My home town and my country
To summarise and consolidate the use of comparative adjectives(-er)
To compare two places in your home town
Look at the following sentences. And pay attention to the words in red.
It’s getting bigger and busier.
Its streets are much wider and cleaner too.
3. It’s a newer city than Hong Kong.
4. It’s taller than many other buildings in Shenzhen.
5. Some day it will become as busy as Hong Kong.
6. That’s larger than the population of many other cities in China.
7. Shenzhen is larger in population than Beijing.
比较级用于比较两个主体。组成句子的方式是将形容词或副词变成比较级的形式,之后要用than引出比较的对象。
比较级
形容词比较级的构成—规则变化:
单音节和部分双音节词 一般在词尾加-er
tall→taller
long→longer
以不发音字母e结尾的词,在词尾加-r fine→finer
late→later
重读闭音节词且词尾只有一个辅音字母,双写辅音字母再加-er big→bigger
thin→thinner
以“辅音字母+y”结尾的双音节词,先把“y”改为“i”再加-er easy→easier
friendly→friendlier
比较级的句子结构:
原来的句子结构不变,只是将形容词变成比较级的形式,然后在后面用than引出所比较的对象。例如:
1. Shanghai is busy.
Shanghai is busier than Hangzhou.
2. Shanghai is an old city.
Shanghai is an older city than Shenzhen.
比较级常用句型:
1. A+be+形容词比较级+than +B A比B更……
e.g. This tree is taller than that one.
The climate in Beijing is hotter than that of Kunming.
2. 表示两者之间的选择, 可使用 Which is + 比较级, …or…?
e.g. Which is longer, the Yangtze River or the Yellow River?
3. ……比较级+and+比较级…… 越来越……
e.g. The weather is getting warmer and warmer in spring.
4. as+形容词原形+as… 和……一样……
e.g. Tom is as tall as Mike.
I was as happy as John yesterday.
否定形式:not as…as…或 not so… as… 和…… 不一样、不及/不如……
e.g. Tom is not as tall as Mike.
Tom is not so tall as Mike.
This book isn’t as interesting as that one.
注意:
修饰比较级的副词要用much, a lot, a little, a bit, far, even, still等。very不能和比较级连用。
e.g. It was cold yesterday, but it’s even colder today.
He is getting much fatter these days.
用所给词的适当形式填空。

1. 形容词的比较级的规则变化:
