B I first met Paul Newman in 1968, when George Roy Hill, the director of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, introduced us in New York City. When the film company didn’t want me for the film—it wanted somebody as well known as Paul—he stood up for me. I don’t know how many people would have done that; they would have listened to their agents (经纪人). The friendship that grew out of the experience of making that film and The Sting four years later had its root in the fact that although there was an age difference, we both came from a tradition of theater and live TV. We were respectful of craft (技艺 ) and focused on digging into the characters we were going to play. Both of us had the qualities that are typical of American actors: humorous, aggressive, and making fun of each other—but always with an underlying affection. Those were also at the core (核心) of our relationship off the screen. We shared the belief that if you’re lucky enough to have success, you should put something back—he with his Newman’s Own food and his Hole in the Wall camps for kids who are seriously ill, and me with Sundance and the festival. Paul and I didn’t see each other all that often, but sharing that brought us together. We supported each other by showing up at events. I last saw him a few months ago. He’d been in and out of the hospital. He and I both knew what the deal was, and we didn’t talk about it. Ours was a relationship that didn’t need a lot of words. 高一英语试题 第 页(共 8页)4 24. Why was the film company unwilling to give the role to the author at first? A. He wasn’t famous enough. B. Paul Newman wanted it. C. The film company didn’t like his agent. D. The director recommended someone else. 25. Why did Paul and the author have a lasting friendship? A. They were of the same age. B. They were both good actors. C. They had similar characteristics. D. They worked in the same theater. 26. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. Their success. B. Their belief. C. Their care for children. D. Their support for each other. 27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To share his acting experience. B. To show his love of films. C. To introduce a new movie. D. To remember a friend. C Cultural heritage is a variety of local treasures from different places. These treasures often increase people’s pride in their hometown. Thus, protecting cultural heritage is of great significance and importance. In protecting cultural heritage, countries around the world should join hands further to deal with issues. Today there are shared measures to preserve cultural heritage. However, countries still have different views on cultural heritage preservation. Asian and European architecture is very different, for example. European buildings are often stone structures (结构) that can stand damage caused by wind and rain, while those in the East are more often wooden structures which require renovation (整修). This gives rise to different views on how to preserve ancient architecture. From the very beginning, Europeans have the opinion that people should take fewer measures in the process of protecting cultural heritage. For example, the ruins of the Roman Colosseum have simply been left as they are, but Asia has a tradition of renovation of cultural relics and we believe that this measure will not affect their authenticity (真实性). The Ise Grand Shrine building in Japan is rebuilt every 20 years from one generation to the next. Such tradition caused a debate in international cultural heritage preservation circles, as some thought that the rebuilding process would harm its authenticity. Experts around the world travelled to Japan especially to conduct onsite check and discussions, and they finally recognized that the term “authenticity” actually varies from culture to culture. The importance of these international exchanges is that they will help the world understand Asia, and accept Asian ways to protect cultural heritage. 28. What is the purpose of paragraph 1? A. To call for action. B. To provide an example. C. To make a comparison. D. To present an argument. 29. What does the underlined phrase “gives rise to” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Applies to. B. Leads to. C. Refers to. D. Sticks to. 30. What contribute largely to different practices in Europe and Asia on cultural heritage preservation? A. Technological levels. B. Economic systems. C. Established beliefs. D. Geographical characteristics. 高一英语试题 第 页(共 8页)5 31. What does the author agree to in protecting cultural heritage? A. International communication counts. B. We’re supposed to follow the crowd. C. Rebuilding does more harm than good. D. Western ways are preferable to Asian ones. D Two car manufacturing companies in the US have been developing selfdriving taxis, sometimes called “robotaxis”. Before August, their cars have had a human in the driver’s seat, ready to take over if there was a problem, and they could only drive in specific areas, at certain times. In early August, they weren’t required to have safety drivers in their cars. They were programmed to do everything on their own, including observing the rules of the road, following speed limits, and avoiding people and other cars. The move was a big step for selfdriving cars, and many people were excited about the change. But almost immediately, there were problems coming along. A selfdriving car crashed into a fire truck, causing a person seriously injured. Later, another one failed to work in the middle of a crossroad, causing a traffic jam. As a result, the two companies were told to take half of its robotaxis off the roads. In one recent example, a selfdriving car got stuck in wet concrete (混凝土) because it didn’t know that wet concrete was different from a road. In another case, a robotaxi killed a dog. The selfdriving system knew the dog was there, but didn’t know how to avoid it. Most people believe that selfdriving cars aren’t ready for the real world. Those who are upset about selfdriving cars have found an unusual way to be against them: putting traffic cones (路 锥) on the hoods (引擎盖) of robotaxis, which can confuse the cars’ driving system and leave them unable to move. In spite of the problems, both companies are planning to expand (扩大) their selfdriving car service to other cities. One of them says its driverless system will soon be able to work in any city, on any kind of vehicle. Though the quality of selfdriving cars is improving, it’s likely to be a while before most people view them as safe. 32. What is the recent major change to the robotaxis? A. They are limited in their speed. B. They must observe the traffic rules. C. They can work at certain times of a day. D. They can drive without a human driver. 33. What problem happened to robotaxis? A. They killed a person in an accident. B. They couldn’t avoid the traffic cones. C. They sometimes broke down on the roads. D. They often failed to recognize the directions. 34. How do most people feel about robotaxis? A. Concerned. B. Content. C. Curious. D. Confused. 35. Which is the best title for the text? A. Robotaxis struggled to survive, but failed finally. B. Robotaxis move forward, but far from satisfaction. C. Robotaxis driven by a perfect selfdriving system. D. Robotaxis expanding to more cities in America. 高一英语试题 第 页(共 8页)6 第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Math attitude affects math achievement, a new study finds. It suggests that developing a positive, cando attitude about math can help students master the subject. The researchers surveyed the students on math and then compared their reported feelings about math to their grades. 36 How kids feel about the subject in one year is related to their math grades the next. Those who have gotten poor grades feel badly about math. And those who have dark emotions do poorly. 37 But the cycle (循环) doesn’t have to be negative. While dark feelings, such as fear and anger, may be related to poor grades, that relation between feelings and grades works the other way, too. Good feelings about math—taking pride in math achievement and enjoying math class—also contribute to better grades. It’s an excellent study for teaching and learning. Teaching math isn’t just about numbers and mathematical rules. 38 Do they take steps to them with curiosity or fear? Teachers can help by teaching mathematical rules clearly, of course. But they also can help by grading students based on how much they improve over time, which gives students a sense of achievement. 39 This means more than just doing their homework. Instead of imagining that upsetting result will continue, students can look at why they aren’t succeeding. Maybe they didn’t study enough. Maybe they need a new study strategy. 40 A. Students need to do their part, too. B. They drop math as soon as they can. C. How students feel about them is also very important. D. So poor math grades result in bad feelings about math. E. Emotions have a real influence on students’ grades over time. F. The survey shows those feelings are connected with their math grades. G. Whatever the cause, they can take some steps to control how they learn math. 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分 30分) 第一节 (共 15小题;每小题 1分,满分 15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When I was a boy I was great at math. One warm spring day, a little dog with short legs and long ears followed them home after school. So cute was the dog that the girls begged me to keep it. The dog was about twelve weeks old. It had no identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about posting an advertisement but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. By the end of the week the dog was part of our family, connecting well with the girls. However, the next week, I noticed an advertisement in the local paper looking for a lost dog from our school’s neighborhood. My heart beat fast and my hand shook for what I read. I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the phone. Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement and never said a word about it to the kids. By now we had named the dog Molly. Molly followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. When they did the housework, it was there to lend a hand. There was only one problem with this seemingly perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was troubling me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number in the paper and see if our Molly was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 100个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Our Cultural Heritage, Our Responsibility With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone.
