understanding
"Don't judge a book by its cover,"the old saying goes. Unfortunately,as a teenager, that is often exactly what you do to yourself.Dark thoughts about your physical appearance can hang over you all the time like a rain
cloud.Do I look fat in these jeans?Do others think I am too-short?Is everyone laughing at my new hairstyle behind my back? These thoughts can have a negative
effect on people of any shape or size, both male and female, and it is important to guard against the causes behind them.

Introduction
What dark thoughts teenagers have?
Your friends also influence the way you view your physical appearance. If you have friends who are good-looking or have a great fashion sense,it can feel like you
are living in their shadow. For children of the digital age, social media makes this problem even worse.Your friends may post a never-ending series of photos online to show off their beautiful dresses or strong bodies, and it becomes easier for you to compare yourself to them. This has proved to have a negative effect on what you
think of your physical appearance.
your physical appearance.Teens who try to copy the looks of their favourite stars are fighting a losing battle—these standards are simply impossible for most of the population to live up to.They will only end up feeling worse about themselves.
Standards of beauty in the media can have a big influence on what you think of

Cause 1 (Para.2)
Cause1:Standards of beauty in the media.
Standards of beauty in the media can have a big influence on what you
think of your physical appearance.Teens who try to copy the looks of
their favourite stars are fighting a losing battle—these standards are
simply impossible for most of the population to live up to.They will only end up feeling worse about themselves.
Deep thinking(para.2)
1.The media put forward some standards of beauty. What are they? A person who possesses beauty might have a slir figure,
pointed chin, double eyelids and fta Standards of beauty in the
2.Why does the author say those re- media are unreliable! le?
It is impossible for the teens to live upome stanoards of beauty. As a result, they may feel more worried and disappointed.
Cause 2 (Para.3) Cause2:Your friends.
Your friends also influence the way you view your physical appearance. If you have friends who are good-looking or have a great fashion sense,it
can feel like you are living in their shadow. For children of the digital age, social media makes this problem even worse.Your friends may post a
never-ending series of photos online to show off their beautiful dresses or strong bodies, and it becomes easier for you to compare yourself to them. This has proved to have a negative effect on what you think of
your physical appearance.
Deep thinking(para.3)
Why does the author say social media makes this worse?
Your friends may post a never-ending series of photos online to show off their beautiful dresses or strong bodies, and it becomes easier for you to compare yourself to them.
Sometimes they beautify their photos by using some apps.
Another tip is to remind yourself thatyou are unique.Keep in mind that your
family and friends love you just the way you are.Talk about your feelings with
someone you trust.Hearing how much theyvalue you can help you feel comfortable in your own skin.Focusing on your strengths also helps you build your confidence. Everyone has their own talents-you may be good at painting or playing the piano, so take pride in things you do well instead of worrying about things you cannot
change.
Finally,it is a good idea to try to direct your attention away from negative thoughts. To achieve this, you should do something you enjoy.Read a book you like,or take part in a social activity, like playing a ball game with your friends. These things can help you take your mind off matters that worryyou and make you feel good about yourself.
These external influences are always present, but there are certainly ways to deal
with them.First of all,be careful not to follow popular beauty standards blindly.
They are out of reach for 99%of us,so it is better to just forget about them.
Solutions (Paras.4-6)
. Stop following popular beauty standards blindly.
Remind yourself that you are unique.
Keep in mind that your family and friends love
you just the way you are.
☆ Focus on your strengths.
Direct your attention from negative thoughts.

Conclusion (Para.7)
Like a book, your contents are much more important than your cover.(Para.7)
True beauty lies in our inner beauty.(Para.1) What do you think of the conclusion?
The conclusion is inspiring, and it echoes(呼应) the title and the first paragraph.
"Don't judge a book by its cover"is an English saying. What are some Chinese sayings about one's physical appearance?Choose one that you agree with and explain why.
I know of a few Chinese sayings about one's appearance, for
example, “人靠衣装马靠鞍”and “人不可貌相,海水不 可斗量” .The one that I agree with most is “人不可貌相,
海水不可斗量” .If we judge by appearances,we may make
mistakes. After all, appearance is only superficial and one's inner
self is what matters more.
Some suggestions:
OCaring too much about what other people think of how you look doesn't make them like you more.
OYou realize that being trendy only proves you're great at being a follower.Having a personal style proves you're an individual.
OBeing yourself feels so much better than looking"Perfect".
