阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Natural disaster movies feature some of the worst events that nature has to offer. A lot of these films have fallen flat on their face, because a lot of times their sole purpose is to showcase pretty special effects and not much else.
Don’t Look Up (2021)
Disaster: Asteroid (小行星) impact
Normally, when disaster movies are made they tend to focus more on the action side of things or on the tragedy (悲剧) of many lives being lost. Don’t look Up this movie is a comedy at heart, and turns a serious, potentially bad situation into something truly funny.
Only the Brave (2017)
Disaster: Wildfire
This one is specifically about a team of 20 firefighters who risked their own lives to fight the very real 2013 Yarnell Hill Wildfire. 19 of these 20 did not come home. This movie shows how firefighters are somewhat underappreciated members of society that deserve more credit, especially with the danger they face.
Deep Impact (1998)
Disaster: Asteroid impact
It is a movie that didn’t get very good reviews when it first came out, but it is a lot easier to appreciate now. There aren’t a lot of asteroid disaster movies out there that have as many enjoyable moments as this one does. Plus, it has Morgan Freeman in it, who is always a welcome addition.
The Impossible (2012)
Disaster: Tsunami (海啸)
The Impossible is based on a Spanish family experience surviving the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, which reportedly claimed over 250,000 lives in 14 different countries. That’s right: this movie is based on true events.
21. What is special about Don’t look Up?
A. It tells terrible scenes. B. It shows survival methods.
C. Morgan Freeman is in it. D. Its plot is full of humor.
22. What moves us most in Only the Brave?
A. People’s quick reaction to the fire. B. Firefighters’ spirit of devotion.
C. People’s gratitude to firefighters. D. The enjoyable moments.
23. Which movie describes the terrible scene in the ocean?
A. Don’t Look Up. B. Only the Brave. C. The Impossible. D. Deep Impact.

I love learning foreign languages. In fact, I love it so much that I like to learn a new language every two years. I am currently working on my eighth one.
When people find that out about me, they always ask, “What's your secret?” They want to know why they spend years learning even one language, never achieving fluency. They also want to know the secret of polyglots (通晓数种语言的人). And that makes me wonder, too. How do other polyglots do it? What do we have in common? I decided to meet other people like me and find that out.
I met Benny from Ireland, who told me that his method is to start speaking from day one. He learns a few phrases from a travel phrasebook and then goes to meet native speakers and starts having conversations with them right away. He doesn't mind even if he makes 200 mistakes a day, because that's how he learns, based on the feedback (反馈).
I also met polyglots who always start by imitating the sounds of the language, others who always learn the 500 most frequent words, and yet others who always start by reading about the grammar. If I asked a hundred different polyglots, I would hear a hundred different approaches to learning languages. Everybody seems to have a unique method to learn a language, and yet we all achieve the same result of speaking several languages fluently.
And as I was listening to these polyglots telling me about their methods, I suddenly realized that the one thing we all have in common is that we have simply found our own ways to enjoy the language learning process. We are no geniuses and we have no shortcuts to learning languages. We simply found ways to enjoy the process, to turn language learning from a boring school subject into a pleasant activity which we don't mind doing every day.
24. What can we know about the author from the first two paragraphs?
A. She is fluent in several languages.
B. She is more talented than other polyglots.
C. She often uses eight languages in her daily work.
D She devotes herself to teaching foreign languages.
25. How does Benny learn foreign languages?
A. By practicing grammar rules. B. By memorizing common words.
C. By talking with native speakers. D. By imitating the sounds of languages.
26. What do these polyglots have in common?
A. They achieve success in schools. B. They have great talent for language.
C. They are not afraid of making mistakes. D. They find joy from the learning process.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Secrets of Learning a New Language
B. Different Approaches to Learning English
C. Why Do Humans Speak So Many Languages?
D. How Should We Start Learning English at School?
【答案】24. A 25. C 26. D 27. A

Turning red-hot lava from an active volcano into electricity would be dangerous and unreliable. But many countries, including the U.S. have found ways to use volcanic heat to make electricity. Geothermal energy (地热能) is generated by natural processes deep within the Earth, and in volcanically active regions, the heat is much more intense, sometimes melting rock to form magma (熔岩).
To make use of this energy, engineers identify areas where magma is near the surface and drill deep wells down to the heated rocks and water. These wells bring steam to the surface, which is directed into power plant to generate electricity. After it produces electricity, the steam cools and condenses back into hot water. The water may be used to convert a different liquid with a much lower boiling point, such as butane (丁烷), to drive a second power generation. Then, it is pumped back underground to be reheated.
The Earth constantly produces heat, so geothermal energy is a renewable resource. Geothermal power plants produce much less pollution, waste and greenhouse gas emissions that warm Earth’s climate than burning coal, gas, oil, or nuclear energy, Geothermal energy sources can last for decades or even longer. Unlike other renewable sources, such as solar and wind power, which depend on weather conditions, geothermal energy is available every day of the year.
However, geothermal energy is not as widely used as wind or solar power because geothermal power plants need to be near volcanoes or other places where it is unusually hot beneath the surface. These resources aren’t always near large cities or industries that use a lot of electricity. Drilling deep wells and building power plants can be expensive. However, the long-term benefits of geothermal power often outweigh the initial costs.
Despite these challenges, tapping into (开发) the Earth’s natural heat can create a renewable, reliable, and clean energy source. As technology improves, more places around the world will turn to geothermal energy to light up people’s lives. Volcanoes are reminders of a great powerhouse deep underground that’s waiting to be tapped.
32. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The value of volcanic heat.
B. The applications of geothermal energy.
C. The difficulty of making use of volcanic heat.
D. The process of tapping into geothermal energy.
33. What advantage does geothermal energy have over other renewable energy?
A. It has a lower cost. B. It has a constant supply.
C. It is environmentally friendly. D. It generates electricity more efficiently.
34. Why is geothermal energy difficult to be widely used?
A. Building power plants near volcanoes is dangerous.
B. Geothermal energy depends a lot on weather conditions.
C. Its long-term benefits are insufficient to gain financial support.
D. The resources are limited in areas with high electricity demand.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards exploiting volcanic heat?
A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Disapproving
【答案】32. D 33. B 34. D 35.

D. She devotes herself to teaching foreign languages.
C
Was it probable that Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai and Western hero King Arthur meet and fight against each other? Yes. In a game called King of Glory, created by Chinese company Tencent, King of Glory has been one of the most popular MOBA games in China since 2017.
About one in every seven Chinese people plays the game, and 55 million of them play it every day. The game is easy for beginners. Social media like QQ and WeChat have also helped the game’s community grow. New players can be invited to play the game by their WeChat contacts, with some seeing it as a good way to keep in touch with old friends and make new ones.
The game has more than 60 characters to unlock and play as you progress, each with their own special style and abilities. The characters cover different times and countries. Some are real historical characters, like Li Bai. Some are not. Players use them to fight against each other or team up to fight. The winners can reach higher ranks.
However, some people think King of Glory gives the students incorrect information about events and people in history. For example, the poet Li Bai is described as a killer; Jing Ke, the man who tried to kill the first emperor of China, is a girl in the game. But more people worry about children playing the game too much and spending too much money on it. Most of the players are below the age of 19. It’s reported that a l7-year-old boy had a stroke (中风) after playing the game for 40 hours.
To change the situation, Tencent added a time limit feature to the game to prevent kids from playing too much. From July 4, 2017, children under 12 years old can play the game for only one hour a day, while users between 12 and 18 get two hours. Those who try to play beyond the time limit will be locked out of the game.
28. What can we learn about King of Glory?
A It is the most popular online game in the world.
B. It offers 60 characters for players to choose from.
C. All of the characters are real historical characters.
D. Players fight against each other or team up to fight.
29. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Only young people play the game.
B. Many people don’t think the game is so good.
C. Children play the game too much and waste too much time.
D. The game gives children false information about history.
30. Why was a time limit feature added to the game?
A. To save money for players. B. To avoid teenagers’ playing.
C. To prevent excessive addiction. D. To appeal to more teenagers.
31. Which of the following is NOT true about King of Glory?
A. It’s arguably popular. B. It’s created by Tencent.
C. It’s popular around the world. D. Some people think it’s a good way to make friends.
D
B The applications of geothermal energy.
D The resources are limited in areas with high electricity demand.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards exploiting volcanic heat?
A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Disapproving
