In my opinion, the wheel is the most important thing that human beings have ever invented. It might seem strange to say that something so simple-looking and so ordinary (普通的) could be so important. But if you consider the following points, you will probably agree with me.
Firstly, wheels influence almost every part of our lives. Wheels are used, for example, in clocks, engines (发动机) and trucks. If you visit just one factory, you will see how important wheels are. You will see wheels on almost every machine.
Secondly, wheels play a great part in food production. Wheels are used to grind (磨碎) different kinds of corn into flour (面粉). They are then used to mix flour and other foods into bread. We also need wheels to transport the wheat. If we did not have the wheel, we would have much difficulty in food production.
Thirdly, our world would be completely different if we did not have the wheel for transport. Before the wheel was invented, people used to have to travel on foot or by riding on an animal. That is what we would be doing now if we did not have the wheel. Everything would take longer to do.
We would be back to the Stone Age if some of our clever ancestors (祖先) had not invented the wheel. Our modern world would simply be impossible. The wheel is surely the most important invention of all time.
31. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By making a report. C. By giving an opinion. D. By offering a suggestion.
32. Which of the following is the most important in a factory?
A. The clock. B. The truck. C. The engine. D. The wheel.
33. How many uses of wheels are mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
34. According to the passage, what was life like before wheels were invented?
A. Safe. B. Busy. C. Slow. D. Dangerous.
35. Which of the following best show the structure of the passage?

Pinyin, a system (体系) that uses Latin letters, tells us how to pronounce Chinese characters. What you learned in your first Chinese class in primary school was probably pinyin. The year 2018 marked pinyin’s sixtieth birthday.
In 1958, Chinese linguist (语言学家) Zhou Youguang and his team Pinyin designed pinyin. Before that, Chinese people used many other methods to denote the pronunciation of Chinese characters. In ancient China, people used other Chinese characters that had the same pronunciation to denote Chinese characters. Some of the symbols were Chinese character strokes (笔画). For example, a vertical stroke (一竖) was pronounced as “i” in pinyin. Some people in the southeast of China still use this method. However, these methods are not as simple to use as pinyin. Because of pinyin, many illiterate (不识字的) people have learned how to read. We use pinyin to get Chinese characters into computers and phones. Pinyin has been useful in other ways too. It helps to introduce the use of Standard Chinese, or Mandarin, so people who speak different dialects (方言) can still understand each other.
Pinyin is not only popular in China. Many people around the world start to learn Chinese by learning pinyin. You might say “nihao” instead of “hello” to a foreign friend. The Oxford English Dictionary includes more than 100 Chinese words in pinyin, such as “zhongguomeng” for “Chinese dream”, and “wanggou” for “online shopping”.
Pinyin is not only a language, but also a cultural bridge that joins China to the world, Guangming Daily noted. Pinyin is still young, but it has been and will still be a useful tool (工具) in the future.

A. pinyin is popular only in China B. pinyin is popular all over the world

(P1=Paragraph 1 P2=Paragraph 2 P3=Paragraph 3 P4=Paragraph 4 P5=Paragraph 5)
A. B. C. D.
(C)
36. The underlined word “denote” in the second paragraph probably means “________” in Chinese.
A. 改变 B. 发展 C. 奉献 D. 标注
37. Paragraph 2 mainly tells us about ________.
A. the history of pinyin B. the designers of pinyin
C. the problems of pinyin D. the future of pinyin
38. The writer talks about The Oxford English Dictionary to tell us _______.
A. pinyin is popular only in China B. pinyin is popular all over the world
C. pinyin will not be used in the future D. English will be replaced by pinyin
39. What does the writer think of the future of pinyin?
