第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (满分15分)
66.Dear John,
I’m sorry to hear that you are upset with the negative feedback on homework from your teachers, so I’m writing to offer you some advice.
As students, it is extremely natural for us to receive such comment. Don’t feel hurt and discouraged! Now I give you some practical suggestions to change the situation. For one thing , you should learn to accept any type of assessment, understanding the teacher’s intention. You know, it isn’t personal. For another, it is advisable to figure out where your problems lie. If necessary, you’d better communicate with your teacher face to face.
I hope these can be of help to you!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
67.范文
But he just listened while I continued talking. “I was wrong. I hate myself for what I did”, I told him, with my head down. I didn’t know what to do to make things right. I had been afraid that Mrs. Ferguson would stay mad at me. Finally my grandpa said, “What would you do if you were her?”After a while, I replied, “One solution is to tell her that I am sorry and offer to fix her window.”
Hearing the decision, grandpa smiled. “Doing what is right is not always easy,” he said, handing me the phone, “I am proud of you.” He did not make me do it. It was always my choice. As it turned out, Mrs. Ferguson was very kind and we even became really close friends. “Admitting what you are not proud of is the hardest thing,” said Grandpa. “Choosing to be honest makes others trust and respect you.”

June is around the corner, meaning summer is almost here! we’ve asked our book critics for some advice: What upcoming fiction and nonfiction are they most looking forward to reading? Here’s a look:
Daughter of the Merciful Deep by Leslye Penelope
I was hooked when I first saw the gorgeous cover for Daughter of the Merciful Deep by Leslye Penelope. But the novel’s premise put it at the top of my summer reading list. Penelope is known for unforgettable characters, world—building, beautiful writing and robust Storytelling. Her latest work, inspired by actual events —the drowned Black towns of the American South —promises a magical, mythical and powerful tale of a young woman’s quest to save her town. A historical fantasy must—read. (July 4)—Denny Bryce
The Lucky Ones by Zara Chowdhary
In 2002, two train carriages were set on fire in Gujarat, India. Within three weeks, more than 2, 000 Muslims were murdered in response by Hindu mobs. By the end of the year, more than 50, 000 Muslims became refugees in their own country. The Lucky Ones is a unique biography in English of this largest—ever massacre in independent India. It is also about a communal crisis bringing a fractured family together. A must—read in our warring world today. (July 16)—Jenny Bhatt
Liars by Sarah Manguso
I have long been a fan of Sarah Manguso’s crystalline prose, from her fragmented illness biography The Two Kinds of Decay to her tightly constrained 2022 novel Very Cold People. Her second novel, Liars, marries restraint with rage—in it, Manguso traces the full are of a 15-year relationship between Jane, a successful writer, and John, a dilettante artist—cum一 techie, in aphoristic vignettes. The result is a furious, propulsive meditation on wifehood, motherhood and artistic ambition. (July 23)—Kristen Martin
21.What is Penelope famous for?
A.Using beautiful language. B.Focusing on actual events.
C.Telling historical stories. D.Shaping perfect woman images.
22.Which of the following is a biography?
A.Liars. B.The Lucky Ones.
C.Daughter of the Merciful Deep. D.Very Cold People.

C.They are both related to magic and myth. D.Their main characters are artists.

Isaac Asimov was one of the world’s most celebrated science fiction writers, having written or edited more than 500 books over his four-decade career. The 5020 Asimov Asteroid (行星), the magazine Asimov’s Science Fiction and two different Isaac Asimov Awards are all named in his honor.
Asimov was born in January, 1920 in Russia. His family migrated to the United States when he was three years old. His parents owned a small general store and everyone in the family was expected to work in it. He saw science fiction magazines in the store and began reading them. Around the age of eleven, he began to write his own stories.
Apart from works of fiction, Asimov made an interesting prediction of our current world way back in 1964. In a New York Times article, he dared to divine the future of our world. Within it, he correctly predicted self-driving cars, video calling, widespread adoption of nuclear power and even household robots. He also divined that our societies of today would suffer from “the disease of boredom”. We might not be fully there yet, but this is a very real possibility if our lives become fully automated.
Asimov also thought we would be on our way to establishing human settlements on the moon. However, it’ll likely take longer than that for any nation to establish a permanent lunar settlement.
Asimov died on April 6, 1992. Ten years after his death, his second wife Janet Asimov’s edition of Asimov’s autobiography, It’s Been a Good Life, came out.
24.How is the second paragraph developed?
A.By giving examples. B.By analyzing causes.
C.By making comparisons. D.By following the time order.
25.What does the underlined word “divine” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Shape. B.Predict. C.Ignore. D.Consider.
26.Which of the following best describes Isaac Asimov?
A.Selfless & Creative. B.Productive & Insightful.
C.Doubtful & Helpful. D.Optimistic & Generous.
27.Where can the text be found?
A.In a magazine. B.In a brochure.
C.In a guidebook. D.In an autobiography.

Researchers have made a digital map showing a tiny piece of a human brain in unknown detail. The map represents a cubic millimeter of brain — an area about half the size of a grain of rice. But even that tiny part is overflowing with a large amount of information — containing about 57,000 cells, 230 millimeters of blood vessels and 150 million synapses (突触), the connections between neurons (神经元).
The researchers published their findings in a journal. They have made the data set freely available online and provided tools for analyzing it. “In one respect, our data set is tiny,” Jeff Lichtman, a co-author of the study says. “But it doesn’t feel small, because when you get in it, you see it’s like a huge forest.”
For the new paper, the researchers turned to a piece of brain tissue from a person with epilepsy (癫痫). The data has already brought some unexpected findings for the researchers. For instance, they found some rare sites where neurons were connected by more than 50 synapses. This is incredibly uncommon — more than 96 percent of connections between neurons have just one synapse, and more than 99 percent have three or fewer synapses.
“These strong connections might show what learning looks like in the brain,” Lichtman assumes. They represent behaviors so well-practiced that they require almost no thought at all, such as moving your foot from the accelerator to the brake when stopping a car. However, he thinks while the tissue sample didn’t have any evidence of disease, they can’t be certain whether these surprises are in some way related to the person’s epilepsy or treatments. Studying other tissue samples could give them a clearer idea.
Next, the researchers would like to map a mouse’s brain. But in the meantime, the human statistics they currently have will push other researchers to learn more about the human brain, especially its unknown areas.
28.What does the digital map created by the researchers show?
A.Mainly the huge synapses.
B.The entire network of neurons.
C.Various aspect of the human brain.
D.Detailed information about a small brain area.
29.How does paragraph 3 illustrate the rarity of the findings?
A.By listing data. B.By citing papers.
C.By making an assumption. D.By describing a phenomenon.
30.What is Lichtman’s attitude to the findings?
A.Grateful. B.Cautious. C.Critical. D.Indifferent.
31.What can we learn about the effect of the research from the last paragraph?
A.It is expected. B.It is inspiring. C.It is unknown. D.It is confusing.
D
Do you know what a pickleball is? In the last few years, pickleball has taken Europe and North America by storm. There’re more than 200 official community clubs registered with Pickleball Canada and an estimated one million Canadians playing each month.
“Pickleball takes inspiration from tennis, badminton and table tennis,” says Hope Tolley, managing director of recreational programs for USA Pickleball. It’s played on a badminton-sized court and with a net that’s almost as high as for tennis. Players use square paddles (球拍) and a small plastic ball with some holes that’s similar in size to a tennis ball, but much lighter. Since the lighter ball doesn’t bounce as much, it’s easier to get a rally (continuous back-and-forth play) going.
Unlike tennis, you can score only when it’s your turn to serve. If your receiver fails to return the ball over the net, either from the serve or in a rally, you get the point. Be sure to hit with enough force or you’ll end up with a “falafel” — a shot that falls short of the net. Matches can be played in doubles or singles, and games are played to 11 points and must be won by a margin (差额) of two points. Lose with a score of 11 -0 and you’ve been “pickled”!
Playing the game can improve your hand-eye coordination and increase your reaction time, because you can vary the intensity — going to all lengths from the beginning or taking a slower pace. “It can be played in non-traditional spaces like gyms and parking lots,” says Tolley. “Any smooth surface will work, as long as you have a net, a ball and a paddle.”
Pickleball is easy to learn and is accessible to anyone. People who are really into the sport can join tournaments at various levels. It is the most inclusive (包容性的) game in the world. By 2030, pickleball is expected to have as many as 40 million players worldwide.
32.Why does the author begin the text with a question?
A.To let people learn about pickleball.
B.To introduce the topic of the text.
C.To show the pickleball is popular.
D.To express his interest in pickleball.
33.What do pickleball and tennis have in common?
A.Having plastic balls with similar size.
B.Having paddles with the same weight.
C.Using round paddles and heavy balls.
D.Originating in table tennis and badminton.
34.Which of the following is the advantage of pickleball?
A.It’s easy to make your opponents be defeated.
B.Players win the match by getting nine points.
C.It’s good to improving players’ eyesight.
D.Players can play it at most open places.
35.What can we infer about pickleball from the last paragraph?
A.It’s been enjoyed mostly by young people.
B.It’s easy to get a prize in a tournament.
C.It’s fit for many different people.
D.It’s urgent to hold matches of various levels.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to Study Effectively
With pressure and competition rising in education, students nowadays are eager to find the best methods or tools to improve their academic scores. So, questions like “What is the best study method?” or “How can I learn knowledge faster?” arise in their minds. 36 .
Play the role of a teacher
A useful way to remember lessons is to explain them aloud to yourself. Once you learn a study material, try to explain it to yourself or your friends as your teachers explain it to you. This will help you to clear your confusion related to the lesson. 37 . This will not only help the details stick in your mind but help you to be well prepared for your exams.
38
Many students face a challenge like “Why can’t I remember what I’ve studied?”. 39 . A tired brain is a barrier to learning. Exercise before studying helps to lift your mood. In fact, physical activity helps wake you up so you feel ready when you sit down with your books.
Absorb information in smaller chunks (块)
40 : You divide the 11 numbers into three smaller groups. It’s easier to get these three chunks to stick in your mind than it is to remember the whole thing as a single string of information. You can use this strategy when studying by breaking a list down into smaller parts. Work on memorizing each part as its own group.
Last but not the least, these tips on how to study effectively can only work if there is enough motivation and willpower to do well. You have to motivate yourself to reach the study goals.
A.Work out before studying
B.You can call your parents for help
C.Start with your toughest assignments
D.It has a lot to do with the brain getting too tired
E.Think about how you memorize a phone number
F.The following are some of the best tips on how to study effectively
G.Also, you can ask yourself questions just like your teachers would ask you

No matter how rotten I had been, I could tell Grandpa anything. My secrets were safe. Whenever there was a problem, he gave me the tools to fix it. I knew I would always find the best answer from him. He always understood. He loved me.
I remember a time when a bunch of us were playing baseball in the field behind Mrs. Ferguson’s house. I hit one pitch just right and… slam! It was a home run that soared high and away, and ended up breaking Old Lady Ferguson’s kitchen window! We all ran!
Walking home, my best friend, Tom, asked, "How will she ever know who did it? She’s blinder than a bat!” He had a point.
I was afraid that Mrs. Ferguson would stay mad at me, so I ran. I didn’t know what she would do. I tried to calm down. However, my stomach was in knots. On the way home, I imagined that she was a mean witch (女巫) chasing me, and the further way I ran, the larger she grew… until finally she towered over the whole town, seeing my every move with an evil eye. Thoughts rushed through my mind. Would Mrs. Ferguson stay mad at me? Would she call police? Worse still, would she tell my parents. I couldn’t even imagine the disappointment on Mom and Dad’s face. They were hoping I would act honestly and in a responsible way.
I decided to stop by Grandpa’s. I felt ashamed. I wanted to hide. I wanted to knock my head against a tree a thousand times and make the world just go away — as if punishing myself could undo things.
But inside me a voice said: “I would tell everything to Grandpa.”
“I was wrong,” I told him, with my head down. He must have known something was up by the expression on my face. He knew we had been warned many times about the dangers of playing where we shouldn’t.

Good evening, gentlemen and boys! Thank you for being here this evening. We’re here to congratulate the top achievers of this year. The boys here have worked hard in order to be a part of this ceremony.
Recognition of achievement can make us push ourselves and reach our full potential. The prizewinners are a true representation of everything that we value here at Hampton School. I have every confidence that you young men will be precisely the kind of young people who will make a positive difference to the country and the world. Your success will be built on being true to yourself. You should recognize your problems and doubts as well as your positive qualities. I remember listening to an interview with Andy Murray, one of the top tennis players in the world. After he was defeated in the first round of a tournament by a much lower ranked player, the media went crazy. However, Murray was straightforward and wise. “Nobody died here, “ he said, “I only lost a tennis match, nothing more. “ We are proud of our prizewinners today. They should be proud of themselves. But let’s be clear, if you link motivation to winning prizes in life, you set yourself up for disappointment. The greatest prize of all is that you can look yourself in the eye and say, “I tried my absolute best. “

【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.B
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了研究人员制作了一张显示人脑一小部分的详细数字地图,这个地图已经为研究人员带来了一些意想不到的发现。
28.细节理解题。根据文章第一段“The map represents a cubic millimeter of brain—an area about half the size of a grain of rice. But even that tiny part is overflowing with a large amount of information—containing about 57,000 cells, 230 millimeters of blood vessels and 150 million synapses (突触), the connections between neurons (神经元).”(这张地图代表了一个立方毫米的大脑——一个大约半粒米大小的区域。
根据文章第三段“They found some rare sites where neurons were connected by more than 50 synapses. This is incredibly uncommon—more than 96 percent of connections between neurons have just one synapse, and more than 99 percent have three or fewer synapses.”(他们发现了一些罕见的地方,那里的神经元通过超过50个突触连接。这是非常罕见的——超过96%的神经元连接只有一个突触,超过99%的神经元连接有三个或更少的突触。)可知,通过列举数据来说明这个发现的稀有性。故选A。
30.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“However, he thinks while the tissue sample didn’t have any evidence of disease, they can’t be certain whether these surprises are in some way related to the person’s epilepsy or treatments. Studying other tissue samples could give them a clearer idea.”(然而,他认为,虽然组织样本没有任何疾病的证据,但他们不能确定这些惊喜是否以某种方式与这个人的癫痫或治疗有关。研究其他组织样本可能会给他们一个更清晰的想法。)可知,Lichtman对于这些发现持谨慎态度。故选B。
31.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“But in the meantime, the human statistics they currently have will push other researchers to learn more about the human brain, especially its unknown areas.”(但与此同时,他们目前拥有的人类统计数据将推动其他研究人员更多地了解人脑,尤其是它的未知区域。)可知,这项研究的效果是鼓舞人心的,故选B。

【答案】32.B 33.A 34.D 35.C

Grandfather was a wise and honorable man. His house was not far from ours, and I would visit him often going home after school.
