberta said.
Peter said. “We’ve got to get you out.” Then Peter and Phyllis helped Jim up. It was a difficult journey, but the children got there before the 11:15 train did. Finally, a signalman helped them and took Jim to Peter’s home.
