A recent study in a British medical magazine shows that many kinds of foods we enjoy, such as chips, cookies, and ice cream, are all ultra-processed (超加工的). What are ultra-processed foods (UPFs)? In short, we can’t re-create them in our kitchen. They are usually made in factories. They have long lists of additives (添加剂)—some we may never have heard of.

Eating too many UPFs will lead to poor diet and increase the risks of serious illness. For example, UPFs lovers are more likely to get heart disease and certain cancers.
Governments are taking action right now. Some governments put taxes (税) on sugary drinks to make them more expensive, so fewer people will buy them. This idea can be used on the UPFs as well. More than 50 years ago, a famous British band called the Beatles split up (解散). They haven’t recorded any must together since then, but artificial intelligence (AI) has helped to create one last Beatles song. This is just one of the ways that AI is changing the world and how we live. As technology improves, the use of AI is spreading.
The invention of AI
In the 20th century, scientists began to wonder if computers could think like us. In 1950, the British expert Alan Turing created the “Turing test” to see whether a computer is intelligent. During this test, a human tester puts questions to a person and a computer at the same time. Both answer the questions, and the tester must decide which answers came from the human. If the tester can’t tell the two apart, the computer is intelligent.
Many people believe AIs that can write, like the ChatGPT system, have already passed this test.
▲
AI is part of everyday life. It can study lots of information and from that work out what is likely to happen next. Self-driving cars, for example, use AI to make decisions. In hospitals, AI can study information about thousands of people to work out what might be wrong with a patient from their test results. Tools like ChatGPT can write computer code, stories and even solve maths problems.
The future of AI
Some people worry about how AI might influence their jobs. If computers can create pictures, music and text, could artists, musicians and writers one day be replaced? Many people also fear that AI could be used to invent and spread lies. Even those who work in AI say there should be rules about how it is used. However, AI can spark (激发) creativity too. AI is very good at suggesting drugs to treat diseases, and can even invent new medicines. It can help us fight weather change by finding clever ways to reduce our energy use. One day it might even find a way to solve our energy needs completely.
36. In Paragraph 1, how does the writer lead into the topic ________.
A. by telling stories B. by asking questions
C. by giving examples D. by listing numbers
37. Why did Alan make the “Turing test”?
A. to check if computers could think like humans.
B. to show humans are more intelligent than computers.
C. to get two answers to the questions at the same time.
D. to find out the differences between humans and computers.
38. Which of the following can be put into ▲ ?
A. The safety of AI B. The use of AI
C. The problems of AI D. The predictions of AI
39. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To tell the importance of AI. B. To share the good points of AI.
C. To explain the difficulties of AI. D. To introduce the information of AI.

The study shows that people may strongly crave such food. We usually can’t stop eating it, or we may feel sad. But why do UPFs make us want to keep eating them all the time? It is said that 14 percent of adults and 12 percent of children crazily love UPFs. However, they cause problems to people’s health around the world.
Besides, in order to let people know the dangers of UPFs, these kinds companies are required to print out the additives on their products. Finally, governments are asking companies to use less unhealthy additives in UPFs so that the food can be made healthier.

A. To tell the importance of AI. B. To share the good points of AI.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文:
Studies have found that music can greatly influence how we feel. I can definitely relate to this.
When I feel down or stressed from schoolwork, I often turn to music for comfort. My favorite genres are pop and rock music; they have a way of energizing me and lifting my spirits. Before listening to music, I might feel tired or worried, especially after a long day of classes. Sometimes, I’m even lonely or discouraged. But after putting on my headphones and losing myself in the rhythm and melodies, I feel a significant change. Music has the power to calm me down when I’m over-excited or help me cheer up when I’m sad.
In conclusion, music is more than just sounds; it’s a companion that guides my emotions. Whether I need to relax, get motivated, or simply have fun, different kinds of music are there to help me through it all. It’s a universal language that speaks to our hearts.
