I’m “T”, it was magic.
How was that possible? How could I be so full of peace and full of wonder? How could this simple tree make me feel so alive?
I went up the tree every chance I got. And in junior high that became almost every day because the bus to our school picks up on Collier Street, right in front of the sycamore (梧桐) tree. At first I just wanted to see how high I could get before the bus arrived, but soon I was leaving the house early so I could get up to my spot (位置) to see the sun rise, or the bird fly, or just the other kids at the street. I tried to get the kids at the bus stop to climb up with me, but they all refused because they didn’t want to get dirty. Turn down a chance to feel magic for fear of a little dirt (尘土)? I couldn’t believe it.
I’d never told my mother about climbing the tree. I was so sure she would have told me it was too dangerous. My brothers, of course, wouldn’t have cared.
That left my father. The one person I knew would understand. Still, I was afraid to tell him. He’d tell my mother and pretty soon they’d stop me. So I kept quiet, kept climbing, and felt a lonely joy as I looked out over the world.
Then a few months ago I found myself talking to the tree. A whole conversation, just me and a tree. And after climbing down I felt like crying. Why didn’t I have someone real to talk to? Why didn’t I have a best friend like everyone else seemed to? Sure, there were kids I knew at school, but none of them were close friends. They’d have no interest in climbing the tree. In smelling the sunshine.
—Adapted from Flipped

You’ve probably seen pretty plates made of special slay (黏土), but did you know they can have little cut-out designs and clay flowers on them? This is called Tonghua porcelain (瓷器), and it comes from a place called Fengxi town in Chaozhou city, Guangdong Province. It’s so special that it became a national treasure in 2008.
Ye Hao, born in 1995, comes from a family that makes Tonghua porcelain. He’s been learning how to make it for 10 year sand is creatively bringing new life to it.
Seeing the number of people with Tonghua skills drop quickly in Chaozhou he felt sad and he wanted to learn and preserve the art, Ye began learning it in high school, believing that every Tonghua porcelain piece has a life of its own.
“My grandpa always encouraged me to practice more,” Ye said. He learned that the clay needs the right amount of water, or it will crack (裂开). After learning all the skills, he found that designing is the hardest part, because Tonghua porcelain has lots of little cut-out shapes, and you have to think about how big they are and how they’re put together. If a cut-out is too large, it is likely to crack during firing.
Ye wants to make the art more creative, so he’s combining (结合) Tonghua porcelain with daily things and his hobbies. For example, he made a special pin (胸针) with a clay rose that was picked by the Culture Department in Guangdong as a special gift. He also likes cartoons, so he designed six cups with characters from the cartoon “The Outcast” on top, mixing traditional art with pop culture.
Ye says he will keep finding ways to make the art part of everyday life and show it to more people with new designs.

A. To let us make more Tonghua porcelain. B. To show something special of traditional arts.
C. To know how to make Tonghua porcelain. D. To praise how great Ye Hao is.
35. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Making a different Art National Treasure B. Knowing the Skills of Making Tonghua
C. Designing a New Kind of Porcelain D. Bringing a New Life to Tonghua Porcelain

①The C919, China’s first home-grown airplane, plays an important role in the country’s aviation industry (航空业). This exciting development means that China is now able to build its own airplanes, just like the big names Boeing and Airbus.
②The C919 is a bit like the Airbus A320 and the Boeing B737. It can carry between 158 and 192 passengers and can fly distances between 4, 075 kilometers to 5, 555 kilometers. That’s enough to fly from one side of China to the other!
③China Eastern Airlines (航空公司), which got its C919s first, has already used them on several routes (线路) within China. The C919s, flying with China Eastern Airlines last year, have completed over 3, 600 flights and flown for more than 10, 000 hours. That’s a lot of flying and a good sign that the plane can be trusted.
④Air China and China Southern Airlines have just taken delivery of (收货) their first C919 airplanes. They plan to use these planes on many different routes, which means more people will get to fly on them.
⑤Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines have all ordered 100 C919s each, and they expect to get all of them by 2031. So far, more than 1, 000 orders have been placed for the C919. That’s a lot of interest in a new airplane!
⑥China’s air travel market is growing fast, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. As more people travel, the request for airplanes will keep increasing.
⑦Experts predict that China’s air travel market will become the biggest in the world by 2043. That means a lot more airplanes will be needed, and the C919 could be a big part of that growth.
⑧The C919 is not just about flying people from one place to another. ▲ This can lead to even more advanced (先进的) products in the future. So, the C919 is not just an airplane; it’s a symbol of China’s progress and a sign of even greater things to come.
36. Why is the C919 important to China’s aviation industry?
A Because it’s China’s first home-grown airplane.
B. Because it’s much better than the Airbus A320.
C Because it can fly from one side of Russia to the other.
D. Because it’s the first fighter plane made by China.
37. What can we know from the underlined sentence in Paragraph ③?
A. China Eastern Airlines is the most popular. B. The C919 has worked well so far.
C. The C919 has been used by many countries. D. There will be fewer orders for the C919.
38. Which of the following is probably missing in the ▲ ?
A. It’s also stopping China making better airplanes.
B. It’s also stopping people thinking out more creative ideas.
C. It’s also helping China to develop new technologies.
D. It’s also helping people to develop healthier lifestyles.
39. Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage?
(①= Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2 ③= Paragraph 3 ④= Paragraph 4 ⑤= Paragraph 5 ⑥= Paragraph 6 ⑦= Paragraph 7 ⑧=Paragraph 8)

“Come on, Amy. You must TRY HARDER,” Amy told herself silently. She was in her class’s Second-Day-of-School Game with her teammates of the Blue Team, whom she only met yesterday. This was her first chance to make new friends.
Since the Blue Team left the park, they had worked out the first two clues (线索) and had been to the post office. Now they were in front of the cinema.
Henry was reading aloud the third clue: Go to our town founder’s last resting place.
“I know THIS ONE!” Amy thought, excitedly, but said nothing.
“To the cemetery (墓地),” Cindy said.
“No, wait!” Amy said. “I’ve read about it. The founder was buried near the library.” “Wow. I’ve walked by every day,” Tyler said. “Never knew that!”
“Good job! That will save valuable time,” Cindy smiled at Amy.
“We still need to hurry,” Tyler reminded, pointing to the Yellow Team coming near.
“I know a shortcut!” Henry suggested. “Follow me!” No one moved.
“No, seriously,” Henry said. “You know I’m always running late. I know every shortcut in town.” The others finally agreed.
A few sharp turns, and they were there! This time Amy read the clue aloud: Now go to the place where the football is running around!
“The football stadium (场馆)!” They called out together and started to run.
Now they’d got the final clue: Look where you’ve been, see where you are. Use your map wisely and you’ll be a star!
Looking closely at the map, everyone thought hard.
“Aha! A star!” Amy suddenly broke the silence. She quickly took out a pencil.

What was the worst was that he found himself unable to ___55___ help— his mobile phone didn’t work because the battery was dead. Nothing could be done but wait in the cold wilderness (荒野). Eight hours later, the day broke, and then the rescue team arrived.
It was almost ___56___ that he could stand the fear, in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his explanation, “First of all I checked my body and found myself not in deadly danger. As there was no way to call for help, I lay back in my seat, trying my best to keep the wound from ___57___ . I ___58___ in this way.”
Meanwhile, another story made me feel sorry with ___59___ and pity. A group of young men tried to explore a mountain cave and got lost.

Ye Hao, born in 1995, comes from a family that makes Tonghua porcelain. He’s been learning how to make it for 10 year sand is creatively bringing new life to it.
Seeing the number of people with Tonghua skills drop quickly in Chaozhou, he felt sad and he wanted to learn and preserve the art, Ye began learning it in high school, believing that every Tonghua porcelain piece has a life of its own.

As they watched her drawing lines on the map, everyone understood.
